Dignity Health – Sacramento County Mercy Hospital of Folsom Mercy San Juan Medical Center Mercy General Hospital Methodist Hospital of Sacramento 2019 Community Health Needs Assessment – Main Report Acknowledgements We are deeply grateful to all those who contributed to this community health needs assessment. Many dedicated healthcare practitioners, community health experts, and members of social-service organizations working with the most vulnerable members of the Sacramento County community gave their expertise and insights to help guide and inform the findings of this assessment. Further, many community residents volunteered their time to provide valuable information as well. We also appreciate the collaborative spirit of the consultants at Harder+Company and their willingness to share the information they gathered while conducting a health assessment in the Sacramento area for Kaiser Permanente. Last, we especially acknowledge the sponsors of this assessment, Dignity Health, Sutter Health, and UC Davis Medical Center, who, using the results of these CHNAs, continuously work to improve the health of the communities they serve. To everyone who supported this important work, we extend our deepest, heartfelt gratitude. Community Health Insights (www.communityhealthinsights.com) conducted the health assessment. Community Health Insights is a Sacramento-based research-oriented consulting firm dedicated to improving the health and well-being of communities across Northern California. This joint report was authored by: Dale Ainsworth, PhD, MSOD, Managing Partner of Community Health Insights and Assistant Professor of Health Science at California State University, Sacramento Heather Diaz, DrPH, MPH, Managing Partner of Community Health Insights and Professor of Health Science at California State University, Sacramento Mathew C.

    NATARAJAN V. DIGNITY HEALTH S259364

IN THE SUPREME COURT OF CALIFORNIA SUNDAR NATARAJAN, Plaintiff and Appellant, v. DIGNITY HEALTH, Defendant and Respondent. S259364 Third Appellate District C085906 San Joaquin County Superior Court STK-CV-UWM-2016-4821 August 12, 2021 Justice Kruger authored the opinion of the Court, in which Chief Justice Cantil-Sakauye and Justices Corrigan, Liu, Cuéllar, Groban, and Jenkins concurred. NATARAJAN v. DIGNITY HEALTH S259364 Opinion of the Court by Kruger, J. Under California’s peer review statute, a hospital must afford a physician a fair hearing before revoking the physician’s staff privileges. (Bus. & Prof. Code, § 809 et seq.) A panel of the physician’s peers generally serves as the trier of fact at these proceedings. Proceedings before a peer review panel may be conducted by a hearing officer who makes evidentiary and procedural rulings, but who may not vote on the merits. To ensure impartiality, the statute provides that neither panel members nor hearing officers may gain a “direct financial benefit from the outcome.” (Bus. & Prof. Code, § 809.2, subds. (a) & (b).) The question in this case is whether a person hired by a hospital to serve as a hearing officer may be disqualified for financial bias under Business and Professions Code section 809.2, subdivision (b), on grounds that the officer has an incentive to favor the hospital in order to increase the chances of receiving future appointments. The Court of Appeal in this case answered no. We reach a different conclusion. While a hearing officer’s interest in future employment is not automatically disqualifying, neither is it categorically beyond the reach of the statute.

CHI Health Mercy Corning 603 Rosary Drive Corning, IA 50841 Visit us at: 641.322.3121 http://www.chihealth.com/ http://www.chihealth.com/ CHI Health is a regional health network with a unified mission: nurturing the healing ministry of the Church while creating healthier communities. Headquartered in Omaha, the organization consists of 15 hospitals, two stand- alone behavioral health facilities and more than 150 employed physician practice locations in Nebraska and southwest Iowa. CHI Health Mercy Corning currently has over 160 full time, part time and PRN Employees. CHI Health Mercy Corning started as Rosary Hospital’s when the origin began in 1942 when a bequest from the Roach Brothers Estate went to Father Powers of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Corning, Iowa. Fr. Powers had the vision to establish a hospital to benefit the entire community. Fr. Powers approached the Felician Sisters in Chicago to request qualified sisters to staff and operate the hospital upon its completion. With the bequest and additional community support, the $600,000, forty-two bed facility opened its doors debt free in May of 1951. The first staff consisted of eight sisters, a lay staff of forty-two full and part time employees, and a medical staff consisting of eight physicians. Governance of the hospital has been changed five times in the hospital's many years of operation. The Felician Sisters relinquished support to the Des Moines Diocese in 1985. Mercy Health Systems of the Midlands became the owners in August of 1989. The Alegent Health partnership formed in 1996 involved the Mercy Midlands Health System and the Immanual Lutheran System.

Located at 7500 Hospital Drive, the hospital became a member of Dignity Health in 1993, and today has 1,150 employees, 162 licensed acute care beds, and 29 emergency department beds. Methodist Hospital also operates Bruceville Terrace, a 171-bed, sub-acute skilled nursing long-term care facility that provides for the elderly, as well as those requiring extended recoveries. Communities in south Sacramento also suffer from a shortage in community providers and capacity that limits access to appropriate care. As a result, Methodist Hospital fills a major gap in needed safety net services. Hospital utilization trends show that the numbers of individuals turning to the emergency department for basic primary care needs that cannot be met elsewhere continue to rise at alarming rates.
