Research Interests Helioseismology; internal structure and physics of the Sun; solar internal rotation and dynamics; solar activity; solar dynamo; sunspot structure and active-region evolution; solar composition; convection. Aster- oseismology; ; astrophysical fluid dynamics. Inverse problems. My main research interests are in the structure and dynamics of the interior of the Sun and other , and in helio- and asteroseismology. My early work was on the effect of rotation and magnetic fields, and this continues to be a major interest. I have worked extensively on the development, application and interpretation of inverse techniques in global and local helioseismology: major applications have been to studying the hydrostatic structure of the Sun and its internal rotation.
