    (Translated Version) For information on LanDAC TTSC Paper No. 02/2015 8 January 2015 Lantau Development Advisory Committee Traffic and Transport Subcommittee Suggestion to Open the SkyPier for Other Purposes PURPOSE Among the comments and suggestions received by the Lantau Development Advisory Committee, there are suggestions to open the SkyPier as a cross-boundary ferry pier. This paper elaborates the Government’s opinions on the suggested opening of the SkyPier as public cross-boundary pier. OPERATION OF THE SKYPIER 2. Located in the Restricted Area of the Hong Kong International Airport (“HKIA”), the SkyPier is owned and managed by the Airport Authority Hong Kong (“AAHK”). It is constructed primarily for providing convenient and speedy ferry services for air-to-sea/sea-to-air transit passengers travelling between Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta (“PRD”) area.1 Passengers from the PRD area (including Macao) who take flights at the HKIA can first complete the immigration procedures2 at their home places and take the ferries to the SkyPier. Upon arrival, they can take the automated people mover and enter the airport control area for boarding, without having to complete the immigration procedures in Hong Kong. As for transit passengers heading for the PRD area upon arrival at the HKIA, they only need to purchase ferry tickets at the transfer area at Terminal 1, have their tickets scanned at the automated 1 The SkyPier provides ferry services connecting 8 ports in the PRD area, namely: Shekou and Fuyong in Shenzhen, Maritime Ferry Terminal and Taipa in Macao, Humen in Dongguan, Nansha in Guangzhou, Zhongshan and Jiuzhou in Zhuhai.

Abstract: As a coastal trading city in China, Shantou has complex terrain and changeable sea conditions in its coastal waters. In order to better protect the coastal engineering and social property along the coast, based on the numerical simulation method, this paper constructed a detailed hydrodynamic model of the Shantou sea area, and the measured tide elevation and tidal current were used to verify the accuracy of the model. Based on the simulation results, the tide elevation and current in the study area were analyzed, including the flood and ebb tides of astronomical spring tide, the flood and ebb tides of astronomical neap tide, the high tide, and the low tide. In order to find the main tidal constituent types in this sea, the influence of different tidal constituents on tide elevation and tidal current in the study area was analyzed. At the same time, the storm surge model of the study area was constructed, and the flow field under Typhoon “Mangkhut” in the study area was simulated by using the real recorded data.

    Tianjin Travel Guide Travel in Tianjin Tianjin (tiān jīn 天津), referred to as "Jin (jīn 津)" for short, is one of the four municipalities directly under the Central Government of China. It is 130 kilometers southeast of Beijing (běi jīng 北京), serving as Beijing's gateway to the Bohai Sea (bó hǎi 渤海). It covers an area of 11,300 square kilometers and there are 13 districts and five counties under its jurisdiction. The total population is 9.52 million. People from urban Tianjin speak Tianjin dialect, which comes under the mandarin subdivision of spoken Chinese. Not only is Tianjin an international harbor and economic center in the north of China, but it is also well-known for its profound historical and cultural heritage. History People started to settle in Tianjin in the Song Dynasty (sòng dài 宋代). By the 15th century it had become a garrison town enclosed by walls. It became a city centered on trade with docks and land transportation and important coastal defenses during the Ming (míng dài 明代) and Qing (qīng dài 清代) dynasties. After the end of the Second Opium War in 1860, Tianjin became a trading port and nine countries, one after the other, established concessions in the city. Historical changes in past 600 years have made Tianjin an unique city with a mixture of ancient and modem in both Chinese and Western styles. After China implemented its reforms and open policies, Tianjin became one of the first coastal cities to open to the outside world. Since then it has developed rapidly and become a bright pearl by the Bohai Sea.

Abstract Chinese cities have experienced a period of rapid urban expansion since the socialist market economic was approved in 1993. The urbanization level increased from 28% in 1993 to 40% in year 2003. Contact: [email protected] Running head: WOMEN’S DEVELOPMENT IN GUANGDONG 1 Women’s Development in Guangdong: Unequal Opportunities and Limited Development in a Market Economy Yinghua Yue The City College of New York In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts in Sociology Fall 2012 WOMEN’ S DEVELOPMENT IN GUANGDONG 2 ABSTRACT In the context of China’s three-decade market-oriented economic reform, in which economic development has long been prioritized, women’s development, as one of the social undertakings peripheral to economic development, has relatively lagged behind. This research is an attempt to unfold the current situation of women’s development within such context by studying the case of Guangdong -- the province as forerunner of China’s economic reform and opening-up -- drawing on current primary resources. First, this study reveals mixed results for women’s development in Guangdong: achievements have been made in education, employment and political participation in terms of “rates” and “numbers,” and small “breakthroughs” have taken place in legislation and women’s awareness of their equal rights and interests; however, limitations and challenges, like disparities between different women groups in addition to gender disparity, continue to exist.
