On the day of the school festival, KO-TANG paid a secret visit to the school. After spying on the students' performance, he made a surprise guest appearance at the closing ceremony where he demonstrated some amazing Michael Jackson dance moves. It was a stirring finale that moved some students to tears. In our previous studies, we revealed that a Japanese Pop diva, Namie Amuro started to sing approximately 70-90 ms after the accompaniment for the initial notes of phrases. We then conducted perceptual experiments, using blass- like tone played the melody instead of Amuro’s singing. The results of the experiments showed that the 70-ms de- layed singing sounded “unnatural” and “not groovy”. This suggested that we have high tolerance for the delayed singing in the case that a singer sings words than in the case an instrument plays a melody. In the present study, we conducted perceptual experiments using synthesized word singing and scant singing stimuli, as well as human word singing and scat singing stimuli. The results showed that whether words are sung or not is crucial for the tolerance for the delayed singing. The scat singing stimuli showed consistent results to the case where a brass-like tone played the melody. The way in which individuals are exposed to different genres and types of music helps illustrate the extent to which globalization has had an impact on the world. Before the invention of the internet, music was only available for purchase to consumers who went to record stores and physically purchased goods. Now, countless unique songs and genres are readily available with just a single search. Due to how easily consumers can access new music, digital distribution has completely overtaken the profit from selling physical copies of albums. In 2006, record labels still made $9.4 billion from CD sales in the United States, despite the fact that digital distribution entities, such as Napster and iTunes, provided digital copies of the same songs.

Responding to the challenge of cross-cultural encounters Introduction Much has been said about the Irish "no" vote and the constitutional challenge for Europe. New thinking would seem to be scarce or, worse still, of a problematic nature. This tends to confirm impressions which resulted in the "no" vote. It is most unfortunate that the main formal response of Europe has been the request to the Irish to "vote again" -- totally disrespectful of democratic process. This sets a curious precedent in that it occurred within the same time period as the call for a second vote by Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe. Is the future of democracy to be defined in terms of a "Mugabe-model"? When will it then be inappropriate to call for a "second vote" -- if many disapprove of the results of the first? Why should the Irish -- as bearers of a democratic message -- be required to solve a problem that European officialdom repeatedly refuses to acknowledge? Where are the other options articulated by Europe, as argued by Timothy Garton Ash (Instead of bullying the Irish, Europe should be working on plan D - and E, The Guardian, 19 June 2008).

    “Hope” Press Release HOPE: THE TREE OF LIFE: Music producers, musicians, video artist, and the children come together to offer vision, hope, and new life. In collaboration between Syn’s Nick Wood and Grammy-nominated musician Julian Lennon, a group of musicians and music producers have come together to raise money for the ongoing recovery effort after the earthquake and resulting tsunami that hit northern Japan on March 11, 2011. Wood, a longtime resident of Japan, felt a need to contribute to the relief effort and tapped his network to co-produce this piece of music with Grammy Award-winning producer, John Jones. Wood, Lennon, and Japan’s top-selling record producer, Tetsuya Komuro, perform the piece called “Hope.” “Hope” pays homage to one pine tree left standing in Rikuzentakata, a city destroyed by the tsunami. Rikuzentakata was once home to over 70,000 trees, but after the quake, only one was left standing. This tree has symbolized hope, strength, and resilience to the people of Rikuzentakata. “Hope” speaks to, and for, the people who are experiencing grief and coping with destruction in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami. It additionally lauds the people who have worked to rebuild and resume life after the disaster. Total damages from the quake and tsunami are estimated to be about US$309 billion. “Hope” by Nick Wood feat.
