Previous meetings • The full lineups at the Parc des Princes on 2 April 2014 were: Paris: Sirigu, Jallet, Alex, Thiago Silva, Maxwell, Verratti (Cabaye 76), Thiago Motta, Matuidi, Cavani, Ibrahimović (Lucas 69), Lavezzi (Pastore 85). Chelsea: Čech, Ivanović, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Willian, Ramires, Oscar (Lampard 72), Hazard, Schürrle (Torres 59). • Chelsea were 3-0 victors in Paris in the 2004/05 group stage through a John Terry header and two strikes from Didier Drogba. It was Mourinho's first UEFA Champions League game in charge of the Blues, the season after he lifted the trophy with FC Porto. • The teams at the Parc des Princes on 14 September 2004 were: Paris: Letizi, Mendy, Cana, Hélder, Armand, M’Bami, Pierre-Fanfan, Rothen (Ateba 84), Coridon (Ljuboja 66), Pauleta, Ogbeche (Pancrate 72). Chelsea: Čech, Ferreira, Gallas, Terry, Bridge, Makelele, Lampard, Tiago, J Cole (Geremi 70), Gudjohnsen (Kežman 11), Drogba (Duff 81). • The return match at Stamford Bridge ended goalless. Match background Paris • Paris are aiming for a third successive appearance in the quarter-finals. A year ago at this stage a 4-0 win at Bayer 04 Leverkusen set up a 6-1 aggregate success. • Their 3-1 victory over AFC Ajax on matchday five made it 32 games unbeaten at home in UEFA competition (22 wins, ten draws) – Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC were the last European opponent to defeat Paris in the French capital, in the 2006/07 UEFA Cup group stage. Paris also overcame FC Barcelona (3-2) and APOEL FC (1-0) at home as they came second in Group F. • The Parisian club have played nine matches against English sides with the record W2 D3 L4. At home it is W2 D1 L1. Chelsea • That 2004 win is Chelsea's only triumph on French soil in six visits. In the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League group stage they lost 1-0 at Olympique de Marseille and also went down 3-1 at AS Monaco FC in the 2003/04 semi-final first leg, succumbing 5-3 on aggregate. • Chelsea thrashed an FC Girondins de Bordeaux team coached by Laurent Blanc 4-0 in London in the 2008/09 group stage before a 1-1 draw in France. • The Blues are looking to reach a fourth quarter-final in five years, and a seventh in the last nine campaigns. • In last year's round of 16 a 1-1 first-leg draw at Galatasaray AŞ laid the platform for a 3-1 aggregate victory, Chelsea eventually going out to Club Atlético de Madrid in the semi-finals. • The Londoners won their group for the ninth time in their last 12 campaigns, finishing as runners-up twice more in that period. Away from home this term they won at Sporting Clube de Portugal (1-0) and at FC Schalke 04 (5-0) either side of a 1-1 draw at NK Maribor. Coach and player links • Luiz joined Paris from Chelsea last summer having signed for the Blues from SL Benfica in January 2011. He made 81 outings for the Stamford Bridge side, scoring six times. • Luiz played the full 120 minutes in the 2012 final against FC Bayern München, converting his spot kick in the penalty shoot-out. He also played in the UEFA Europa League triumph the following season over Benfica at the Amsterdam ArenA. • Alex also left Chelsea for Paris, in his case in January 2012. Others to represent both clubs include Claude 4 Paris Saint-Germain - Chelsea FC Tuesday 17 February 2015 - 20.45CET (20.45 local time) Match press kit Parc des Princes, Paris Makelele, Nicolas Anelka and Mateja Kežman. • Blanc was at Barcelona in 1996/97 when Mourinho was working alongside coach Bobby Robson. He ended his playing days at Manchester United FC between 2001 and 2003, figuring in both league meetings against Chelsea in his first season – 3-0 victories for the away teams – and a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge in his second. • In 2010/11 Hazard helped LOSC Lille to a 1-0 French Cup final triumph over Paris and a week later featured in a 2-2 draw at Parc des Princes which gave LOSC the French double for the first time since 1946. He lost just one of nine Ligue 1 games against Paris, scoring in a 2-1 home success in April 2012. • At LOSC, Hazard was a team-mate of Yohan Cabaye and Lucas Digne. • Drogba scored in Marseille's 2-1 Coupe de France home defeat by Paris on 24 January 2004. • Loïc Rémy played for OM between 2010 and 2012, scoring in a 3-0 home league win against Paris in November 2011. One of the goals was set up by César Azpilicueta, also a Marseille player during that two-year period. • Mourinho signed Thiago Motta for FC Internazionale Milano in July 2009 while Zlatan Ibrahimović worked under the Portuguese coach in 2008/09, netting 25 goals to finish as Serie A's top scorer as Inter lifted the title.

MERIT report on Media Value in Football Season 2014/15 Summary - Main results Authors: Pedro García del Barrio Director Académico de MERIT social value Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC Barcelona) Bruno Montoro Ferreiro Analista de MERIT social value Asier López de Foronda López Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC Barcelona) With the collaboration of: Josep Maria Espina Serra (UIC Barcelona) Arnau Raventós Gascón (UIC Barcelona) Ignacio Fernández Ponsin (UIC Barcelona) www.meritsocialvalue.com 2 Presentation MERIT (Methodology for the Evaluation and Rating of Intangible Talent) is part of an academic project with vast applications in the field of business and company management. This methodology has proved to be useful in measuring the economic value of intangible talent in professional sport and in other entertainment industries. In our estimations – and in the elaboration of the rankings – two elements are taken into consideration: popularity (degree of interest aroused between the fans and the general public) and media value (the level of attention that the mass media pays). The calculations may be made at specific points in time during a season, or accumulating the news generated during a particular period: weeks, months, years, etc. Additionally, the homogeneity amongst the measurements allows for a comparison of the media value status of individuals, teams, institutions, etc. Together with the measurements and rankings, our database allows us to conduct analyses on a wide variety of economic and business problems: estimates of the market value (or “fair value”) of players’ transfer fees; calculation of the brand value of individuals, teams and leagues; valuation of the economic return from alliances between sponsors; image rights contracts of athletes and teams; and a great deal more.
