INSCRIBED WINDOW-PANE (1), INSCRIBED WINDOW-PANE (2), AT ELDWICK CRAGG, BINGLEY. AT ELDWICKl[CRAGG, BINGLEY. SIZE OF PANE SYs X }6 INCHES. SIZE OF PA:-oE S7i X J.Yz' INCHES. 3 P:rt.OCJ:EDINGS. INSCRIBED WINDOW-FANES IN A YORKSHIRE FARJY\·HOUSE. The accompanying photograph represents two leaded panes which formed part of a window at Toils Farm, at Eldwick (Heldwick) Cragg, in the Bingley Circuit. The farm at the time of the scratchings was tenanted by Mr. John Whitley, a local preacher and class leader; and · here the early Methodist preachers· found rest and refreshmP.nt. His descendants state that it is a tradition in the family that the Rev. J. Wesley always called at this farm on his journeys between Keighley or Bingley, and· Otley or Guiseley. The House is very near to the old road, and, judging by the Itinerary, he would call eight times. 1 He is believed also to have written the poetry and the shorthand, but for this I can find no warrant. The PoRTRAIT on the first pane is evidently intended to represent Wesley. There is an abortive] to the right, and, although we miss the long nose, eager eyes, and masterful chin of the great evangelist, yet in pose, and arrangement of hair, it is evidently 'after' the portrait taken by Nathanael Hone, R.A., now hanging in ·the National Portrait Gallery, or the engraving of this by Bland, made I765, and published in Wesley's Notes on the Old Testament. 2 The SHORTHAND, interpreted by Williamson's system (I 77 5).

  • Excited for Eldwick School by Lucy Blyth and Jane Courtney Mumby 1
Excited for Eldwick school by Lucy Blyth and Jane Courtney Mumby 1. Let’s make friends and talk As parents we all want the best for our children, and we know that young children age 0 to 4 learn best when they have one to one care with a kind, patient, nurturing adult, and are gradually socialised with others. This helps them become confident and independent enough to attend a Nursery or pre school without us part time with one adult to 4 children when they are two years old, then one adult to 13 children when they are three years old, and then school for full days when they are four. However we also know that reality for most young families is that both parents are working as soon as they can after the birth of the child, and juggling children between private day care, family and friends. We are both mothers, and full time Early Years practitioners, and understand the pressure parents are under, and have written this to remind us all of a few simple things we can do to support our children that will help them become well rounded, sociable, confident, resilient individuals with healthy attitudes to and appetites for learning and to have made the progress necessary for them to be ready for the changes outlined above at the ages they are required to do them. In this first blog we are focusing on social skills and communication. Socialising our children is a long term project, and starts at birth, and in its simplest form is very similar to socialising a puppy.

Eldwick is a village at the top of Bingley, backing onto the beautiful and scenic Baildon Moor! This very sought after area has a fantastic mix of properties, ranging from 1800’s farmhouses to modern luxury developments; but still manages to retain the privacy and desirability which has put Eldwick on the map! The location is approximately 1.5 miles distant from Bingley town centre which offers a range of shops, amenities, bars, restaurants and well respected primary and secondary schools. Bingley is also well served by excellent road and rail links to other West and North Yorkshire business centres which include Skipton, Ilkley, Bradford and Leeds. Ground Floor Entrance hall and W.C - Main entrance to the property is via a welcoming ground floor hallway which is illuminated by a split-landing window. There is a modern downstairs W.C accessed via the hallway too (essential for any family home). Living Room - At the front of the ground floor is the large living room/ lounge. Equipped with a wood burning fire as well as a large front window to flood the room with natural light, this is a lovely room to enjoy year round. Kitchen/ Dining Room/ Snug - At the rear of the ground floor there are three rooms which have been converted into one large open-plan space - fantastic for modern family living.
