Arrangements are well in hand for this year’s competition. We have a new category for a vegetable plot which should be a 10th Anniversary minimum of 10ft x 6ft. Our primary school children are being asked to grow their Billericay in Bloom 2007 garden in a pot using wild flower seeds. BILLERICAY TOWN CRIER PAGE 3 town design STATEMENT After consulting many organisations and publicising the opportunity to join an independent Steering Group Committee we are pleased to announce that the group was set up on the 28th March by the Billericay Town Council. The group appointed its own independent chairman, vice chairman, treasurer and secretary Cllr Peter Bowditch (right) congratulates and set the agenda for its first meeting on April 4th 2007. Basildon District Councillors were there to acknowledge this new group and were very helpful in their contribution to setting it up. Mr Ian Davie, the Steering Group Chairman and his new committee will be working closely with the Basildon District Council Planners and seeking relevant information from public consultations and consulting with experts and organisations in Billericay over the next 18 months. This information gathering will be consolidated into a comprehensive printed document for presentation and adoption. The Town Design Statement will provide an important part in the Community-led Plan covering Billericay Town and when adopted by Basildon District Council will form a part of their Local Development Framework for the district. We wish the new Steering Group every success and will give them every assistance. As a result of the Youth Council being approached by a number of users of the update Skatepark it was agreed that investigations BYTC should be undertaken to extend the park by BYTC adding a “Half-pipe” and “Fun Box”. The Skatepark- District Council were approached and have agreed in principle to the extension of the Skatepark and quotations were sought from four companies. The process of seeking funding commenced and the Youth Council are pleased to announce that funding of £25,500 has now been obtained to enable the proposal to continue; £13,000 funding has been obtained from Cleanaway Trust, £7,500 from the Essex County Council Community Initiatives Fund and £5,000 from the Essex County Council Youth Opportunity and Youth Capital Funds. A quotation from Rhino Ramps has been accepted and the plans are available for inspection at the Town Council offices, and members of the Youth Council have copies at Billericay School and .
