Abstract Two new species of Microrasbora are described, M. kubotai from the western (Andaman Sea) slope of Peninsular Thailand and M. nana from the lower Sittang basin in Myanmar. Microrasbora erythromicron is transferred to Danio sensu lato. Two new genera are described, Sundadanio (type species: Rasbora axelrodi) and Trigonostigma (type species: R. heteromorpha). Introduction The genus Microrasbora was created by Annandale aQuarium trade since a few years ago. Kullander* Danio flagrans, new species, is described from headwaters of the Mali Hka River in the vicinity of Putao in north- ern Myanmar. It is distinguished from D. choprae by longer barbels, longer caudal peduncle, shorter anal-fin base, more caudal vertebrae, fewer anal-fin rays, short vs. usually absent lateral line, details of the colour pattern, and mitochondrial DNA sequences. The two species share a unique colour pattern combining dark vertical bars an- teriorly on the side with dark horizontal stripes postabdominally, and brilliant red or orange interstripes anteri- orly and posteriorly on the side. Pointed tubercles on the infraorbital bones are observed in both species, but were found to be mostly present and prominent in D. choprae and mostly absent in D. flagrans, and are considered as possibly being seasonal in expression. Danio choprae is known from three localities along the Mogaung Chaung southwest of Myitkyina. Kullander* Danio dangila is widely distributed in the Ganga and lower Brahmaputra basins of India, Nepal and Bangladesh and distinguished by the cleithral spot in the shape of a short vertical stripe (vs. a round spot in all similar spe- cies). Four new species are described, similar to D. dangila but with round cleithral spot and each diagnosed by species specific colour pattern. Danio assamila, new species, is reported from the upper and middle Brahmaputra drainage in India. Danio catenatus, new species, and D. concatenatus, new species, occur in rivers of the western slope of the Rakhine Yoma, Myanmar. Danio sysphigmatus, new species, occurs in the Sittaung drainage and small coastal drainages in southeastern Myanmar. Those five species, collectively referred to as chain danios, make up a distinctive group within Danio, diagnosed by elevated number of unbranched dorsal-fin rays, long rostral and maxillary barbels, complete lateral line, presence of a prominent cleithral spot, horizontal stripes modified into series of rings formed by vertical bars between horizontal dark stripes, and pectoral and pelvic fins each with the unbranched first ray prolonged and reaching well beyond the rest of the fin. Danio meghalayensis is resurrected from the synonymy of D. dangila, with D. deyi as a probable junior synonym. Danio meghalayensis has a colour pattern similar to that of chain danios with vertical bars bridging parallel horizontal stripes but usually pre- dominantly stripes instead of series of rings, a smaller cleithral spot and shorter barbels, and the unbranched ray in the pectoral and pelvic fins is not prolonged. -

Santos, Professor of Biological Sciences Eric Peatman, Associate Professor of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Aquatic Sciences Abstract Cypriniformes (minnows, carps, loaches, and suckers) is the largest group of freshwater fishes in the world. Despite much attention, previous attempts to elucidate relationships using molecular and morphological characters have been incongruent. The goal of this dissertation is to provide robust support for relationships at various taxonomic levels within Cypriniformes. For the entire order, an anchored hybrid enrichment approach was used to resolve relationships. This resulted in a phylogeny that is largely congruent with previous multilocus phylogenies, but has much stronger support. For members of Leuciscidae, the relationships established using anchored hybrid enrichment were used to estimate divergence times in an attempt to make inferences about their biogeographic history. The predominant lineage of the leuciscids in North America were determined to have entered North America through Beringia ~37 million years ago while the ancestor of the Golden Shiner (Notemigonus crysoleucas) entered ~20–6 million years ago, likely from Europe. Within Leuciscidae, the shiner clade represents genera with much historical taxonomic turbidity. Targeted sequence capture was used to establish relationships in order to inform taxonomic revisions for the clade. -

RESIDENCY PROGRAMME IN AQUATIC ANIMAL HEALTH How and where is/will be the detailed description of residency programme available to the public? A detailed description of the residency programme will be published on the website of the FDU at http://www.tiho-hannover.de/kliniken-institute/fachgebiete/abteilung- fischkrankheiten-und-fischhaltung/. Additionally the description will be published on the website of the ECAAH. 1.1. OBJECTIVES OF THE AQUATIC ANIMAL HEALTH RESIDENCY TRAINING PROGRAMME. The objectives of the residency training programme are improvement of knowledge and skills of veterinarians responsible for the examinations of fish and related aquatic animals, like crayfish and mussels. The number of specialized veterinarians in the field is very limited and the medical care of aquatic animals is in some regions of Europe and also in parts of Germany very limited. For diagnosing and treating diseases of aquatic animals specialized veterinarians need to gain knowledge on the etiology of diseases, epidemiological connections and environmental conditions related to diseases. Furthermore the residents need to be trained on diagnosis of infectious and non-infectious diseases, disease prevention methods, treatments (medical and others) as well as animal welfare. Impacts of diseases on food quality and diseases that are related to public health have to be part of the residency programme as well. Special knowledge on notifiable disease and disease control programmes including national and international legislation regarding this topic and further fish related topics are also essential. -

Loads of people like them; there's something appealing about the jowly cheeks, pendulous body, and comical mouth. You can even get them with smiley faces, lipstick, and logos. These are the Parrot Cichlids, hybrids of dubious heritage, often deformed, injected, tattooed, and sans tail, courtesy of a pair of scissors. This is a blow to aquarists who believe the purpose of the hobby is to educate; to instill a love of nature, especially in children; to marvel at creatures sculpted by millions of years of evolution. But how can we reveal the mysteries of nature when we fill our aquaria with artificial fish? This list will assist aquarists interested in avoiding artificial, inappropriate, abused, or over-collected freshwater fishes. If you encounter a fish not listed here, note the scientific name (or lack thereof). A quick search on a reputable web site, like this one, or a visit to your local library can save you (and the fish) much grief. 1. Injected, tattooed, and amputated fish. It's a shame that fish are subjected to these inhumane procedures since the dyes eventually fade anyway. High mortality rates, disease, and reduced lifespan plague these fish. • Heart Parrot, Purple Heart Parrot, Sweetheart Parrot, Loveheart Parrot, Jellybean Parrot, Bubblegum Parrot, Cotton Candy Parrot: Those clever marketers; such cute names.
