Leeds East Airport AIRSPACE CHANGE PROPOSAL IN SUPPORT OF A GNSS BASED APPROACH Introduction Leeds East Airport (LEA) is seeking to introduce a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) based approach to two of its runways. These changes are compatible with CAA policies regarding Performance Based Navigation (PBN) the design of Instrument Flight Procedures and the management of the airspace surrounding LEA. As we are proposing a change to the way that the airspace around us is currently used we have to follow a laid down procedure as mandated by the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority It is also to support the development of the airport into a Business and Executive Aviation hub for North Yorkshire as we continue to transition the airport from military to civil operation. What this is not about… So, this consultation is not about: • The future growth of Leeds East Airport • Restricting the use of airspace for other users by the establishment of more controlled airspace • Increasing the number of flights into Leeds East • Turning Leeds East into a new Leeds Bradford or Doncaster Sheffield type of airport. Update on progress We originally consulted stakeholders about this proposal in 2017 following which we made changes to the original design. Because of this we have decided to repeat the consultation in-order to update stakeholders regarding those changes. Faecal bacteria data from samples collected on the 24th August 2020 iWHARFE Improving water quality on the River Wharfe from Oughtershaw to the Ouse A citizen science project Faecal bacteria data from samples collected on the 24th August 2020 iWharfe is a citizen science project. It involves members of communities along the Wharfe valley, working together with the Environment Agency, Yorkshire Water and other agencies. It is funded by local donations and grants. The project was designed to provide a snapshot of water quality condi- tions along the entire length of the river on a single day and to raise awareness about water quality issues both for people and wildlife. Water samples were collected on the 24th August 2020. Here we report on results from samples analysed for faecal bacteria, the organisms in wastewater that cause gastro-intestinal illness. Executive Summary 1. The R. Wharfe “Big Health Check” on the 24th August 2020 involved five teams of citizen scien- tists taking water samples from 60 sites along the R. Wharfe at approximately the same time on the same day. 2. Although riverflow was relatively high, conditions were similar along the full length of the river. 3. Samples for faecal bacteria analysis were stored in cool boxes and hand-delivered to a collection point in Wakefield. They were analysed for E. coli and Intestinal Enterococci (IE) at ALS Ltd Cov- entry, an accredited microbiology laboratory, within 24 hours of sampling. 4. The results showed high concentrations of both E. coli and IE at sites between Buckden and Barden Bridge in Upper Wharfedale and at Beanlands Island in Ilkley, relatively low concentra- tions in Langstrothdale and in the stretch from Bolton Abbey to Ilkley Suspension Bridge, and var- iable concentrations downstream from Burley to the Ouse confluence at Cawood. -

CHURCH FENTON. REF: SHLAA2015. Q6 (DL) b. Any infrastructure/development in and around Church Fenton needs to take in to account the potential huge influence that HS2 and HS3 will have on the area. Historically communities built around railways do thrive and Church Fenton has the potential to develop into a thriving community with excellent transport links via the railway and major road networks all within easy reach. Add to this the new Leeds East Airport which is being developed at RAF Church Fenton and the area could very quickly grow at a vast rate. The knock on effect of this would be economic growth, employment and also the release of infrastructure funding to improve the area in line with the scale of the transport projects that look likely to take place. Such large scale projects taking place in a relatively small community could be viewed as excessive, however the potential for the area to benefit from these projects far outweigh the initial impact this would have on the area during the construction process. Schools, shops and other business would all benefit as people are drawn into the area because of the excellent road/rail/air links that would become available. d. The current policy of encouraging infill is fine on a relatively small scale (individual houses in character with the surrounding structures) however there is a growing trend to use small pockets of land within villages to develop to maximum capacity. This practice then creates problems from residents/neighbours as well as traffic/parking problems. Church Fenton in particular has the potential to keep the character of the village by extending into brownfield sites and potentially current greenbelt sites on the outskirts of the village. -

Hull History Centre: Papers of the Preston Family of Moreby U DDPR Papers of the Preston Family of Moreby 1331 - 1992 Biographical Background: The Preston family originated in Westmorland but were living in Holker by the seventeenth century. The second son of George Preston of Holker, Christopher Preston (b.1639) became a Leeds merchant. The family remained as merchants in Leeds through the rest of the seventeenth century and Christopher Preston's grandson, John Preston (d.1710) was an alderman and mayor of Leeds in 1692. Papers relating to the pew he purchased in Leeds church are in the collection. One of his daughters married Marmaduke Lawson (b.1685) of Moreby whose estates passed to the Preston family after he died without issue. The Preston family made good marriages in the early eighteenth century. William Preston (d.1772) married Ellen or Helen Farrer in 1721 and she brought a marriage portion of £600 and ultimately family estates as represented in the estate papers in the collection. His son, also William Preston (1723-1791), married Elizabeth Kilvington in 1756 and her marriage portion was £4000. When he inherited Moreby from Marmaduke Lawson he left Leeds to reside there. His brother, Henry Preston (1737-1808), stayed in Leeds and married Ann Fourness. Two of their sons died as young men in 1804 and their youngest son, also Henry Preston (1779-1837), married Maria Ann Crompton, ultimately succeeded to Moreby after the death of his uncle and became High Sheriff in 1834. His other uncle, Thomas Preston (1742- 1827) became vicar of Scalby and died childless, his estate passing then to Henry Preston's son, Thomas Henry Preston.
