Working experience 1985.7—2002.5 worked as quality inspector, technician, Yixing Ceramics Inspection Center, Jiangsu Province; accredited to Yixing Colored Ceramic Crafts Factory for decoration of colored ceramics; learned from Wang Shigeng, an arts and crafts master (specialized in ceramics) in Jiangsu Province 2002.5—2004.4 learned from Li Youyu, a master of ceramic decoration; moved to Shanghai; launched a colored ceramic arts and crafts studio; engaged in restoration of ancient ceramic artworks in Shanghai Outstanding Historical Buildings; created ceramic artworks in public areas. 2004.5 – till now worked as Chief Craft officer, Chief Craft Artist, Chief Technician, Shanghai Gongchun Ceramics Co., Ltd., working with French architect Paul Andreu to create wall-hung ceramic artworks in Shanghai Oriental Art Center; and entering into cooperation with various institutions including HKG from Canada, PES from Finland, Nihon Sekkei from Japan, Gensler from the US and Murphy/jahn from the US to create multiple ceramic artworks in public areas. IV. Major art achievements: Invented the modern wall-hung ceramic artworks as a new genre of ceramic art in public space; Jiang Guoxing’s wall-hung artworks have been successfully installed in public areas including Shanghai Oriental Art Center, Intercontinental Shanghai Expo Hotel, Shanghai Railway Longhua Station, and Poly Grand Theater in Yixing City. Drawing upon the colored ceramic art techniques of the Pan-Tai Lake region, as well as ceramic art techniques of various major kilns in China including Jingdezhen, Longquan and Yuzhou, the Shanghai-style colored ceramics technique has been gradually formed, after years of exploration and practice. It has been widely and successfully applied in restoration of ancient ceramic artworks and ceramic art in public space. V. Major academic activities and achievements 1. Authored two books Ceramic Art Life and Tianshen’s Love for Ceramics; co-authored Wang Yinchun, Great Master of Purple Clay Teapot; edited The Journey of Discovery; the paper Application of Jiang Guoxing’s Wall Hung Ceramic Works in Architecture and Public Spaces was published by IAC; officially published articles totaling 1.5 million words at home and abroad. 2. Held a solo exhibition High Aspirations – Jiang Guoxing Ceramic Artworks Exhibition at Shanghai Arts and Crafts Museum for ten days, starting from April 29, 2010; wall-hung artwork Starry Night and teapot October in Sacred Land were displayed at China National Museum during the 2014 China Contemporary Craft Biennale for 12 days in December 2014; teapot October in Sacred Land and purple clay Hexagon Teapot with Swing Handle were displayed at the 17th International Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition in France; artworks China Purple Gold Teapot and Tribute Teapot were exhibited at the 18th International Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition in France. 3. Received 47 patents issued by State Intellectual Property Office of P.R.China; received one invention patent issued by UK International Science Center. 4. Employed as visiting professor with the School of Arts and Crafts of Shanghai Art & Design Academy starting from December 12, 2008; employed as advisory professor with the artistic design program of the College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP), Tongji University, starting from May 19, 2010; delivered the keynote speech Appreciation of Purple Clay Teapots during the 5th Tongji University CAUP International Design Summer Camp from August 29 to 30, 2009. 5. Starting from 2008, tutored 413 students, divided into 9 groups, from CAUP, Tongji University, including 160 overseas students and visiting scholars from 30 countries including the US, Britain, Germany, Spain, the Netherland, the Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, France, Italy, Austria, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Monaco, Croatia, Bulgaria, Australia, Iran, Israel, Syria, Ecuador, Bengal, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, India and Thailand. VI. Collected artworks Twelve artworks have been collected by museums from home and abroad. Two purple clay teapots, October in Sacred Land and China Purple Gold Teapot, have been collected by China National Museum, China Arts and Crafts Museum, Diaoyutao State Guesthouse, Shanghai Arts and Crafts Museum, Nanjing Museum, Yan’an Revolution Memorial Hall and State Artist League of France. Ceramic artworks Mountain Water Zen and Cloudy Sky have been collected by China Arts and Crafts Museum and Museum of Asian Art in Greece. Books Tianshen’s Love for Ceramics and Wang Yinchun, Great Master of Purple Clay Teapot have been collected by the Palace Museum in Beijing and Shanghai University Library in Shanghai. .

