In recent years, older Honda CB motorcycles have become increasingly popular. While the demand has increased, the outdated suspension technology has remained the same. In order to give these classic motorcycles the safety and comfort of modern bikes, we designed, analyzed and built a modular suspension system. This system replaces the old twin-shock rear suspension with a mono- shock design that utilizes an off-the-shelf shock absorber from a modern sport bike. By using this modern shock technology combined with a mechanical linkage design, we were able to create a system that greatly improved the progressiveness and travel of the rear suspension. This study attempts to formulate a scientific definition for these two terms, differentiate between these terms which are frequently used interchangeably, and explore a mathematical framework. Since the author is a practicing motorcycle designer, this mathematical code has been formulated in context of motorcycle design, but the concepts and methodology can be adopted for design in general. Finally, in context of motorcycles, DNA codes have been calculated for various makers and the results observed, by and large match with the general perceptions. Honored as a Fulbright Senior Scholar in 2015 and currently Professor of Industrial Design at the University of Kansas, I have also taught full-time at Auburn University and Carrington Technical Institute in Auckland, New Zealand. Additionally, I have taught short courses at Konstfackskolan in Stockholm and been a visiting professor at Staffordshire University in Stoke- on-Trent, England, Halmstad University in Sweden, and the Indian Institute of Technology- Bombay in Mumbai, India. This street subculture changed the role of motorcycles in society, influenced the social rules and raised different views about designers’ presumption.This study aims to discuss the following two questions in light of the phenomenon of motorcycle refit which is likely to be banned. First, why motorcycle refit was prevailing in Taiwan after 1980s? And second, why would people want to refit their motorcycles? What is their purpose and motive? By examining the historical documents and interviewing people who enjoy refitting motorcycles, we may probe into the complicated interdependence between the designers and users of motorcycle beyond the trend of motorcycle refit.The existence and development of refitted motorcycles can be understood better if we integrate designer’s script, the de-scription of people who refit their motorcycles and the social viewpoints with Actor-Network Theory (ANT). It is observed that the original motorcycle insufficiency, environmental restrictions and the user’s agency have given rise to motorcycle refit. A reinterpretation based on the background and meaning of motorcycle refit, if possible, helps us to examine the operation process of design from the user’s viewpoint.

The purpose of research to determine the cause of consumers buy automatic gear motorcycle (matic) whether because of price, design, or benefits (functional, hedonic, symbolic). To lead consumers more focused, conducted qualitative research using interviews to matic owners in 4 large cities are evenly distributed between male and female motorcycle buyers. The result is all respondents interviewed buy matic because of design. Functional benefits had already in accordance with manufacturer specified, hedonic benefits because it looks sporty, symbolic benefits because it comes with gender colors. Interesting designs make motorcycle owners buy without looking at prices as the main reference. Implications for management to produce matic many variants that buyers got more choice.
