Day 1 (13/06/2013): Arrival at Zurich ‐ Kartause in Warth‐Weinigen 45 km Kartause ‐ Hotel Zurich / center about 12 km

Check with LH about 07:35 clock ‐ pick up at the Zurich airport by your driver. Drive to Warth‐ Weinigen ‐ visit the Kartause.

"Gardens of delight" The diversity of the Kartause is reflected in their gardens. The small and the large cloister garden within the monastery walls are places of silence and reflection. Around the monastery you will meet many testimonies of historical or current use of garden. In one of the cell gardens a reconstruction of a medieval herb garden has been created according to the scheme of St. Gall Monastery Plan. The baroque garden with geometric boxwood borders and elegant fountains in the center is used since the 19th Century as a place of representation and recreation. In early summer, you are met with an extravagant splendor of more than 1,000 rose bushes of some 250 historic roses. Their own hops and vineyards beyond the monatery walls and Ittinger forest, which are partially preserved as nearly untouched nature, forms one park combined with the Thurvorland."

"Rosengarten ‐ roses around the estate" Since 1981, the summer gardens of roses shape Kartause. The Rose Society Winterthur and Surroundings developed and implemented together with the nursery of the Kartause the planting plan. Around 250 different, mostly historical roses delight visitors today.

Day 3 (06/15/2013): Konstanz ‐ Baden‐Baden and Alsace 200 km Breakfast at hotel. Trip to Baden‐Baden, where you spend the day + Alsace. Patrons plant, Garden Spa (Baden‐Baden) + any small city tour with Casino etc.

Rose gardens in Baden‐Baden "The Gönneranlage garden ‐ a jewel located directly on the Oos, midst the Lichtentaler Avenue was donated by the German‐American Coffee king Hermann Sielcken, named after the Baden‐Baden Mayor Albert Gönner , designed by Professor Max Laeuger and opened on 11 October 1909. In the strictly symmetrical hedge‐ garden roses are grown and maintained since 1952. Meanwhile, about 360 varieties of roses can be counted. Upon entering the garden via the 'Josephine‐ bridge', one sees beyond a lawn flanked by rose bushes the Josephine Fountain with a large pond, in which there are goldfish and water lilies. The fountain was built by the sculptor Joseph Flossmann (1862‐ 1914) designed in style. The left figure personifies the Spa, the right figure, the drinking. Bridge and fountain are named after Mrs Sielcken, the wife of the founder.

Société Alsacienne et Lorraine des Amis des Roses / Rose Alsatian friends Rose Garden, which was inaugurated in 1898 by 'Countess Stefanie Wedel' ‐ 8500 roses in 550 varieties. We are pleased to receive this South African group of rose lovers. We will be lead through the rose garden in German. Afterwards, enjoy a cup of tea with rose biscuits.

Day 4 (16/06/2013): Baden‐Baden ‐ Rose Nöggenschwiel village about 180 km ‐ Steinfurth, Bad Nauheim, about 375 km Breakfast at hotel. Trip to the in the Rose Village Nöggenschwiel ‐ guide (beginning 12 clock / lasts about 1.5 hrs + then liquor / liqueur ‐ possible lunch in the village, if desired.

Rosendorf Nöggenschwiel in the Southern Black Forest Countless rose gardens characterize the entire village image ‐ in summer you will be met by colourful flowers at the village entrance. cannot miss is the Black Forest Rose Collexction. Opened in 2008, the roses grow beautifully here. Together with the nearby attractions of the Black Forest and the neighboring Switzerland, Nöggenschwiel is worth a visit.

Rose Union eG. The Rosen‐Union eG. was established in 1961 as an association of Rose nurseries in and around Steinfurth that produce roses but do not want to retail themselves. This task is up to the Rose Union. The Rose Union produces roses from breeders around the world and therefore has a very broad and extraordinary range of roses. All the important and well‐known varieties, but also many rare roses are available

We do tours of our facility. Here you learn about the workings of us as a cooperative, rose Storage, rose treatment, new tests, shipping and distribution channels, plant protection; we have a 5,000 m² display garden with over 300 different varieties. The tour in our operation takes about 90 minutes There is also in the area rose fields and field‐cut rose‐fields, which can be visited. The time required for this is then about 1 hour.

Rose Nursery Schultheis

The Rosenhof Schultheis is the oldest German Rosen Nursery and can look back on 139 years of rose breeding. Today, the family business in the 5th Generation of Henry and Christian Schultheis. The company is specialized in the mail order roses. The Rose offer leaves almost nothing to be desired, because with more than 1000 varieties of roses Schultheis it is not only one of Germany's largest rose grower, but also features the largest species diversity. 100,000 roses are annually grown and shipped mostly to private clients in Germany and other European countries. The Rosenhof is particularly known for its large selection of historical roses that are very trendy. Their most successful breedings are Sternenflor, Felidae and Rosendorf Steinfurth. Rose Museum The world's only museum dedicated to art and cultural history of the rose can be found in the district of Bad Nauheim Steinfurth. Since 1868, the village became a center of the rose world. In 1990, the Museum of the queen of flowers was opened. Collection, research and exhibition exclusively revolve around the prickly flower. Porcelain, flowers, rose books, graphics and paintings are some of the collection. In this museum, interdisciplinary thinking and intuition is already reality: natural history, art history and cultural history form a close relationship in this museum. Visitors will learn not only how roses are grown, but also how they are built. Everything is based on the five, the pentagram. Find out why the rose symbol of femininity, love, beauty, transience and secrecy. The Rose Museum has enjoyed a long‐standing relation to Bulgaria, England, France, Japan and Turkey. International events on the one hand and the exchange of knowledge and works of art on the other hand for many years to enrich the work of the museum. In 1998, a German‐Japanese Haiku stone in the Rose Museum and set up an international haiku stone 2006 in Japan. A Bulgarian Rosenöldestille tells visitors to the museum of the over 300‐year tradition of the rose oil.

Day 6 (18/06/2013): Bad Nauheim ‐ Kassel 160 km ‐ about 155 km Sangerhausen After breakfast departure to Kassel. Visit the Rose Island in Wilhelmshöhe Mountain Park. Meeting with the Association of Rose Island Wilhelmshöhe.

"For 30 years now, the Association Roseninsel Wilhelmshöhe in collaboration with the Administration General government palace and gardens, care for the roses in the park Wilhelmshöhe. This historical area does not only boast with important art treasures, but also found in Kassel, is the great garden art created with exquisite park trees from around the world. Elector Wilhelm I had his court miniaturist‐painter, Salomon Pinhas, paint a large part of his collection. The association is obligated to abide by the historical model of the system of Daniel August Schwarzkopf, to complete the collection add some wild‐ and shrub roses. Guided tour of Osterwieck. We will see one or two gardens, visit the childhood home and former nursery. Then enjoy a cup of coffee with strawberry cake in "Grandma's Garden" or in the plantation with wonderful views of the Brocken.
