POST 382 SCHOLARSHIP

(Center Photo) September 27th marked the 100 anniversary of Lt Baesel death. He was killed in action September 27, 1918 during the second day of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. Upon learning that a squad leader of a platoon was severely wounded while attempting to capture a machine gun nest, Lt. Baesel requested permission to rescue the wounded corporal . Lt. Baesel reached the wounded man and placing him on his shoulder. Both were killed instantly by enemy fi re. The new American Legion Post in Berea was named in his honor on July 4, 1919.
