A boring winner by Dave Solomon Does it get boring to continuously win? Perhaps not for some. The old New York Yankees, the Boston Celtics of the 1960's, the Green Bay Packers, always won year after year. Bringing it down to the collegiate level, we haw our UCLA record breaking basketball team, or the Oklahoma or Nebraska gridders. One loss for the two latter teams almost automatically drops them from possible contention as the national champion. For UCLA, one loss is bordering on disaster. All these teams have one thing in common - they are the best in their profession, playing against the best there is to offer. At UConn. the vanity truck team has won 40 consecutive indoor meets, humiliated their Conference rivals at last week's Yankee Conference Championships, and head up to the New F.ngland indoor track Championship this weekend as one of three pre-meet favorites. Is Success Boring.' Is this success boring to them? If it isn't, it should be. There never seems to be much of a challenge for the indoor track team. The YanCon Championships had to be the most anti-climatic event ever to take place in the Conference. When a coach (head track coach Bob Kennedy) sa\ s that "there's no way we shouldn't win the title," VOU know that his team clearly outclasses the field. Unlike the UCLA's and Nebraskan's, who compete and defeat the best the collegiate world has to offer, the UConn track team has TAKE THE PUCK AND RUN: UConn right winger, Howie Neckowitz (6) checks a Holy Cross miles to go to reach such greatness on the national scale. It would be foolish for UConn to drop all the teams it already schedules, but there has to come a point where a Bill Cantin (Husky premier long distance runner) must realize that in order to win, he Icemen drop below .500 must better anything that he has previously done.
