It has been an historic World Series: The first outside the United States and the first won by a team based in Canada. And Pat "North of the" Borders was named MVP. Catchers in fact figured heavily in the course of this series. It was a World Series that demonstrated certain truisms of baseball: Good pitching dominates good hitting, and in a close series the weaknesses of a team become glaring. In both the case of the Blue Jays and the Braves this latter proposition was true.

Twins history began in 1961 when Washington Senators president Calvin Griffith made the historic decision to move his family’s team to the Midwest, settling on the Minneapolis/St. Paul area in Minnesota. Nicholson* Introduction There seems to be a never ending debate over whether the use of the Indian as a team mascot is or is not racist, derogatory, offensive, and/or vulgar (or, as seen by some, all of the aforementioned). What some people view as a harmless representation of a team, others view as a mockery of American Indian culture. Supporters of teams that define themselves by the Indian mascot claim that its use is an honorable one. Opponents argue that the mascot fosters disparagement and insensitivity for a culture that plays an important part of American history.
