In a time, a new format of Video Game known as Visual Novel slowly raised in Japan. They are one of the game which called as Japanese Bishoujo Game and now know as one of the format used in Japan as one of the subcultere in Gaming History. Appears as a normal novel in a screen, Visual Novel brings together such as background picture, character, sound, animation and many media in a single game, making the novel more realistic. Indonesia, as well as other country, already set some of the people's eyes on Visual Novel. Some gather to make it, some gather to translated it, and the other sharing about it. Several also start their own Visual Novel creator program, like Pytom, Renpy creator which made it purely based on Phyton, which is also used in this paper. Renpy as a Visual Novel creator program brings more advantages than several other Visual Novel creator. Renpy use pure script to make one, which capable to make anything possible, as long as your programming is adequate. While it's also possible to make a standard Visual Novel, to make it more better than a standard, Beach Restaurant, the name of the Visual Novel in this paper, implemented 2 minigames in it. While Visual Novel is considered a Game, there’s no need to recruit as many talented people as needed. There’s only one person needed to do it. So that, what’s the first step to develop such game? How to make Visual Novel with Café minigame using Renpy? In this paper, the author showed that in creating a game, especially Visual Novel game using Renpy will be easily carried out. He also expecting in the near future, games such Visual Novel will be widely known in Indonesia, and people will start creating them. Pendahuluan Teknologi Informasi sekarang ini telah berkembang sedemikian pesat dibandingkan dengan bertahun-tahun sebelumnya. Dari teknologi mengenai pembangkit listrik, multimedia, peralatan memasak, alat-alat penunjang kehidupan, kendaraan, makanan, minuman dan sebaginya, bahkan game. Teknologi game termasuk salah satu teknologi yang berkembang paling cepat diantara yang lain. Dimulai dari zaman penggunaan pixel art, yang sekarang telah menggunakan computer graphics. Dari suatu game sederhana sebesar KB(KiloBytes), sekarang telah menjadi game kompleks dan rumit sebesar GB(GigaBytes). Dari game yang hanya bisa dimainkan sendiri, sekarang bisa dimainkan sekaligus oleh ratusan bahkan ribuan orang dalam waktu yang bersamaan. Hal ini tentu akan semakin dituntut untuk meningkatkan kualitas dan mutunya, termasuk teknologi yang akan digunakan dalam suatu game sesuai tuntutan jaman. Termasuk didalamnya, adalah suatu game bertipe Visual Novel. Visual Novel adalah game yang menggunakan gaya penceritaan seperti halnya sebuah novel, divisualisasi dengan gambar berupa tokoh dari novel tersebut, gambar kejadian-kejadian yang patut divisualkan, dan gambar pemandangan dengan background dimana karakter-karakter itu sedang berada. Tak lupa, suara dari tiap tokoh yang ada didalam game tersebut, suara-suara efek latar, film, kalau diperlukan, dan tentu saja cerita dari novel itu sendiri, kedalam media berupa PC. Saya sebagai salah satu dari mereka ikut mencoba membuat game Visual Novel sendiri dengan judul “Membuat Visual Novel dengan Café Minigame Menggunakan Renpy” . 2. Landasan Teori 2.1. Pengenalan Visual Novel 2.1.1. Pengertian Visual Novel Visual Novel, sebagai turunan dari Bishoujo Game adalah sebuah jenis game untuk dimainkan di PC (komputer pribadi) pada awalnya. Visual Novel telah menjadi game offline paling populer di Jepang. Sama halnya seperti novel, game ini berbasis fiksi interaktif yang menampilkan cerita novel dalam bentuk gambar-gambar statis dengan gaya gambar anime khas Jepang. Secara visual, Visual Novel dapat dijabarkan memiliki 3 feature yang sama. 1) Gambar karakter di tengah layar; 2) Kotak horizontal di bawah untuk menampilkan teks percakapan; dan 3) Gambar background di belakang karakter untuk menampilkan lokasi. Gambar 2. 1 Tampilan Visual Novel Shukufuku no Campanella dari Windmill Oasis Visual Novel juga dikenal dengan adanya banyak cabang dari sisi cerita, sehingga memungkinkan pemain untuk memilih jalan ceritanya sendiri, sekaligus mendapatkan ending cerita berbeda sesuai dengan pilihan pemain disaat memainkan Visual Novel. 