Before joining this university he has worked as Research officer for four year in Dr. V.S. Wakankar Archaeological Research Institute, Govt. of M.P., Bhopal. As Research officer he surveyed 500 villages of Harda and Ashoknagar of Madhya Pradesh, and discovered a number of sculptures, temples and other antiquities. Besides, he conducted Prehistoric exploration in Hoshangabad district of Narmada valley. As Co-director he conducted the excavations at the Gambhirwatola (Distt. – Anuppur) and Mehtakhedi (Distt.-Khargone) M.P.. He has also conducted two scientific debris clearance work at Bhojnagar (Bhopal) and Richhawar (Distt.-Raisen,MP.) and participated in the excavation at Manora (Satna, M.P.) as Government officer. He has successfully organized five National seminars, ten Workshops and 15 special Lectures on different aspects of archaeology in Wakankar Archaeological Institute, Bhopal. Dr. Jain has documented Around 4000 Jain sculptures in Jabalpur, Damoh, Sagar, Tikamgarh and Chhatarpur District of Madhya Pradesh, under the NMMA project, Archaeological Survey of India. He has published one book and 25 research papers in various journal, volume and seminar proceedings. After the completion and award of Ph.D. Degree on the topic ‟ Digamber Jain Sahitya mein Varnit Samaj ka Adhyayan” (First Century C.E. to 12 th Century C.E.) he Joined Dr. Harisingh Gour University, Sagar as Lecture (contract) from 2001 to 2010. He also awarded as Rashtriya Jain Yuva Samman for Jain archaeology by Rashtriya Digambar Jain Samiti, at Shravanbelgola, Karnataka in 2017..

    Chapter – I INTRODUCTION Madhya Pradesh (including what is now Chhattisgarh) was constituted on st recommendations of the State Re-organisation Commission on 1 November 1956. The Mahakoushal and Chhattisgarh part of the Old Central Provinces (CP) and Berar, Vindhya Pradesh, Madhya Bharat and Bhopal were merged to form the new state. Some districts of CP and Berar were transferred to Maharashtra and there were a few minor adjustments with st Rajasthan, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. From 1 November 2000 Chhattisgarh was carved out of Madhya Pradesh. The state is endowed with rich natural resources, salubrious climate and fertile agro-climatic conditions. At present Madhya Pradesh consists of 10 divisions and 50 districts. As per 2001 census, it has a population of 60 million with a population density of 196 persons per sq.km. 1.1 Physiography 0 0 0 0 Madhya Pradesh lies between latitude 21 6'and 26 54'N and longitude 74 and 82 47'E. It covers a geographical area of 308,245 sq.km which is about 9.38% of the total area of India. The State is land - locked and at no point is the sea less than 300 kms away. Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan surround it. Most of the State lies on the tableland of Central India bounded by the Upper Gangetic plains in the north; the Godavari valley in the south; the plains of Gujarat in the west; and plateau of Bundelkhand and Chhattisgarh in the east. The State is traversed by the Vindhya, Satpura and Maikal hill ranges running east west.
