It has a room for memories, flashbacks and moments which are filled with discomfort, injury as well as trauma.Works like Khadammaand Goat days throw light into the inner skirts of the experiences that the characters go through and offer wide platform for the analysis of their mindscape. Traumacan be considered as an individual‟ssensitivereaction to a particularoccasion that annoysformernotions of aperson‟s sense of life. The central feature of trauma novel is the change of the self-ignited due to anexteriorfrightening occurrence.Ashwathy of Khadammaand Najeeb of Goat days are victims of trauma that dissect their identity. They experience a sense of disillusionment and loss of identity which leads them to a traumatic situation. Both the characters reached gulf in the hope of earning money but their journey of hope soon turned to despair with the cruel treatment of their sponsors. Their misery forced them into trauma where they questiontheir own identity.

INTRODUCTION Celluloid1 is a 2013 Malayalam biographical docudrama based on the life ofJ.C. Daniel and the source of the story is the biography of J. C. Daniel written by Chelangatt Gopalakrishnan. The movie portrays how J.C. Daniel the father of Malayalam cinema made his film Vigathakumaran. The movie also shows different stages in his life. J.C. Daniel spends his entire fortune on making Vigathakumaran, but when it is screened at the “Capitol Theatre”, the upper caste people creates a chaotic situation when they see a low caste girl portraying the character of an upper caste Nair lady. Later we see him turn into the field of dental health becoming a dentist and practicing in Madurai and Pudukotai, and then we see how P.U Chinnappa an actor comes into Daniel‟s life and convinces him to make movies again. Daniel whose passion lies in making movies goes to madras with all his fortune to make movies along with Chinnappa, but Chinnappa cheats Daniel and finally Daniel lose all his money.

Jokes of the characters connected to ones’ gender and sidekicks in the movies convey Kasaragod, Kerala, India. a deeper political meaning. Caricaturing or calling people in names based on their colour constructs binaries in popular Malayalam movies; the character’s colour of the skin plays a significant role. The relationship between genders, the hero and sidekicks are determined by the colour they possess. Present study aims at assessing the ‘coloured’ jokes centered on gender and sidekicks in select Malayalam movies.
