Hojas alternas, simples, hojas usualmente ampliamente ovadas y subcordatas, márgenes serrados, haz y envés glabros o pubescentes; nervadura pinnada; pecíolos largos y con dos glándulas redondeadas al ápice; estípulas pareadas, imbricadas, caducas. Inflorescencias unisexuales, glabras, las estaminadas terminales, largo- pedunculadas, espigadas; bractéolas membranáceas; flor pistilada solitaria en las axilas de las hojas distales. Flor estaminada pedicelada, encerrada en una bráctea delgada que se rompe en la antesis; cáliz unido formando una copa denticulada; pétalos ausentes; disco ausente; estambres numerosos, unidos, filamentos ausen- tes, anteras sésiles, verticiladas y lateralmente compresas en 2-10 verticilos; pistilodio ausente. -

Centro Regional del Bajío Apartado postal 386 61600 Pátzcuaro, Michoacán RESUMEN Se calcula que en México las Euphorbiaceae están representadas por 43 géneros y 782 especies, más 32 taxa intraespecíficos: 8 subespecies y 24 variedades. Se propone una lista preliminar de la familia para el país. Los géneros más grandes son Euphorbia (241 spp., 31%), Croton (124 spp., 16%), Acalypha (108 spp., 14%), Jatropha (48 spp., 6%) y Phyllanthus (41 spp., 5%). Juntos representan 72% de las especies de las Euphorbiaceae conocidas de México. Hay un género endémico del país, Enriquebeltrania y se estima que 57% de las especies mexicanas son endémicas a su territorio. Empleando el concepto de Megaméxico, este valor aumenta a 78%. Los taxa introducidos están representados por un género (Ricinus) y 10 especies. Se destacan dos centros de diversidad que corresponden con las vertientes pacífica y atlántica. -

Woody vine, climbing over shrubs and trees, to 12 m tall; leaves compound, oppo- site, glabrous, divided into 5 to 7 leaflets, leaflets lance shaped or ovate to palmate, leaf sometimes not divided or otherwise leaflets may be subdivided, nearly entire or 3-lobed, 2 to 11 cm long, 2 to 9 cm long; flowers, June through August, small, in dense clusters; fruit, numerous, hairy-tailed akene, forming fluffy powderpuff-like ball, very noticeable in fall. If leaves are divided into threes, it is pipestem clematis, C. lasiantha Nutt. Distribution: Along streams, moist places, below 2100 m (7000 ft), in many plant communities; coast ranges and Sierra Nevada to mountains of southern California. Fire Response Mechanism: Probably nonsprouter or poor sprouter from rootstock, but prolific seeder. Wildlife Value: Low value, mule deer browse. Cultural Value: Infusions used by early settlers for sores and cuts on horses, by Native Americans for sore throat, colds (Munz and Keck 1959). Cneoridium dumosum (Nutt.) Hook. Review Article Piranhea trifoliata an Amazonian plant with therapeutic action: a review . ABSTRACT The use of medicinal plants reflects the reality of a part of human history. The Brazilian population with limited access to public health programs led to the development and conservation of ethnobotanical knowledge-rich information regarding medicinal plants. However, popular wisdom lacks systematization so that it can correctly use it. This review aims to present the Piranhea trifoliata (family Picrondendraceae), an Amazonian plant, which has a wide variety of molecules with antimalarial and antioxidants effects that can be extracted sustainably, thereby obtaining compounds of medicinal applicability. Keywords: Amazonian extracts; Piranhea trifoliata; biological activity; medicinal plant. INTRODUCTION Phytotherapy and historical aspects For more than 9.000 years, Neolithic man used different ways to minimize pain, such as by plants, animal blood, cold, heat, and a psychic point of view through magic rites, spells, and communication with gods [1]. In clay plates found, with cuneiform inscriptions, the Sumerians people inhabited the regions near the Tigres and Euphrates river around 4.000 B.C. Used thyme, opium, licorice, and mustard as medicine. The Babylonians expanded the Sumerians list by adding saffron, coriander, cinnamon, garlic, and other herbs [2]. Ancient Egypt gave the world one of its first medical texts: Ebers Papyrus, named by the German Egyptologist Georg Ebers, in 1873, who bought a voluminous roll of papyrus about 20 meters long and was surprised by the translation. The papyrus admitted to having wroten 3.500 B.C. It is composed of a part related to the treatment of internal diseases and an extensive list of medicines containing about 800 recipes and more than 700 magic formulas to treat various ills where many of them use plants.
