As your Wars of the Roses chairs, Teo Lamiot and I have been working hard with our crisis director, Sofia Filippa, and SMUNC Secretariat members to make this conference the best yet. If you have attended SMUNC before, I promise that this year will be even more full of surprise and intrigue than your last conference; if you are a newcomer, let me warn you of how intensely fun and challenging this conference will assuredly be. Regardless of how you arrive, you will all leave better delegates and hopefully with a reinvigorated love for Model UN. My own love for Model United Nations began when I co-chaired a committee for SMUNC (The Arab Spring), which was one of my very first experiences as a member of the Society for International Affairs at Stanford (the umbrella organization for the MUN team), and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Later that year, I joined the intercollegiate Model United Nations team.

  • Family Lines from Companions of the Conqueror
Companions of the Conqueror and the Conqueror 1 Those Companions of William the Conqueror From Whom Ralph Edward Griswold and Madge Elaine Turner Are Descended and Their Descents from The Conqueror Himself 18 May 2002 Note: This is a working document. The lines were copied quickly out of the Griswold-Turner data base and have not yet been retraced. They have cer- tainly not been proved by the accepted sources. This is a massive project that is done in pieces, and when one piece is done it is necessary to put it aside for a while before gaining the energy and enthusiasm to continue. It will be a working document for some time to come. This document also does not contain all the descents through the Turner or Newton Lines 2 Many men (women are not mentioned) accompanied William the Conqueror on his invasion of England. Many men and women have claimed to be descended from one or more of the= Only a few of these persons are documented; they were the leaders and colleagues of William of Normandy who were of sufficient note to have been recorded. Various sources for the names of “companions” (those who were immediate associates and were rewarded with land and responsibility in England) exist. Not all of them have been consulted for this document. New material is in preparation by reputable scholars that will aid researchers in this task. For the present we have used a list from J. R. Planché. The Conqueror and His Companions. Somerset Herald. London: Tinsley Brothers, 1874.. The persons listed here are not the complete list but constitute a subset from which either Ralph Edward Griswold or Madge Elaine Turner (or both) are descended).

  • The Medieval Mortimer Family an Outline Lineage
Ian Mortimer The Medieval Mortimer Family An outline lineage This document lays out the basic genealogies of the various medieval families that bore the Anglo- Norman name ‘de Mortemer’ or its Latin equivalent, ‘de Mortuo Mari’ and the later anglicised variations, such as ‘Mortimer’ and ‘Mortymer’. The prime purpose is to distinguish between the major landowners who appear in the pre-1500 records. It is not an attempt to identify all the significant individuals called ‘Mortimer’; still less is it an attempt to show speculatively how they all might be related. Although it is tempting to say that the medieval Mortimer families all descend from Roger fitz Ralph, lord of Mortemer-sur-Eaulne, who was known after 1054 as Roger de Mortemer, the evidence is not strong enough to prove the matter one way or another. Thus they are each dealt with separately. The arrangement is as follows. The oldest family is dealt with first, in part one, this being the Mortimers of Wigmore. Their genealogy is followed by that of each cadet family, arranged in order of the date at which it branched off from the main line. Next, in part two, the Mortimers of Attleborough appear, with their cadet families, again in order. The Mortimers of Wilsthorpe and their probable branches are dealt with in part three. Some notes on the Mortimers of Coedmore form part four, and on the obscure Mortimer families of Cliffe, Kent, and Cuckfield, Sussex, parts five and six. Finally, there is an appendix dealing with the origin of the family in Scotland. 1a.
