SPRING 2010 Membership D i r e c t o r y AMERICAN MEAT INSTITUTE AMERICAN MEAT INSTITUTE J. Patrick Boyle President and CEO Dear AMI Member, For more than a century, the American Meat Institute (AMI) has strived to provide effective representation in Washington before Congress and the regulatory agencies. We also speak on behalf of the industry to the media, professional organizations and in other public forums. Our experts manage a comprehensive research agenda, advocate for free and open trade, and organize a host of educational and networking opportunities. While many things have changed in the 104 years since our founding, there are some constants too, like our commitment to represent this great industry of ours honestly and effectively in Washington DC. We are proud that the Institute is the industry’s oldest and largest trade association. Our longevity and our size can be attributed to the diversity amongst our member companies. While we are fortunate to represent many large, multi-national companies, our greatest strength and political credibility comes from our many small and medium sized companies who call AMI their association. In fact, 80 percent of our members are actually small and medium sized companies. We believe the industry benefits when diverse companies with unique ideas and expertise collaborate to make our industry better and our Institute stronger. This AMI membership directory is designed to help connect you with AMI staff and with others in the industry who have also chosen to invest in the Institute. We believe that we succeed when you succeed. Please let us know how we may be of service to you.

  • Innovation Versus Imitation Choices Amid Technological Turbulence and Intense Competition: Evidence from a Canadian Historical Case
International Journal of Business and Social Science Vol. 4 No. 8 [Special Issue – July 2013] Innovation versus Imitation Choices amid Technological Turbulence and Intense Competition: Evidence from a Canadian Historical Case Patrice Gélinas, PhD Associate Professorof Accounting School of Administrative Studies York University Lisa Baillargeon, PhD Associate Professor of Management Accounting Accounting Department - ESG University of Quebec at Montreal Abstract This paper investigates two determinants of managerial choices between product innovation and product imitation in the case of Quebec’s cast iron stove industry at the beginning of the 20th century.Analyses rely on three main sources of data focused on stoves advertised in the province: newspaper and magazine advertisements published by foundries and merchants, catalogues and secondary sources. Results suggest that product imitation strategies outpaced product innovation strategies due to high technological turbulence and high competitive intensity. Implications are that further research frameworks on innovation versus imitation choices should include those two constructs. Key Words: Innovation, imitation, Canada, Quebec, business history, foundries, strategy Introduction This paper investigates two determinants of managerial choices between product innovation and product imitation in the empirical context of the eastern Canadian cast iron stove industry at the beginning of the 20th century. More specifically, we examine how the technological context and the competitive environment may have shaped production decisions of foundries producing and marketing cast iron stoves in the province of Quebec at the time. Stove model imitation at the beginning of the 20th century in Canada is a phenomenon that has been known for a long time (Arthur & Ritchie, 1982; Baillargeon, 2006; Lessard, 1994).

CO-ORDINATED SAMPLING PROJECT 16 - Meat Products Conducted April to May 2015 with Local Government’s across Western Australia December 2017 Local Health Authorities Analytical Committee Edith Cowan University Building 19, 270 Joondalup Drive Joondalup WA 6027 CSP - 16 Executive Summary This Coordinated Sampling Project focused on meat products. The Local Health Authorities Analytical Committee (LHAAC) and Local Government Authorities (LGA’s) worked in concert to execute this project. It is essential that Western Australian citizens have access to meat products with accurate nutrition information panels, that adhere to the standards set for meat content and preservative content as described in the Food Standards Code (FSC). The purpose of this project was to assess meat products in Western Australia for nutrition information panel accuracy with a +/-20% standard applied by LHAAC and against the standards set by Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) (2015) for meat and preservative content for sausage and mince products. This was achieved through Environmental Health Officers at LGA’s throughout Western Australia submitting meat samples for analysis to LHAAC appointed analysts (Agrifood or ChemCentre). 169 samples were submitted for analysis by LGA’s throughout Western Australia. Of these 169 samples, 59 had nutrition information panels that were available for comparison with analysed nutrient contents. 348 nutrient items were assessed and 20.1% of these tests were found to be inconsistent. When assessing the samples for inconsistency on a per sample basis 88.1% were found to contain at least one inconsistency. Sausage meat was found to contain a high degree of consistency with 96.7% compliance with the standard for meat content, and 98.9% compliance with the standard for permitted preservative levels.
