The fluid flow in the outer core is considered to be under the frozen-flux approximation. The simplified induction equation for the radial component is here involved. The velocity field is separated into a toroidal and poloidal part. The radial geomagnetic field and its secular variation and the toroidal and poloidal ingredients of the velocity field are expanded in spherical harmonics series. The maximum degrees of these expansions are chosen in such a way to match the number of unknown coefficients of the velocity field expansion with the number of algebraic equations. The Gauss coefficients of the geomagnetic field spherical harmonic expansion and their SV are taken from the gufm1 model. The system of equations is then inverted by a standard matrix inversion procedure. The recovered maps of the velocity field show a pronounced feature under the South Atlantic and Indonesian archipelago and other features that agree with those reported by other authors. -

KNOWLEDGE – International Journal Vol.30.3 March, 2019 THE ROLE OF THE GEOLOGICAL COMPOSITION IN THE STRUCTURAL MORPHOLOGY OF THE TERRITORY OF ALBANIA Andri Hoxha University of Tirana, Faculty History-Philology, Department of Geography, Tirana,Albania [email protected] Abstract: In the context of geological composition, the territory of Albania closely depends on the geographic position. The presence of our country in the alpine-Mediterranean fold belt and the geological structures, called Albanide, have determined the intense development of the internal tectonic processes, as well as the external processes. The tectonic regime of the geological structures during the Miocene epoch to the Quaternary period, was accompanied by reverse faults and thrust faults one over the other of the tectonic areas of Albania. The morphologic and morphogenetic complex of the relief was created during the tectogenic period, especially during the tecto- orogenesis, where as consequence diverse magmatic. terrigenous and carbonates rocks were created. The highly pronounced character of the differential tectonic movements during morphotectonic evolution, especially during the plio-quaternary period, has created the actual morphological features of the relief of Albania. The migration of orogenesis from east to west is conditioned by the dominance of mountainous ranges and ridges in the eastern and central parts, as well as in the fields and lowlands of the western part of Albania. The relief is distinguished by its diversified morphogenetic traits, due to the highly complex morphotectonic evolution, a large number of carbonate, terrigenous and magmatic rocks, as well as the significant influence of the outward processes. Due to the existence of composition of the large number of tectonic faults as well as the high values of tectonic uplift and downlift, the genetic composition of the structural relief was also created. -

Conserving temperate montane birds under climate change: an assessment of potential management options Joe Michael Bellis A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements of Liverpool John Moores University for the degree of Master of Philosophy November 2017 Abstract Montane species are particularly vulnerable to the threats posed by climate change. As temperatures increase, their climatic niche will shift upwards – and species must either adapt to warmer conditions, or migrate to avoid extinction. In the first section of this thesis, I assessed the feasibility of management strategies available to conservation practitioners for conserving montane bird species under climate change. I integrated the dimensions of vulnerability outlined in previous research with management strategies relevant to the conservation of montane birds in order to specify the most appropriate strategy for species that display certain elements of vulnerability. I also outline the specific data and research needs that would allow conservation practitioners to more rigorously assess the management strategy for their focal montane species. It is evident that for some highly specialised species – such as alpine birds that are restricted to habitats above the treeline – conservation practitioners will be more limited in their choice of management approach. Assisted colonisation (AC) has been proposed as a strategy for mountaintop species with nowhere left to go. However, this strategy is reliant on the identification of suitable sites elsewhere. In the second section of this thesis, I focused on the identification and assessment of potential AC sites for European alpine birds. My results highlight the severe threat posed by climate change, with European alpine birds projected to lose 57-80% of their climatically suitable area by 2080. -

Barina The vascular flora of the Valamara mountain range (SE Albania), with three new records for the Albanian flora Abstract Meço, M., Mullaj, A. & Barina, Z.: The vascular flora of the Valamara mountain range (SE Albania), with three new records for the Albanian flora. — Fl. Medit. 28: 5-20. 2018. — ISSN: 1120-4052 printed, 2240-4538 online. As a result of floristic investigations in the Valamara mountain range carried out between 2007 and 2016, 567 taxa belonging to 305 genera and 89 plant families were recorded, of which 307 taxa are reported as new for the area. A phytogeographical analysis showed that the Eurasian chorological type was the most dominant comprising 126 taxa (22.2% of the flora), the second was Balkan with 104 taxa (18.3%). There are 9 endemic and subendemic taxa. Epilobium alsinifolium, Dichoropetalum stridii and Taraxacum pindicum are new for the Albanian flora. Life-form analysis indicates that 56.8% of the species are hemicryptophytes; this high percent- age points to the Mediterranean nature of the investigated area. A total of 119 species (20.9 %) are listed as deserving conservation status. Of these, 49 are in the Albanian Red List, 76 species in the IUCN Red List, two in the Habitats Directive, one included in Annex I of the Bern Convention and seven species in Appendix II of CITES. În cei 46 de ani de apostolat rural, a fost un făcător de pace şi un aducător de bine. De la începutul carierei pârscovene s-a bucurat de compania unor colegi valoroşi, care gândeau frumos şi înălţător despre menirea şcolii româneşti. Descendent al unei familii cu tradiţii didactice, învăţătorul Dragoş Boerescu a nutrit, la rândul său, un cult al cărţii, al ordinei şi disciplinei. Datorită acestor însuşiri avea un rol important în consiliul didactic, în cercurile şi în comisiile metodice, apărând un patrimoniu care trebuia perpetuat pentru generaţiile tinere de învăţători. Un Fond Local pentru Memorialistică, înfiinţat pe lângă Centrul de Documentare şi Informare al Şcolii Pârscov, ar permite strângerea însemnărilor, jurnalelor, confesiunilor dascălilor pârscoveni din trecut şi din prezent. Pentru ca memoria lor să rămână vie. Doamne ajută! „Sunt bolnavă, plec la spital”, au fost ultimele cuvinte strigate de profesoara de geografie Constanţa POPA (4 IV 1951-27 III 2019) unei colege, după care s-a urcat grăbită într-o maşină aflată în faţa Dispensarului. -

Nat. Croat., Vol. 30, No. 1, 1-11, 2021, Zagreb. This paper aims to present the diversity of endemic plants in the Shutman area and an analysis of chorological groups and life forms. The flora of Shutman comprises 31 endemic plant species. Among them, there are 20 Balkan endemics, 1 stenoendemic and 5 sub-endemic species. They belong to 20 genera and 13 families. The richest among the endemics are families Asteraceae and Caryophyllaceae, both with 4 species. All endemics are herbaceous perennials. Hemicryptophytes dominate among life forms, accounting for 58.06%. Most of the species are Balkan floristic elements (20 species or 64.52%), followed by Southeast European and South European floristic elements, both with 3 taxa (9.68%). A total of 27 species have national or international conservation status. -
