Chapter 3 Project Evaluation and Recommendations 3-1 Project Effect It is appropriate to implement the Project under Japan's Grant Aid Assistance, because the Project will have the following effects: (1) Direct Effects 1) Improvement of Educational Environment By replacing deteriorated classrooms, which are danger in structure, with rainwater leakage, and/or insufficient natural lighting and ventilation, with new ones of better quality, the Project will contribute to improving the education environment, which will be effective for improving internal efficiency. Furthermore, provision of toilets and water-supply facilities will greatly encourage the attendance of female teachers and students. (2) Indirect Effects 1) Enhancement of Community Participation to Education Community participation in overall primary school management activities will be enhanced through participation in this construction project and by receiving guidance on various educational matters from the government. 91 3-2 Recommendations For the effective implementation of the project, it is recommended that HMG of Nepal take the following actions: 1) Coordination with other donors As and when necessary for the effective implementation of the Project, the DOE should ensure effective coordination with the CIP donors in terms of the CIP components including the allocation of target districts. -

GNI Nepal has been operating its activities in 20 districts. GNI Nepal with support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has been implementing Health System Recovery Project (HSRP) in two Municipalities and five Rural Municipalities of Nuwakot District since December 2015 with the major objective of improving the health status and psychosocial well-being of community members through post-disaster recovery. In total, 10 former VDCs of Nuwakot (Belkot, Charghare, Duipipal, Ghyangphedi, Likhu, Okharpauwa, Panchakanya, Ratmate, Suryamati and Thaprek) are the working areas of HSRP. One of the major objectives of the project is to improve adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH) status in the project areas. This includes, in addition to other activities, building hygienic environment at 32 basic and secondary public schools. The Project has constructed/is constructing Gender Friendly Toilets (GFT) at 14-targeted public schools. In addition to GFT construction, the Project is installing Safe Drinking Water Management System in 22 schools of project areas. HSRP is planning to provide HDPE pipe and then install Bio- sand filter in 7 additional needful schools and to provide materials for school compound fencing at two schools of project area. -

Terms of Reference Translator/Interpreter (HSRP, Nuwakot) Position: Translator/ Interpreter- Psychosocial Support Program (PSS) Location: Health System Recovery Project, Nuwakot Application deadline: 15th September 2017 Starting Date: 23rd October 2017 Duration Contract: One year with the possibility of extension Background: Good Neighbors International (GNI) is an international, non-profit humanitarian organization established in 1991 and working in 38 countries around the world. It is headquartered in South Korea. GNI has fundraising offices in the USA, Korea, and Japan, and an International Cooperation Office in Geneva. GNI currently implements 195 community development projects (CDPs), covering a variety of areas including rural development, income generation, health, water, sanitation and hygiene, child education, protection, disaster risk reduction as well as advocacy and network building to improve the impact of the projects. GNI Nepal has been working in Nepal since 2002 with the objective of improving lives of poor people, especially children through education, income generating activities, health services, child protection, disaster risk reduction, advocacy and network building. GNI Nepal has been implementing its activities in 20 districts. Health System Recovery Project is a three-year project funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and implemented by Good Neighbors International (GNI) Nepal in collaboration with other development agencies. Health System Recovery Project offers an integrated approach that simultaneously addresses the challenges of health services of health posts which were interrupted after the earthquake. 1 The Project aims at the recovery of health posts and the district hospital with complete resumption of services as per government protocol. It also aims at strengthening government health system at the community level. -

Following the devastating earthquake, land and water management has become one of the primary focus of the Government of Nepal as these resources are foundations of people’s livelihood and prosperity. The weakened, cracked, and destabilized slopes and surfaces due to the earthquake become even more susceptible to landslides that can be aggravated due to rainfall and inappropriate anthropogenic activities. Due to the devastating earthquake, 31 districts of Nepal out of 75 were affected with 14 being severely affected resulted huge loss of human life, property, and ecosystem services. These 14 districts were categorized as severely hit and crisis hit districts by the post disaster need assessment (PDNA) carried out by Government of Nepal. Nuwakot district is one of the severely hit district. In order to reduce vulnerability and/or threat of potential landslide disasters and protect local people, infrastructures, land and water resources from potential landslide disaster, identification of the most susceptible slopes as well as treatment and mitigation of the most critical landslides deemed essential. -

It boasts a large diversity of flora and fauna at genetic, species and ecosystem levels. Nepal has several critical sites and wetlands including the fragile Churia ecosystem. These critical sites and biodiversity are subjected to various anthropogenic and climatic threats. Several bilateral partners and donors are working in partnership with the Government of Nepal to conserve Nepal’s rich natural heritage. USAID funded Hariyo Ban Program, implemented by a consortium of four partners with WWF Nepal leading alongside CARE Nepal, FECOFUN and NTNC, is working towards reducing the adverse impacts of climate change, threats to biodiversity and improving livelihoods of the people in Nepal. -
