Context In the context of Globalization, Education has become one of the important inputs for producing skilled human resource and often emphasized that the educational institutions are expected to have the responsibility of producing quality based outcome. This needs the integration of stakeholders so as to assess the need. The science subject is fast expanding, and the concepts, theories and practices are often augmented and sometimes changing with the existing context. All these aspects are to be taken in to consideration for the updating knowledge involving subject experts through organized seminars / Conferences / Workshops.

Practice

 Institution – industry interface in created and established through Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs).  Community is ropped in with curricular practices through Part V activities.  Social responsibility is taken care of through Extension Service activities of various Departments and skill development through Entrepreneurship Development Cell.  Subject experts are brought in and interaction are facilitated through organizing Seminars / Conferences / Workshops / Summer Training Programmes. Evidence of Success  The institution has forged 29 MoUs with various academic and research organization, industries and health section.  The MoU signed organization have actively involved in funding for Seminar / Conferences, facilitated internships, industrial visits, placement, transmitting Lab to Land practices etc.  Each Department has organized National / International Seminars / Conferences/ Workshops / summer training programmes, etc.  Two seminar proceedings have been published.  Created platform for the presentation of research papers (210 were presented in various Seminars / Conferences organized by the institution (INSA, IASC, etc.)

AQAR 2017-18 – NAAC – Bengaluru

 Science Academies of India sponsored and powered a two day Lecture workshop.  The Department of Microbiology has conducted free five day summer instrumentation training programme involving students from different colleges.  Organized ICSSR sponsored seminar

Problems encountered  Being a self financing institution, /raising and accessing funds from funding agencies has become difficult.  Since most of the students hail from rural based schools, there is parity among the students; some of them are elite (Advanced learness) categories and most of them are under the category of average and slow learness. Best Practice – II

Title ‘Lab to Land’ Research Practices. Goal To strategically reorient the research activities of the various Departments of the institution, so as to make them socially relevant. Context The institution is located in a rural area. It is also surrounded by the villages. The main occupation of the villagers is agriculture. The research activities of the Departments of Life Science (Microbiology and Biochemistry) are actively engaged in micro organisms and plants oriented research activities. It is well established that these are number of microorganisms could be used as biofertilizers to enhance the productivity and yield of the crop plants. Similarly there are number of plants that could be used to cure various ailments. The phytochemical constituents of such plants are to be elucidated, patented and attempts are to be made for technology transfer and drug development. This clearly indicate that there is an urgent need of concerted efforts on research towards various dimensions of the said aspects. Practice  Micro organisms are isolated from various source  They are screened for potential/beneficial activities such as nitrogen fixation, phosphate solubilization and nutrient uptake, etc.  Formulations are made with beneficial micro organisms as biofertilizers and delivered to farmers at subsidized cost.  Vermicompost are prepared and marketed at subsidized cost  Phytochemical constituents of various medicinal plants are elucidated and attempts are made for formulation of delivery system  Transformation of lignocellulosic wastes into organic manures is attempted  Students of M.B.A. evolve strategies for marketing such product Evidence of success  Biofertilizers used as an alternative to chemical fertilizers so as to enhance the soil health  Corpus Fund of a sum of Rs. 26,172/- has been created by marketing the product. Delivery systems for various micronutrients have been successfully made and marketed
