Occurrence of synplutonic dykes from Perhentian Kecil Island, Besut, Terengganu AzMAN ABDUL GHANI Geology Department University of Malaya 50603 Kuala Lumpur Abstract: This short note reports field and microscopic observations of the synplutonic dykes from the Perhentian Kecil syenite. The observations suggest that the dykes were intruded when the host magma was partially crystallised. DI IBU KOTA, hujan renyai tidak menghalang umat Islam berarak dari Dataran Merdeka ke Pusat Islam, di sini. Sambutan tahun ini yang bertemakan `Kesejahteraan Negara Tanggungjawab Kita', dirasmikan Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad, di Pusat Islam. Turut hadir Menteri Pendidikan, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak dan Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri, Datuk Dr Abdul Hamid Othman. Terdahulu, perarakan yang diketuai Dr Abdul Hamid bermula pada jam 8 pagi melalui Jalan Parlimen dan Jalan Cenderawasih dengan membawa sepanduk sambil berselawat. Turut mengambil bahagian dalam perarakan itu ialah kakitangan jabatan kerajaan, badan berkanun dan swasta, anggota pertubuhan, persatuan dan masjid, kumpulan dari universiti, maktab dan pusat pengajian tinggi serta sekolah. Pelbagai program diatur sempena sambutan Maulidur Rasul 1419 Hijrah. Antaranya bacaan al-Quran oleh johan qari peringkat sekolah rendah kebangsaan, persembahan nasyid, anugerah Maulidur Rasul serta hadiah pasukan perarakan terbaik. Di KUALA TERENGGANU, lebih 2,000 umat Islam menghadiri majlis sambutan yang diadakan secara sederhana di Dewan Besar Wisma Darul Iman. Hadir sama Sultan Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Al-Marhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafibillah Shah dan Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Wan Mokhtar Ahmad serta isteri. Di KOTA KINABALU, Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Sakaran Dandai mengetuai 75 kontinjen yang dianggotai kira-kira 6,000 umat Islam dalam perarakan dari Padang Merdeka ke Masjid Negeri di Sembulan. Acara lain pada sambutan itu yang turut disertai Timbalan Ketua Menteri, Datuk Osu Sukam ialah pertandingan sepanduk serta penyampaian anugerah Maulidur Rasul kepada enam penerima di Sabah.

Under the so called Perak Amanjaya Development Plan, some of the things that we have tried to do are the same things that I believe many others here are concerned about: first, balanced development and economic distribution between the urban and rural areas by focusing on developing small towns; second, poverty eradication regardless of race or religion so that no one remains on the fringes of society or is left behind economically; and, third, youth empowerment. Under the first one, the state identifies viable small- and medium-size companies which can operate from small towns. These companies are to be working closely with the state government to boost the economy of the respective areas.

    Collaboration, Christian Mission and Contextualisation: The Overseas Missionary Fellowship in West Malaysia from 1952 to 1977 Allen MCCLYMONT A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements of Kingston University for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in History. Submitted June 2021 ABSTRACT The rise of communism in China began a chain of events which eventually led to the largest influx of Protestant missionaries into Malaya and Singapore in their history. During the Malayan Emergency (1948-1960), a key part of the British Government’s strategy to defeat communist insurgents was the relocation of more than 580,000 predominantly Chinese rural migrants into what became known as the ‘New Villages’. This thesis examines the response of the Overseas Missionary Fellowship (OMF), as a representative of the Protestant missionary enterprise, to an invitation from the Government to serve in the New Villages. It focuses on the period between their arrival in 1952 and 1977, when the majority of missionaries had left the country, and assesses how successful the OMF was in fulfilling its own expectation and those of the Government that invited them. It concludes that in seeking to fulfil Government expectation, residential missionaries were an influential presence, a presence which contributed to the ongoing viability of the New Villages after their establishment and beyond Independence. It challenges the portrayal of Protestant missionaries as cultural imperialists as an outdated paradigm with which to assess their role. By living in the New Villages under the same restrictions as everyone else, missionaries unconsciously became conduits of Western culture and ideas. At the same time, through learning local languages and supporting indigenous agency, they encouraged New Village inhabitants to adapt to Malaysian society, while also retaining their Chinese identity.

