To reach better performance, every hockey player uses also a hockey tape for an adjustment of the stick blade, that changes both the damping properties as well as the friction coefficient of the blade surface. To show the unexpected extent to which these physical properties of the blade affect the shot, we compared two types of blade cover: traditional tape (rolled onto the blade) and a blade sticker that adheres to both sides of the hockey stick blade. We analysed high-speed recordings of two types of shots by 13 players, ranging from amateurs and junior players to NHL superstars. The two covers differ greatly in friction coefficient and stiffness, which results in significantly (more than 99% confidence) greater speed, rotation and energy when using the stiffer and rougher sticker. 1 Introduction Ice hockey sticks have experienced a gradual development in recent decades. Progress in material science allowed the replacement of widely used wood by composite materials that nowadays represent the standard for hockey players worldwide. Broad usage of new materials like aluminium and composites has become an interesting topic for research as well. -

Johnson Tyler Schwartz Introduction Broomball has become a tradition for many Michigan Tech students during the long winter months in Houghton, Michigan. The following guide provides step‐by‐ step instructions on how to make a broomball stick for IRHC Broomball at Michi‐ gan Technological University. It is best suited for individuals who have never con‐ structed a broomball stick before. It can also be used as an instructional resource for those teaching others how a broomball stick is constructed. The guide will lay out the general procedure for constructing a broomball stick. The guide will also discuss different styles of broomball sticks that can be made and the IRHC rules and regulations that pertain to the construction of broomball sticks. Remember that this guide is intended only for those individual who going to be competing in IRHC Broomball at Michigan Tech. Broom Diagram (Yes, this is a diagram of a broom!) This diagram points out some im‐ portant parts of the broom, but more importantly, gives them a standard name that will be used throughout the rest of the guide. EQUIPMENT All players on MWHA teams are required to wear protective equipment during all games and practices. Each player needs the following: • Proper fitting ice skates • Stick • Breezers or shell, black in color. White & and red trim is acceptable. • Safety certified helmet, black in color, with attached face- guard • Attached colored mouth guard is always required. • A supporter and cup or pelvic protector • Shin pads • Shoulder pads • Suspenders – belt • Garter or sock shorts • Hockey gloves • Elbow pads GOALIE EQUIPMENT • Goalies athletic cup/pelvic protector • Garter belt and socks or sweat pants • Goalie Breezers are strongly recommended, black in color. • Skates – goalies stakes are highly recommended above mite level • Leg pads • Chest protector/arm protector • Goalie Helmet/Facemask, mouth guard and goalie neck protector • Glove and blocker • Goalie stick of appropriate size UNIFORMS Travel teams: Each player will receive two game jerseys of contrasting colors that they will return at the end of the season. Players will also receive one pair of hockey socks as part of their uniform. Mite teams: Mite teams will receive one jersey that they will keep at the season’s end. All mite players will be given one pair of hockey socks. NOTE: No teams in the MWHA will have uniforms that differ from the MWHA approved uniform. COVID-19 RETURN TO PLAY PROTOCOLS & GUIDELINES We’re committed to providing the highest levels of safety for our community. To ensure player and staff safety, we have implemented mandatory 'Safe Return to Play Guidelines' for all Club Activities. In order to play with FCSSC and stay in good standing, the following guidelines MUST be followed. To ensure a successful season, please remember to practice safe physical distancing and a positive attitude! All players are required to read, understand, and adhere to the following: 1. Safe Return to Play Guidelines 2. COVID-19 League Changes 3. Self Screening Tool (done before each game). 4. Sport-Specific Rule Modifications outlined below PLUS, 5. Facility specific COVID-19 Protocols (you can find these protocols in the facility link in your schedule once live). TEAM HEALTH AMBASSADOR (THA) All teams must assign a Team Health Ambassador (THA) for the season. The THA must be a registered player and identified using the “THA” label in your online roster. THA Role: o Keep a record of attendance at each game. This record may be called upon for contact tracing. o Ensure individual wellness checks “COVID-19 Self Screening” are completed by each player prior to each game. o Ask players to leave the game if they arrive showing symptoms of cold or flu. o Ensure physical distancing measures are enforced by your team. Physical distancing of two meters is mandatory when players are arriving on-site, playing the sport, resting/sitting on the sidelines, and departing the game. o Sport-specific rules may adjust physical distancing measures taken on the playing surface. -
Ice Hockey Goaltender Equipment Guide
Goaltender Equipment Guide It essential to have proper-fitting ice hockey goaltender equipment, not only for your performance, but also for your safety. From your pads to your helmet and from your stick to your skates, your goaltending equipment has to perform and protect to keep you safe on the ice. Protective Goaltending Gear All goaltenders need leg pads and a chest protector, as well as a catch glove and blocker. Leg Pad Fitting and Sizing Goaltender leg pads generally come in sizes ranging from 26 to 34 inches. To determine your proper size, measure your leg from your ankle to the top of your kneecap. Then measure from the middle of your kneecap to half way up your thigh. Add these two numbers for your goalie leg pad size. If you are between sizes, choose the larger size for additional protection. Some goalies prefer their pads an inch or two shorter for increased maneuverability. Chest Protector Fitting and Sizing Chest pads offer protection to the vital chest and heart areas. Chest protectors protect most of the upper body. Chest protectors also include a spine protector for your back. Catch Glove & Blocker Gloves range from youth sizes of about 9 inches up to full adult sizes of 16 inches. Use a tape measure to measure the distance from the end of your elbow pads to the tips of your fingers. This number equals your glove size. Catch Glove o The catch glove looks very much like an oversized first baseman's mitt and is worn on your nonstick hand. o Catch gloves have an oversized catching area, a molded one-piece thumb area, a precurved palm and individual finger areas. -
