4TH CONVOCATION C E R E M O N Y

EXHIBITION & POSTER PRESENTATION 18th -20th March, 2013

…building a 21st Century University, properly called! F O R E W O R D

It would be correct to aver that Adekunle Ajasin University is gradually coming of age. It is now about 14 years old on its present site! The Convocation Ceremonies which commenced with a Press Briefing on Tuesday, 12th March, 2013, are the fourth in the history of the University since the second phase of its history commenced November 1999.

This year's edition is unique in a number of ways. It is of a broader scope, presenting a record figure of graduands of about 6,000, and taking place in our new look, more beautiful, greener and inviting Campus. Perhaps more importantly, new features and programmes have been added, making the Convocation Ceremonies this year quite a ground- breaker of some sort.

This year's Convocation has a place for Exhibition (scientific and artistic) and Poster Presentations. This is one programme that affords members of the public an opportunity of a glimpse into some of the efforts at scientific research and investigation on- going in the University. I have the utmost pleasure in inviting you, most humbly, to be a part of these and all of the events lined up for this most unique Convocation.

Thank you for being a part of our dream of building a 21st Century University, properly called!

Professor N. Oluwafemi Mimiko, Vice Chancellor,

Summarized History: Adekunle Ajasin University is located in Akungba-Akoko, in Akoko South-West Local Government of the State. The University campus is located along Ikare- Road. It is approximately 6km south of Ikare, the nearest urban (commercial) center, 7km west of Oka, headquarters of Akoko South West Local Government, 48km north of Owo and 70km north-east of Akure. Akungba-Akoko is at a radius of about 150km to other big towns like Ondo, Ifon, Idoani, Ado, Auchi, Okene, Kabba, etc.

The University was first established in March 1982 with the name Obafemi Awolowo University, by the government of the old Ondo State, led by the late Chief Adekunle Ajasin. The succeeding military government of Navy Commodore Bamidele Otiko changed the name to Ondo State University in 1985. Relocation to Akungba-Akoko became imperative in 1999 following the creation of a new State out of the old Ondo three years earlier in October 1996. The bill for the relocation was signed into law by the Governor of the State, Chief Adebayo Adefarati, precisely on November 5, 1999, prompting the movement of a crop of workers from the old site in Ado-Ekiti to Akungba-Akoko on December 1, 1999. The bill for yet another name change, this time to Adekunle Ajasin University, after the late Governor Ajasin, was signed into law by Governor Adefarati in 2004.The amended and subsisting Statue of the University was signed into law in November 2007, by former Governor .
