This milestone is the result of the efforts of many, in particular, the Network’s convenors and editors; its Administrator; and its Governance Board. At this juncture, it may be useful to be reminded of the rationale of the Network. An essential starting point is, of course, its founding document which provides that ‘(t)he purpose of the Network is to foster exchange and discussion amongst academics, electoral commissions and other interested groups on research relating to electoral regulation’.

  • Media Release from the Leader of the Opposition
Media Release From the Leader of the Opposition Monday, 6 February, 2012 NEW LABOR SHADOW CABINET ANNOUNCED Victorian Opposition Leader Daniel Andrews has today announced minor changes to Labor’s Shadow Ministry. As part of the changes, Deputy Leader James Merlino has been appointed the new Shadow Minister for Education, while the newest member of the Shadow Cabinet, John Eren, is now responsible for the Sport and Recreation and Volunteers portfolios. Jacinta Allan has added the portfolio of Police and Emergency Services and will continue in her role as Manager of Opposition Business, and Shadow Minister for Regional and Rural Development and Bushfire Response. Luke Donnellan is now Labor’s Shadow Minister for Roads, Road Safety and the TAC, while Jenny Mikakos will retain her portfolios as well as taking on the responsibility for the Children and Young Adults portfolio. Danielle Green has been appointed to the portfolios of Child Safety and Women, and retains her roles as Shadow Minister for Disability Services and Health Promotion. “The Baillieu Government has let down Victorian voters by wasting its first 14 months in office,” Mr Andrews said. “We are a united team that’s focused on continuing to hold this do-nothing Government to account. “Victorians need a Government that can make the hard decisions and do the hard work to create jobs and drive investment, not a Premier who is unable and even appears unwilling to lead. “Ted Baillieu needs to start leading this state, not just watch on as jobs are lost, hospital beds are shut and

  • 2018 Victorian State Election Analysis May 2019
2018 Victorian State Election Analysis May 2019 spence-consulting.com Spence Consulting 2 2018 Victorian State Election Analysis Commentary and analysis by Gavin Mahoney. Now that the dust has settled on the 2018 State election let’s have a look a look at the outcome from a Local Government perspective. The previous 58th Parliament consisted of 22 members of the 88 seat Legislative Assembly who were former Councillors, and in the 40 seat Legislative Council there were 9 former Councillors. With a record number of Councillors standing at the 2018 state election a greater municipal presence within the state legislature seemed possible. Figures show that 43 existing Councillors contested both houses and 31 former Councillors also tried their hand, a record 74 candidates in total. So, what was the wash up for current and former councillors? We bid farewell to former (Councillors) members of Parliament who chose to retire at the election, Christine Fyffe (Liberal, Evelyn), Judith Graley (ALP, Narre Warren South) and Geoff Howard (ALP, Buninyong). Jane Garrett (former Yarra Councillor) successfully moved from the Lower House (Brunswick) to the Upper House (Eastern Victorian Region), replacing Daniel Mulino another former Councillor, who won ALP preselection for the newly created and safe Federal seat of Fraser. Daniel should add to the Local Government stocks within the National Parliament after the 18 May Federal Election. Peter Crisp (National, Mildura) was defeated being replaced by Mildura Councillor Ali Cupper, who stood as an Independent. Andrew Katos (Liberal, Baron South) who initially won the seat from another former Councillor in Michael Crutchfield, lost to another former Councillor and previous ALP Federal Member for Corangamite, Darren Cheeseman.