2.1.2. Tipe Visual Novel Visual Novel membagi tipenya sesuai dengan target konsumen, yaitu : 1. Hentai Games (変態ゲーム) Kata Hentai diambil dari kanji yang tersusun oleh 変 (hen; “aneh”) dan 態 (tai; “sikap” atau “penampilan”). Istilah ini digunakan sebagai versi pendek dari frase 変態性欲 (hentai seiyoku) yang berarti “penyimpangan seksual”. Kata ini digunakan sebagai bentuk pornografi di Jepang dengan sekian banyak jenis. Hentai Game sendiri terbagi menjadi 2, yaitu : 1.1. Erotic Games (Eroge / エロゲー ) Merupakan game yang ditujukan untuk kalangan pria. Eroge merupakan label nama untuk menyebut game bertajuk Visual Novel dengan konten dewasa. Tokoh utama dalam jenis ini selalu pria, dan terdapat beberapa tokoh utama wanita. 1.2. Boy’s Love Games (Otome Games / 乙女ゲーム) Merupakan game yang ditujukan untuk kalangan wanita. Memiliki konten seksual seperti layaknya eroge, akan tetapi kondisinya diputar balik. Istilah lain untuk menjelaskannya adalah reversed harem. 2. Bishoujo Game (Galge /ギャルゲーム) Bishoujo Game dalam konteks ini adalah Visual Novel tanpa unsur seks, atau versi semua umur. 2.1.3. Sub-Genre Visual Novel Dalam pengembangannya, Visual Novel dapat dibagi menjadi beberapa sub-genre, sebagai berikut : 1. Romance Game (Renai Ge-mu / 恋愛ゲーム) Sub-Genre ini merupakan tipe game terpopuler. Selain dari segi cerita ringan dan konflik yang tidak terlalu berat, konsumen dapat merasakan indahnya suatu hubungan dalam menjalin cinta kepada seseorang. 2. Insult (Ryoujoku Ge-mu / 凌辱ゲーム) Sub-Genre ini berpusat kepada humilation terhadap tokoh-tokoh wanita di dalam Visual Novelnya. Termasuk didalamnya adalah rape, bondage, hipnotis dan segala hal yang tidak dapat dibayangkan sebelumnya. 3. Simulation Game Merupakan sub-genre baru yang hadir seiiring berkembang teknologi tentang 3 dimensi (3D). 2.1.4. Konten Dalam Visual Novel Konten di dalam Visual Novel adalah sebagai berikut : 1. Adult Oriented (Nukige) Merupakan konten pertama dari Visual Novel saat diciptakan dan merupakan konten paling laris saat ini. 2. Science Fiction Konten Science Fiction memiliki cerita dengan tambahan unsur-unsur teknologi dan lokasi di luar konteks dunia. Cerita di dalamnya selalu memiliki konteks teknologi dan istilah-istilah yang tidak umum. 3. Crying Game (Nakige) Visual Novel dengan jenis Nakige biasanya diawali dengan komedi di awal, cinta di tengah, dan adegan tragis di akhirnya. Konsep cerita tragis ini membuat sebuah pandangan baru terhadap industri Visual Novel. 4. Horror Dikembangkan dari konsep crying game, tetapi bagian sedih dirubah menjadi unsur horror dan misteri. 5. RPG / Strategi Tren sub-genre ini dimulai karena sampainya titik kebosanan para konsumen terhadap konten dewasa yang monoton di dalam bishoujo game. 6. All Age (Semua Umur) Tidak semua Visual Novel memiliki konten dewasa. Pandangan ini terutama diambil oleh developer yang fokus kepada cerita, atau text heavy. Adanya konten dewasa hanya akan membatasi pada level konsumen dewasa saja. 3. Pembahasan 3.1. Latar Belakang Cerita Beach Restaurant merupakan cerita fiksi di salah satu pulau dari ribuan pulau di Indonesia, dimana pulau tersebut telah mencapai suatu titik kemakmuran di atas Indonesia. Dapat dikatakan bahwa pulau ini telah mencapai level dimana mereka bisa merdeka dan menjadi negara sendiri. Pulau ini bernama pulau Suzumiya. Pulau ini awalnya dimiliki oleh keluarga multi milyuner bernama Suzumiya. Suzumiya pada saat itu memutuskan untuk menjadikannya kota, untuk tempat tinggal yang layak. Seiring berjalannya waktu, beberapa penduduk pribumi lain mulai pindah dan membangun kota dari awal sampai akhirnya menjadi kota besar. Karena jasanya, keluarga Suzumiya ini bahkan dianggap dan dipuja sebagai Tuhan oleh seluruh penduduk di pulau tersebut. Keluarga Vina merupakan salah satu dari keturunan pengurus kuil pemuja Suzumiya. Nama von Erdlit dari Vina sendiri berasal dari ayahnya yang datang dari German untuk tinggal dan menikahi penduduk disini. Di pulau Suzumiya, terdapat satu restaurant di tepi pantai yang sangat terkenal, yaitu Café Wulakpiko. Nama dari restaurant ini diambil dari minuman terkenal asal pulau Suzumiya. Restaurant ini dimiliki oleh seorang suami istri bernama Suzukaze Tatsu dan Tere Padsben. Keduanya berharap sanggup memiliki suatu tempat makan ramai, dan memiliki keunikan dibanding restaurant biasa, yaitu kostum para karyawannya. Selain hal tersebut, keunikan utamanya adalah jumlah pelayan wanita yang lebih banyak daripada pria. Sebagai koki utama, Tere memang ahli memasak dan sanggup menyajikan makanan-makanan dengan rasa luar biasa. Keunikan ini merupakan nilai jual dari café Wulakpiko. Tidak ada hari dimana Café Wulakpiko sepi pengunjung, karena pulau Suzumiya memang mendapat pujian dikarenakan oleh pantainya.

