CONTAINER LIST Series I: MEC Presidents, 1970-2009 Series Description: This series largely consists of newspaper articles and profiles on the presidents and the acting presidents of CUNY Medgar Evers College from 1970 to 2009. It also consists of the Presidential Search Progress Reports in which the College actively sought a new president beginning in 2009. The folder entitled “MEC Presidents 1970-2009” consists of a 5-page profile, including pictures, on all the presidents and acting presidents of CUNY Medgar Evers College. Box Folder Title 1 1 MEC Presidents 1970-2009 Subseries A: President Dr. Richard Trent, 1970-1982 This subseries consists of correspondences regarding the inauguration of the first President of CUNY Medgar Evers College, Dr. Richard Trent, and the accreditation of CUNY Medgar Evers College as a 4- year institution by the Commission on Higher Education Middle States Association of Colleges and Universities. The folder entitled “Trent, Richard- President.” contains the programs and pamphlets for the inauguration of the first President of CUNY Medgar Evers College, Dr. Richard Trent, on May 25, 1972. The folder entitled “Richard Trent. President.” contains the correspondence between the Commission of Higher Education and Dr. Richard Trent regarding the accreditation of CUNY Medgar Evers College as a 4-year institution. It also includes a journal article from New Brooklyn highlighting Dr. Richard Trent’s leadership at the College and its success serving the Central Brooklyn community. The folder entitled “Dr. Richard Trent.” contains the admissions brochure to CUNY Medgar Evers College as well as the mission statement for faculty and staff of the College. It also includes a newspaper article from the Sunday New York Times (1974) about the student body the College hopes to recruit. President. 1988 Subseries E: Dr. S. Allen Counter, PhD., MEC Presidential Candidate, 1988 The folder entitled “Allen Counter, S PH.D. MEC Presidential Candidate” contains Dr. Counter’s curriculum vitae and list of references as Presidential Candidate. It also consists of newspaper articles, one naming Dr. S. (Inauguration) contains programs celebrating the inauguration of Dr. Edison O. Jackson as President of CUNY Medgar Evers College. The folder entitled “President Jackson, Edison O. (Mixed Materials)” contains President Jackson’s curriculum vitae, a program for the celebration of the inauguration of President Jackson as well as newspaper articles documenting his appointment. The folder entitled “Jackson, Edison O. Dr” consists of a photo of Dr. Edison O Jackson. The folder entitled “Jackson, E. O. Dr.” contains the 2009 calendar “Living and Ancestral Legends” featuring Dr. Edison O Jackson. The folder entitled “President E. O. Jackson Cover Story. 2007” contains the magazine The Positive Community in which Dr. Edison O Jackson is featured as the cover story. The folder entitled “Honor Programs for Dr. E.O. Jackson President” contains newspaper articles documenting the naming of Dr. Edison O. Pollard Series II: Guidelines, Policies, and Plans Series Description: The folders in this series primarily consist of plans outlining, by the Office of the President, a hierarchy of the College and roles faculty and staff will play. It also includes guidelines for promoting “educational excellence” and diversity while curbing racism and policies against sexual harassment. Additionally, this series includes a flyer for CUNY Medgar Evers College’s involvement in the Central Brooklyn community and a plan for reducing the projected budget shortfall for the 1996/1997 academic year. Series IV: Student Demonstrations and Protests Series Description: This series consists of memorandum and press releases regarding student demonstrations and protests that occurred at CUNY Medgar Evers. The folder entitled “Protest Against Apartheid (Press Release)” consists of a press statement by President Dr. Jay Carrington Chunn, II regarding the protests in South Africa against apartheid. The folder entitled “MEC Student & Demonstrations. 1989.” consists of a memorandum regarding the student demonstrations that occurred on May 1, 1989 as a result of the threat of budget reductions and a tuition increase. The folder entitled “President’s Letter to Suspend SGA. 2000.” consists of a printed e-mail from President Edison O. Jackson to the CUNY Medgar Evers College Community regarding the suspension of the operation of the 1999/2000 Student Government Association due to their inability to work as a cohesive team. Series V: Evaluations Series Description: The folders in this series consist primarily of correspondences and evaluations regarding the academic and fiscal performance as well as accreditation status for CUNY Medgar Evers. The folder entitled “Presidential Evaluation Team Visit to Medgar Evers College. 1978” consists of the schedule of events for the Presidential Evaluation Team. The folder entitled “(MEC) Presidential Transition and Evaluation Team consists of the minutes from the March 22, 1984 meeting on Academic Standards and Academic Expectations of Medgar Evers College. It also consists of a student/alumni questionnaire regarding perceived academic standards and academic expectations. The folder entitled “MEC Senior College Status. 1984” consists of various correspondences such as memorandum encouraging students and faculty to show their support for restoring CUNY Medgar Evers College status to that of “senior status.” The folder entitled “Letter to Director- Division of Academic Program Review.1986.” contains a letter to Mr. Kevin P. Reilly, Director of the Division of Academic Program Review, from President Jay Carrington Chunn, II regarding the State Education Department Team’s site visit to the College. The folder entitled “Evaluation Team. 1988.” consists of a memorandum notifying the CUNY Medgar Evers campus about an evaluation being conducted by Alexander and Associates Inc.
