These indigenous peoples represent some of the most unique cultures in a hyper-globalized world, and an emotional reminder that they are our fellow human beings and singular personalities. NASA JOHNSON SPACE CENTER ORAL HISTORY PROJECT ORAL HISTORY 2 TRANSCRIPT FREDERICK H. HAUCK INTERVIEWED BY JENNIFER ROSS-NAZZAL BETHESDA, MARYLAND – 17 MARCH 2004 th ROSS-NAZZAL: Today is March 17 , 2004. This oral history with Rick Hauck is being conducted in Bethesda, Maryland, for the Johnson Space Center Oral History Project. The interviewer is Jennifer Ross-Nazzal. Thank you for meeting with me again today. I know your schedule is busy. HAUCK: Thank you. On St. Paddy’s Day, my father’s mother, Florence Fogerty, would be pleased to know that we’re doing this on St. Paddy’s Day, if she were still with us. ROSS-NAZZAL: Thank you. We appreciate it. I wanted to ask you, in the last interview when we spoke, you mentioned that you were actually told by George [W. S.] Abbey and [Richard H.] Dick Truly that you were going to command the return-to-flight mission, but you were told that you couldn’t actually tell anyone this information. What was your reaction when you heard this? HAUCK: Well, I was absolutely thrilled that I was entrusted with that mission. I think every member of the Astronaut Office, probably without exception, wanted to be on that flight, so I was thrilled with it. The fact that I couldn’t tell people about it or speak about it publicly, any concerns about that were dwarfed by the enthusiasm that I had, knowing that this gift was in my pocket now. I knew that, of course, until something’s announced, it can be changed, and so that 17 March 2004 1 Johnson Space Center Oral History Project Frederick H.

32 REPORTAGE Juni 2007 Loop-Magazin 133 REPORTAGE Juni 2007 Loop-Magazin 133 33 London-Amsterdam-Frankfurt-Istanbul-Athen-Tirana-Bratislava-Berlin-London.

  • Throw Together a Night of Performances by International
Throw together a night of performances by international dancers, sprinkle in some teenage competition winners’ solos, and call it something cute: That would seem to be the recipe for Youth America Grand Prix’s “Stars of Today Meet the Stars of Tomorrow” gala, happening this Thursday and Friday at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Except, the name of this annual program is eerily prescient. When you look back at the lists of YAGP medalists from the past 15 years, that “Stars of Tomorrow” moniker is spot-on. They read like something of a Who’s Who of ballet—including several top names who’ve been highlighted in Dance Magazine. Back in 2002, Sarah Lane nabbed the senior bronze medal with an unforgettable performance: After her music stopped 20 seconds into her Paquita variation, she finished the rest in silence. In the audience (which erupted into a spontaneous standing ovation) was American Ballet Theatre artistic director Kevin McKenzie. We ended up putting Lane onDance Magazine‘s cover in June 2007 just before he promoted her to soloist. Jim Nowakowski won the Youth Grand Prix in 2002 before joining Houston Ballet, then took a star turn on “So You Think You Can Dance.” We named him one of Dance Magazine‘s “25 to Watch” this year. That same year, Brooklyn Mack placed third in the classical dance category for senior men. Today, he’s a standout dancer at The Washington Ballet, and partnered Misty Copeland in her first U.S. performance of Swan Lake. Hee Seo took the Grand Prix in 2003.

  • The Confident Lamenter (Sermon Notes)
The Confident Lamenter Sermon (David Lundberg) As humans we can find ways to pretty much argue about anything. But there do exist certain facts upon which everyone would unanimously agree. That uncontested fact is this: "Life is full of sorrows" - Jeff hit on this a bit last week from Psalm 3 that when everything seems to be falling apart and the feeling of panic sets in- we can run to God in prayer. - This week we are going to take a closer look at the emotional responses that come when our problems don't seem to go away or keep coming back- when we fall into a deep state of lament. - This topic of Christians expressing deep feelings like depression, grief and sorrow can be a little edgy at times. - As humans we've been designed by God to have emotions, and surely we see all sides of them expressed by the world - But as Christians these strong emotions can be confusing to us or cause a great deal of guilt b/c we hear things like "As a Christian we've been given the greatest gift anyone could ever have, so how could we ever be down- we should always be happy!" "How could a Christian ever be depressed?!" - But then we see in the scriptures that God Himself expresses a great deal of emotions including things like anger, grief and sorrow So how are we as Christians to respond when life gets hard and emotions like grief and sorrow sink in? A. I've reflected on this in my own life and realized I’ve had a variety of differing emotional responses- many that have changed as I experienced different circumstances or walked through different seasons of life.
