Several very soft well fed cattle this week saw most 16-18 months Steers and Heifers selling well but many purchasers keen to buy those cattle with hair a good run of open yarded longhorn steers from Mr P Langdon of Clovelly saw steers to £875 others to £790. More of these harder cattle are required. Several good bunches of single suckled steers and heifers again in demand. A good run of British Blues from Mr R Vooght of Petrockstowe saw steers to £945 and Heifers from the same farm to £900. Young single suckled 11 month old Charolais Steers from Messrs K & R Ford of Webbery reached £1000. Several Continental x Holsteins 16-18 months again saw the best steers over £900 with more required as several buyers left empty handed. A good trade for 16-18 month Holstein steers saw mostly £600+ with 5 17-19 month Holsteins from Messrs Wade of Welcombe to £660 (6). More cattle required as we are seeing a firm trade but as time goes on prices may be the same now as in 6 weeks time due to the uncertainty of the finished price. This week’s winner of the Lark Plant was awarded to Messrs Johns of Milton Damerel for a Simmental Steer at £1095. Kivells notice to Store Cattle Vendors It has come to our attention in recent months that a large number of in calf Store Heifers are being reported, and because of this the vendors are having to pay large vet bills and cost of losses to the purchaser. In previous years we have found that vendors who have scanned their Heifers empty at the time of their TB test, have had a stronger trade on the day, and that has covered their cost of scanning, based on this although it’s voluntary and not compulsory to scan your Heifers, we would highly recommend it. On talking to purchasers they would be more than happy to give a little extra with the guarantee of empty Heifers. OTM COWS – 11 am A consignment of 5 well fleshed Holsteins from Messrs Auctioneer: David Kivell – 07899 960272 Seckington Dairies saw an overall average of 105p to a top of 110p realising a top price of £873.
