The study adopted the descriptive analytical method in two stages; the first is to analyze the websites according to Dublin Core standard in a manual way while the second stage is to use the Metachecker.net program as one of the famous software on the Internet that contains all the Metadata Tags for websites analysis, which enables the analysis of Metadata. -

Considering a Future in Syria and the Protection of the Right to Culture
THE JOHN MARSHALL REVIEW OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW BEYOND THE DESTRUCTION OF SYRIA: CONSIDERING A FUTURE IN SYRIA AND THE PROTECTION OF THE RIGHT TO CULTURE SARAH DÁVILA-RUHAAK ABSTRACT Although the right to culture has been widely recognized under international human rights, its reach and practical application has been limited in cultural preservation efforts. Individuals and communities that attempt to be part of the decision-making process in preservation efforts often face barriers to access in that process. The need to re-conceptualize the right to culture is vital for its protection and preservation. This article proposes that the right to self-determination must be utilized as a core fundamental principle that enables a disenfranchised individual or community to have ownership in preservation efforts and decide how to shape their identity. It further illustrates how incorporating the “ownership” element of the right to self- determination will strengthen the application of the right to culture in preservation efforts. The article utilizes the destruction of Syrian cultural heritage to discuss the need for further protections under international human rights law. Because Syrian cultural heritage is in peril, it is imperative that the right to culture of Syrians is strengthened for the survival of their culture and identity. Syrian cultural heritage must be preserved by the Syrians and for the Syrians, thus allowing them to directly shape who they are as a people. HERMES Development of a Higher Education and Research Area Between Europe and the Middle East
HERMES Development of a Higher Education and Research Area between Europe and the Middle East The principle objective of HERMES project is to develop scientific mobility/exchanges of students at all levels and staff between the Higher Education institutions of Europe and the Higher Education institutions of the Middle East. This will lead to a “strong sustainable contribution” to the creation of a European– Mediterranean area of High- er Education and research. A total of 180 mobility is expected to be performed between the twenty universities of the HERMES consor- tium: 144 mobility from the Middle East to Europe and 36 Mobility from Europe to the Middle East. The dura- tion of the project is 4 years. The program has begun in July 2013 and it will end in June 2017. The Hermes program is funded by EU. Read Full License Page 1/24 Abstract Introduction: The huge workload on doctors especially residents, who are the main healthcare providers in public hospitals, in addition to the vanishing incomes and lack of personal safety during the decade-long Syrian crisis, led to further hurdles for the focus on research. Postgraduate students in the medical and paramedical elds must conduct original research projects as part of their graduation requirements. However, that does not reect on the research publications coming from Syria. Methods: A nation-wide cross-sectional study targeting medical, dental, and pharmacy postgraduate students who are at the phase of planning for their required projects. The questionnaire aimed to capture their attitudes towards research, perceived barriers, and previous research experiences. Results: The sample consisted of 429 residents representing about 21.5% of the target population. Nearly all the participants had positive opinion towards the important role of medical research and the signicance of their participation. Agreement was also clear regarding perceived barriers including the lack of adequate training, and research facility. -

Dr. Radwan Ziadeh Radwan Ziadeh is a Visiting Scholar at The Institute for Middle East Studies (IMES) at Elliot School of International Affairs at George Washington University. He was most recently a Prins Global Fellow at Hagop Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies at New York University and Visiting Scholar at The Center for Contemporary Arab Studies (CCAS) at Georgetown University. Before that he was Reagan–Fascell Fellow at National Endowment for Democracy (NED) at Washington D,C and Visiting Scholar at the Center for the Study of Human Rights at Columbia University in New York City, he was also a Visiting Fellow at Chatham House (The Royal Institute of International Affairs) in London and a visiting scholar at Carr Center for Human Rights at Harvard University (2008–2009). In 2007–2008 he was a Senior Fellow at United States Institute of Peace (USIP) in Washington, D.C. He is the founder and director of the Damascus Center for Human Rights Studies in Syria (afiliated to the International Federation for Human Rights - FIDH) and co-founder and executive director of the Syrian Center for Political and Strategic Studies in Washington, D.C. He is the managing editor of the Transitional Justice in the Arab World Project. Before that, Ziadeh was editor-in-chief of Tyarat magazine in 2001–2002 and secretary of the Syrian Organization for Transparency. He was a researcher with the UNDP’s "Syria 2025" project and was named best political scientist researcher in the Arab world by Jordan’s Abdulhameed Shoman Foundation in 2004; in 2009 he was awarded the Middle East Studies Association (MESA) Academic Freedom award in Boston; and in 2010 he was awarded the Democracy Courage Tributes award on behave of the Human Rights movement in Syria by the World Movement for Democracy at Jakarta- Indonesia. -