    Playing with Pain: The Politics of Asobigokoro in Enzai Falsely Accused Playing with Pain: The Politics of Asobigokoro in Enzai Falsely Accused Tsugumi Okabe and Jérémie Pelletier-Gagnon Abstract The genre of boys’ love (BL), which generally refers to a body of works that depict fictional relationships between beautiful “boys,” is produced for and consumed mainly by women in Japan. Ludic expressions of sexuality and gender unique to BL have gained popularity on a global scale but have also drawn negative attention. In this article, we employ the concept of asobigokoro (playful spirit/heart) to highlight the importance of regional ideas of play and playfulness in game analysis. We argue that asobigokoro functions as a kind of counter-discourse as it privileges non- Eurocentric ways of knowing, understanding, and “playing” with representations of sexuality. Game analysis through an asobigokoro lens enriches the field of regional gaming by drawing on Japanese sociopolitical contexts to situate a reading of Japanese ludic representations. Asobigokoro stresses the importance of understanding cultural variations of “play” and “playfulness” in order to make sense of “taboo” subjects in culturally nuanced ways. In our textual analysis of Enzai: Falsely Accused, we discover that the simultaneous appropriation and subversion of violent and sexually explicit content, which characterizes the game’s asobigokoro, can be traced to Japanese feminist forms of asobi (play), which are rooted within the Yaoi tradition. 1. Introduction Among the various efforts to promote greater rights for women in Japan, in February 2016, the UN Committee for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) made a plea for banning “the sale of video games or cartoons involving rape and sexual violence against girls and women.” According to CEDAW, “stereotypes continue to be the root causes of sexual violence against women, and pornography, video games and animation products such as manga promote sexual violence against women and girls” (UN CEDAW 2016, 5, item 20b).

The aim was to create a playable demo using the engine from a beginner’s point of view and to test the effectiveness of VNMaker in assisting game development as a commercially used game engine. In this project, many core features of VNMaker were explored in-depth and ex- amples were given, including pictures and screenshot examples of the develop- ment process. Character artworks and UI were designed and drawn for the pur- pose of being used in the demo. The demo reached a playable state at the end of the work and a final evaluation of the tools was given. There was still more room for extra development on the demo such as better artwork, coding of UX and UI and playing experience, and writing for the story of the game. Videogames use resources from the fertile field of popular culture, exploiting models, pre-worked materials, well-known heroes, stereotypes, and myths. Since genres have multiple meanings, functions, production models and audience expectations that evolve through time, it is important to understand if a videogame genre framework exists or if there are just labels or marketing tools used by the game producers. Finding out if there is a blueprint for videogame genres requires the understanding of specific elements and their arrangement. Being aware that it is not possible to present an exhaustive genre categorization but only a general structure of the videogame genres, this paper uses the genres’ framework identified by Aaretsh, Smedstad and Sunnanå (2003) and integrates interviews with professionals. It also reviews the general and the specific genre literature and analyses the role and the characteristics of several elements that articulate the videogame genres.
