Friday, 10 October 2019, was the opening of the 30th Celebration with the attendance of a broad sector of people to witness the growth and valuable contribution of the Market Photo Workshop.

In celebration of The Market Photo Workshop 30th Anniversary on 10 October 2019, a new initiative – a website PHOTOFORM AFRICA (www.photoformafrica.com) was launched to host and archive work of Alumni Students.

PHOTOFORM AFRICA is a digital visual culture narrative(s) space developed by the Market Photo Workshop as an online platform to showcase and archive photographic work produced by alumni of the Market Photo Workshop. The motivations for this project originated out of conversations around increasing public interest in work being produced at the Market Photo Workshop by students that may not always get a platform to be viewed publicly. Through PHOTOFORM AFRICA, alumni and current students will be able to have individual profiles set up for their individual photography practice and submit photo stories for publishing on this site to build a collective archive of Market 30 years of Photo Workshop alumni work.

The website is currently hosting 2018 Alumni’ Market Photo work with time you will see work dating back from 1989. Market Photo Workshop student and Alumnus were advice to submit work by Workshop filling in the contact sheet on the website (www. - Candice Jansen photoformafrica.com).

We have had the pleasure of hosting her briefly at the Windybrow Arts Celebrates Centre and learning so much about her country from her, the biggest being the similarities we shared, which was an interesting discovery during Zambian her stay in South Africa.

Mandla Mlangeni is the current Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz 2019. He is also a 2019 Fellow at UWC’s Centre for Humanities Research.

The production is an homage to his humor, political values and storytelling abilities, all of which has touched the lives of everyone who has read his works.

Van Wyk grew up in the coloured suburb of Riverlea, south of Johannesburg, a community he was later to bring lovingly to life in Shirley, Goodness and Mercy (2004) and Eggs to Lay, Chickens to Hatch (2010). He adapted Nelson Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom into a book for young readers and wrote a series of short biographies of liberation struggle figures for schoolchildren.
