1 This Tournament Goes to Eleven III: Smell the Glove 1 " This Tournament Goes To Eleven III: Smell The Glove Hosted by the University of Iowa, October 12-13, 2001 The AN Club Packet (by Matt Larson[Iowa]) Rules: Welcome to the AN Club packet - audio SOWlds for a video age. Each toss-up will consist of a clip from a movie, followed by a giveaway clue. Your job is to, at the very least, identifY the movie. Ifyou do this correctly, you will earn 5 points and a bonus for your team Furthennore, if you ring in during the audio clip, you may earn 5 bonus points for naming the actor or actress and another 5 for naming the character. You are not required to give this information. You may also give just one piece of bonus information, ifyou wish. However, if you attempt to give more than just the title of the move, and any answer ofthe group is wrong, it's a neg 5. Bonus questions will be filirly conventional. Unless stated otherwise ...on tossups, in the case of more than one character speaking, you must identifY the actor or character who speaks first for the bonus points. Also, in most cases, either the first or last name of a character is acceptable. Last, and probably least - you won't receive points for supplying the name of a title character on a toss-up. 1.     Executive Report to the Board of Trustees • February 24, 2010 CSM ALUM &GIANTS ANNOUNCER JON MILLER RECEIVES HALL OF FAME HONOR; VISITS CSM Major League Baseball Announcer and CSM Alum Jon Miller, who started his broadcasting career by announcing CSM baseball, football and basketball games, is headed to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Also known as the “Voice of the Giants,” Miller is the 2010 recipient of the prestigious Ford C. Frick Award, presented annually to recognize excellence in baseball broadcasting. In addition to calling the play‐by‐play for the San Francisco Giants since 1997, Miller has also announced games for the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers and the Oakland A’s, and has been a regular on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball telecasts for 20 years. He will be inducted at the historic Cooperstown museum during the Baseball Hall of Fame’s induction ceremonies in July. John Miller & CSM broadcasting students As a broadcast veteran of 30 years Miller has received numerous awards, including the National Sportscaster of the Year from the National Sportscasters Association in 1998 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association of America. As described by the San Francisco Giants website, he is “noted for his eloquent game description, golden voice and marvelous sense of humor.” When Miller broadcasts games that include former CSM baseball players he often mentions CSM, the athletic program and his connection to the college. As a student at CSM in the late 1960’s, Miller was a broadcasting major who learned his craft by hosting a classical music program as well as announcing the college’s sports events on KCSM‐FM.

    MARQUEE SPORTS NETWORK ANNOUNCES JON SCIAMBI AS CHICAGO CUBS PLAY-BY-PLAY ANNOUNCER January 4, 2021 CHICAGO – Marquee Sports Network today announced the hiring of Jon “Boog” Sciambi as the Chicago Cubs television play-by-play announcer. Sciambi has served in numerous roles with ESPN since joining the network full- time in 2010, most prominently as the voice of ESPN Sunday Night Baseball for MLB on ESPN Radio, and as the regular play-by-play voice on Wednesday Night Baseball telecasts for ESPN since 2014. During his time at ESPN, Sciambi has contributed to ESPN Radio’s MLB World Series coverage as an on-site studio host, while providing post-game, on-field interviews for ESPN’s SportsCenter. He also has held play-by-play duties for both the College and Little League World Series. His time at the network dates to 2005, when he began doing play-by-play for select college basketball and MLB games, and he has continued in play-by-play for both sports during his tenure at ESPN. In addition to his play-by-play duties at Marquee, he will continue to serve as a multi- platform broadcaster for ESPN. Sciambi previously served as the lead play-by-play television announcer for the Atlanta Braves from 2007-2009 and as the radio voice of the Florida Marlins from 1997-2004. “We are excited to welcome Boog to the Marquee Network and the Cubs organization. It was a World Series that demonstrated certain truisms of baseball: Good pitching dominates good hitting, and in a close series the weaknesses of a team become glaring.     Postseason Recaps, Line Scores, Stats & Records World Champions 1955 World Champions For the Brooklyn Dodgers, the 1955 World Series was not just a chance to win a championship, but an opportunity to avenge five previous World Series failures at the hands of their chief rivals, the New York Yankees. Even with their ace Don Newcombe on the mound, the Dodgers seemed to be doomed from the start, as three Yankee home runs set back Newcombe and the rest of the team in their opening 6-5 loss. Game 2 had the same result, as New York's southpaw Tommy Byrne held Brooklyn to five hits in a 4-2 victory. With the Series heading back to Brooklyn, Johnny Podres was given the start for Game 3. The Dodger lefty stymied the Yankees' offense over the first seven innings by allowing one run on four hits en route to an 8-3 victory. Podres gave the Dodger faithful a hint as to what lay ahead in the series with his complete-game, six-strikeout performance. Game 4 at Ebbets Field turned out to be an all-out slugfest. After falling behind early, 3-1, the Dodgers used the long ball to knot up the series. Future Hall of Famers Roy Campanella and Duke Snider each homered and Gil Hodges collected three of the club’s 14 hits, including a home run in the 8-5 triumph. Snider's third and fourth home runs of the Series provided the support needed for rookie Roger Craig and the Dodgers took Game 5 by a score of 5-3.

    MISCELLANEOUS Phoenix Municipal Stadium, the A’s Spring Training home OAKLAND-ALAMEDA COUNTY COLISEUM FRONT OFFICE 2009 ATHLETICS REVIEW The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum plays host to concerts, conventions and other large gatherings in addi- tion to serving as the home for the Oakland Athletics and Oakland Raiders. The A’s have used the facility to its advantage over the years, posting the second best home record (492-318, .607) in the Major Leagues over the last 10 seasons. In 2003, the A’s set an Oakland record for home wins as they finished with a 57-24 (.704) record in the Coliseum, marking the most home wins in franchise history since 1931 RECORDS when the Philadelphia Athletics went 60-15 at home. In addition, two of the A’s World Championships have been clinched on the Coliseum’s turf. The Coliseum’s exceptional sight lines, fine weather and sizable staging areas have all contributed to its popularity among performers, promoters and the Bay Area public. The facility is conveniently located adjacent to I-880 with two exits (Hegenberger Road/66th Avenue) leading directly to the complex. Along with the Oracle Arena, which is located adjacently, it is the only major entertainment facility with a dedicated stop on the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system. The Oakland International Airport is less than a two-mile drive from the Coliseum with shuttle service to several local hotels and restaurants. In October of 1995, the Coliseum HISTORY began a one-year, $120 renovation proj- ect that added 22,000 new seats, 90 luxury suites, two private clubs and two OAKLAND-ALAMEDA COUNTY COLISEUM state-of-the-art scoreboards.