Over the past 70 years, the Chinese culture has forged ahead regardless of trials and hardships. In the course of its inheritance and development, the Chinese culture has stepped onto the world stage and found her way under spotlight. The SICA, established in the golden age of reform and opening-up, has been adhering to its mission of “strengthening mutual understanding and friendly cooperation between Shanghai and other countries or regions through international cultural exchanges in various areas, so as to promote the economic development, scientific progress and cultural prosperity of the city” for more than 30 years. It has been exploring new modes of international exchange and has been actively engaging in a variety of international culture exchanges on different levels in broad fields. On behalf of the entire staff of the SICA, I hereby would like to extend our sincere gratitude for the concern and support offered by various levels of government departments, Council members of the SICA, partner agencies and cultural institutions, people from all circles of life, and friends from both home and abroad. To sum up our work in the year 2019, we share in this booklet a collection of illustrated reports on the programs in which we have been involved in the past year.

The triangle emblem consists of graphics of a white magnolia flower, a large junk and a propeller. The propeller symbolizes the continuous advancement of the city; the large junk, one of the oldest vessels plying the Shanghai harbor, represents the long history of the port; and the large junk is set against a background of a white magnolia flower blossoming in the early spring, forecasting a bright future of the city. White magnolia is among the few spring heralding flowers in the Shanghai area. Over the past 33 years the China Institute has cultivated strong and meaningful relationships with 67 Chinese institutions of higher education, and as a result scores of CSUN students have been awarded full scholarships to pursue their dreams of studying abroad at a versatile array of universities and technical schools. Beginning in the Fall semester, we will welcome a new faculty member who will join our China Studies program and further develop opportunities for our students to study Chinese language and culture.     A Guide To Shanghai Ling Liu 01.05.2008 Shanghai (Chinese: 上海), situated on the bank of the Chang (Yangtze) River in East China, is the economic capital of mainland China. In terms of population (18 million) and area (6,340 sq km), Shanghai is also the largest city in China. Meaning of the name The name Shanghai consists of two characters, the sign for "above/onto" (shang) and the sign for "sea" (hai). Climate Subtropical climate, very hot and humid summers, very mild winters. For this reason, the time from September to November and April to June is best for travel. In July and August, the heat in Shanghai is almost unbearable. The yearly average temperature is 15.4 degrees Celsius. Currency The currency in China is Renminbi. Credit cards and US dollars are widely accepted in hotels and major shops. The basic unit of RMB (Renminbi) is the yuan (¥), also known as "kuai," divided into 10 jiao, which is again divided into 10 fen. Yuan notes come in 1, 2, 5, 10, 50, and 100. Customs Visitors to China must fill out a customs form upon arrival. When you enter the country you are asked to declare electrical goods and luxury items such as cameras, computer equipment etc. Keep this form until you exit to avoid paying duty on goods you brought into the country. There are no restrictions on the amount of foreign currency you can bring into the country. However, one must declare any cash exceeding US$5,000 or the equivalent. Shanghai is China’s most thriving economic center, with GDP per capita climbing to US$20,398 by the end of 2018. Shanghai is a pioneer in China’s reform and opening- up, as well as innovation. A total of 670 multinational enterprises have set up regional headquarters in the city, and 441 foreign- invested R&D centers have also been established here. Shanghai is one of the world’s financial centers with its financial markets generating a total transaction volume of 1,645.78 trillion yuan and trading volumes of several products ranked top among global markets. An RMB products center, which matches the currency’s international status, has taken form in the city. Shanghai is an important shipping center, handling 730.4794 million tons of goods in 2018. On top of that, its international container volume reached 42.0102 million TEUs, the highest in the world for nine straight years. When it comes to the number of cruise ship passengers, the city ranked fourth in the world. Some 771,600 flights were processed at Shanghai Pudong and Hongqiao international airports, reaching 117.6343 million inbound and outbound trips.