    20/05/1997 Pahang gets 10pc stake in RM4b MEC City project Azran Aziz THE Pahang Government's 10 per cent stake in the RM4 billion MEC City, the national electrical appliances project, has been confirmed, Menteri Besar Tan Sri Mohd Khalil Yaakob said in Kuantan yesterday. He said the State Government's investment would be made through State Secretary Incorporated. "SSI has the money... All the land belongs to it," he said after witnessing the signing of an agreement between MEC and Telekom Malaysia Bhd for the provision of sophisticated, state-of-the-art telecommunications facilities to all development projects leading to and within the MEC City. Khalil said this had been confirmed with president and chief executive officer of Kuala Lumpur Industries Holding Bhd, Datuk Seri Teong Teck Leng. KLIH is the parent company of Malaysia Electric Corporation Bhd, developer of the national project.MEC has 60 per cent equity and Khazanah Nasional Bhd owns the remaining 30 per cent. Asked if he was satisfied with the 10 per cent stake, Khalil said: "It is already a lot... Even the Terengganu Government gets only five per cent in Perwaja." Chief operating officer of TelCo, Telekom Malaysia Dr Abdul Rahim Daud signed the agreement for the telecommunications company while Teong signed for MEC. The project, to build Malaysia's electrical appliances capital, is being developed on a 1,200ha site in Gambang, Kuantan, over a period of 12 years and in five phases. It was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad on March 17. Khalil said the project would provide opportunities to local small and medium-scale industries under the vendor programme.

    CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background Study Tin mining is one of the oldest industries in Malaysia. As what had been researched by James R.Lee (2000), the tin mining started since 1820s in Malaysia after the arrival of Chinese immigrants. The Chinese immigrants settled in Perak and started tin mines. Their leader was the famous Chung Ah Qwee. Their arrival contributed to the needed labour and hence the growth of the tin mining industry. Tin was the major pillars of the Malaysian economy. Tin occurs chiefly as alluvial deposits in the foothills of the Peninsular on the western site. The most important area is the Kinta Valley, which includes the towns of Ipoh, Gopeng, Kampar and Batu Gajah in the state of Perak. But that was long ago before price of tin had fallen greatly and high cost of mining had shutdown the industry. What is left now is the abandoned mine site scattered all over Perak. Some mines are far from populated area and some are in the population itself such as Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). The campus is located on land that was once an active tin mining site. The residual of past activities can be seen where number of mining ponds can be found scattered in the vicinity of UTP. The main concern from geologist and nature agencies are the identification of Potentially Toxic Elements (PTEs) and the level of concentration for each element found in the area. Until now, there are only a few numbers of studies in Malaysia that has been done on data collection of PTEs and elevated content of PTEs in former mine.

ERD - Earliest recorded date. 1 Straits 1c postcard overprinted PERAK (Type P1a), with obliterator K1 and £30 Ipoh cancel D2 used No/13/91 to Kwala Kangsar, with arrival D2, 14/No/91. Fine and early. 2 D2 on 3 Perak stamps, SG 61, 64 and 70 dated MR/92 to JA/ 95. Also D3 £35 on 9 items and range of values including 3 blocks of 4 and pair with dates from 19/JY/93 to 3/FE/04. A nice group. 3 Ipoh - Straits 5c, SG 65 cancelled D3 24/No/93 on mourning cover to £40 Hamburg, 24/ NO/93. Prior to acceptance by the UPU of Malay States stamps in 1899, all foreign mail had to be paid in Straits stamps. Transit marks of Taiping and Penang on reverse are dated 25/NO. Some age staining but looks quite good for its age. (photo) 4 Ipoh - Pair of Perak postcards, P4 30/De/96 to Penang showing Telok £35 Anson transit and Penang arr. for the route north and 30/De 98 to Singapore showing Telok Anson transit and Singapore arr. for the route south. Fine pair of cards. 5 Ipoh - Similar pair of cards to previous lot showing D4, 4/Jy/1898 with dots £35 and D3 2/Mr/95 without dots and Tapah arrival of same date, v.slight staining. Fine.
