SHC 462 Pg. 3 This Sunday’s Hymns Gathering Hymn ~ Rain Down Rain down, rain down, rain down your love on your people. Rain down, rain down, rain down your love, God of life.

Faithful and true is the word of our God. All of God’s works are so worthy of trust. God’s mercy falls on the just and the right; full of God’s love is the earth.

Rain down, rain down, rain down your love on your people. Rain down, rain down rain down your love, God of life.

Closing Hymn ~ Shall We Gather at the River

Shall we gather at the river, where bright angel feet have trod; With its crystal tide forever Flowing by the throne of God?

Yes, we'll gather at the river, the beautiful, the beautiful river; Gather with the at the river. That flows by the throne of God.

November is dedicated as the month to the Holy Souls is Purga- tory. The Church commemorates all her faithful children who have departed from this life, but have not yet attained the joys of heaven. St. Paul warns us that we must not be ignorant concern- ing the dead, nor sorrowful, "even as others who have no hope ... For the Lord Himself shall come down from heaven ... and the dead who are in Christ shall rise.”

The Church has always taught us to pray for those who have gone into eternity. Even in the Old Testament prayers and alms were offered for the souls of the dead by those who thought "well and religiously concerning the resurrection." It was be- lieved that "they who had fallen asleep with godliness had great grace laid up for them" and that "it is therefore a holy and whole- some thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins." We know that a defiled soul cannot enter into heav- en.
