Blasko Paraklis, Parish Priest, (949) 830-5480 Zika Tatalovic, Parish Board President, (714) 225-4409 Bishop of Nis Irinej elected as new Patriarch of Serbia In the early morning hours on January 22, 2010, His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral, locum tenens of the Patriarchate throne, served the Holy Hierarchal liturgy at the Cathedral church. His Eminence served with the concelebration of Bishops: Lukijan of Osijek Polje and Baranja, Jovan of Shumadia, Irinej of Australia and New Zealand, Vicar Bishop of Teodosije of Lipljan and Antonije of Moravica. After the Holy Liturgy Bishops gathered at the Patriarchate court. The session was preceded by consultations before the election procedure. At the Election assembly Bishop Lavrentije of Shabac presided, the oldest bishop in the ordination of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The Holy Assembly of Bishops has 44 members, and 34 bishops met the requirements to be nominated as the new Patriarch of Serbia. By the secret ballot bishops proposed candidates, out of which three bishops were on the shortlist, who received more than half of the votes of the members of the Election assembly. In the first round the candidate for Patriarch became the Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral, in the second round the Bishop Irinej of Nis, and a third candidate was elected in the fourth round, and that was Bishop Irinej of Bachka. These three candidates have received more that a half votes during the four rounds of voting.

    Croatia Page 1 of 6 Croatia International Religious Freedom Report 2005 Released by the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor The Constitution provides for freedom of conscience and religion and free public profession of religious conviction, and the Government generally respects these rights in practice. There is no official state religion; however, the Roman Catholic Church enjoys a close relationship with the State not shared by other religious groups. The legal position of most major religious communities has improved due to agreements with the State, which grant benefits similar to those enjoyed by the Catholic Church. There was no change in the status of respect for religious freedom during the period covered by this report, and the coalition Government that took power in 2003 has continued to contribute to the generally free practice of religion. Religion and ethnicity are linked closely in society. Since independence in 1991, religious institutions of all faiths were victimized by the ethnic conflicts that led to the breakup of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. There were sporadic reports of intimidation and vandalism, particularly in the war-affected areas, directed against Serbian Orthodox clergy and property, although there was a decrease in severity and frequency of such attacks. The U.S. Government discusses religious freedom issues with the Government as part of its overall policy to promote human rights. U.S. Embassy officials frequently met with representatives of religious and ethnic minority communities and with government officials. Section I. Religious Demography The country has a total area of 21,831 square miles, and its population is approximately 4,437,000.

Тежиште рада је на историјском, етничком и државотворном континуитету и субјективитету српског народа на посматраном геопростору, као дијелу српског етничког простора у данашњој Хрватској. Биолошки и етнодуховни (културни и национални) развој српског становништва у простору данашње Хрватске детерминисан је процесима вишевјековних културних и политичких асимилација, етноцида, и геноцида у новијој историји, проузрокујући његово биолошко слабљење, као и промјене у културном идентитету. На примјеру Западне Славоније могу се пратити укупни историјско-географски, геополитички, државно-правни, етнокултурни и демографски процеси унутар српског етничког простора у данашњој Хрватској и Хрватској уопште. Кључне ријечи: Западна Славонија, Војна крајина, културни идентитет, државотворност, етнодемографски процеси. Džaja* Hörwarthstr. 29 D-80804 Munich, Germany [email protected] Abstract This article provides synthetic account of history and culture of the Croats in modern-day Bosnia and Herzegovina. The main aim of the study is the historical reconstruction of the genesis of the Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its starting point can be found in the Early Middle Ages, to which the history of the majority of modern European nations stands in continuity. The paper further follows history and culture of the Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the Ottoman period, their positioning towards modern national movements in the nineteenth century and the ideologies of the twentieth century. Key words: Croats, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Franciscans, ethnicity * Historian Srećko Matko DŽAJA (*1935 Kupres, Bosnia and Herzegovina) got his degree in theology at the University of Zagreb in 1971 and in 1983 was awarded the degree in philosophy at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich. As a research affiliate at the Institut für Geschichte Osteuropas und Südosteuropas LMU and Südost-Institut in Munich in the 1980s and 1990s Džaja researched history of the south Slav region with main interest in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He published four books and numerous scholarly articles. This is its tenth annual report. Serbs are the largest nation based and concentrated in the territory of the Balkans, a large peninsula in Southeast Europe. The Balkans is the only European peninsula where geographic and historical reasons have always precluded the creation of a unified and functional modern state gov- erned by the domicile population.

Matejic visited Hilan­ dar during the last days of December 1969 and the first part of January 1970. At this time he was assured that permission for microfilming manu­ scripts in the Hilandar Monastery would be granted to him: he was allowed to photograph samples of manuscripts, icons and frescoes.
