This sale begins with rare Faiveley Musigny, Rousseau Clos de Beze, and Rouget Cros Parantoux—and it only gets better from there. There’s rare 37 year old Brora, from one of Scotland’s shuttered distilleries. There’s a stunning collection of Liger Belair and Rousseau, all from a member of the wine trade and bought on release and stored professionally. There’s gorgeous and pristine 1999 DRC La Tache—a wine you can’t have enough of. Lot 430 brings one of the most amazing collections in this sale, from a friend of our very own Fritz Hatton (read his cellar intro for a jealousy-inducing reminiscence of din- ing with the consignor). The mature bottles of Dujac and eye-popping Jayer are some- thing to behold. Keep turning the pages for Roumier and Ponsot, too. Amazing wines from top vintages in great condition. What more can you ask for? Lot 595 begins a collection with absolutely perfect provenance. The Lafite, as well as the Yquem and other wines in this collection were recently Chateau direct. For those that missed out in our 2019 Chateau-direct sale, this is a great opportunity! Lastly I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out Pioneers V. Most of our big changes take some getting used to. For example the room I am writing this introduction in was designed in 1940 to commemorate our one hundred year anniversary of operation. We call it The Last Room because it was the last room added onto the restaurant. Since then many rooms have come and gone without mention, but this name has remained. Many people have remained with our restaurant as well. We have a waiter who has been with us over fifty years. A couple of our chefs have been with us over forty years. Many of our menu items are over a hundred years old. And it is not unreasonable to believe that a handful of the wines we house today were poured in our dining rooms over a hundred and fifty years ago. At Antoine’s we are motivated by our tradition. Our traditional dishes became traditional because they were radical when they first appeared. We have wines that appeared in our books and on our tables a hundred and fifty years ago, and, hopefully, we always offer wines that have appeared just a couple weeks ago. The tradition of wine drinking is about the discovery of old and new memories.
