2. Airports and getting to the city

Arturo Merino Benítez Airport (A. M. B.) is the arriving place for all the flights, nationally and internationally, with Santiago as arriving destiny. From here, there are multiple possibilities to get to the center of the city; among them are cabs, transfers and buses. You are free to choose the medium you find more suitable, but if you expect to concur into unnecessary expenses, we recommend the bus.

To take the bus, the departure is from the first level on the side of the door number 5 of the A. M. B Airport.; there you will find buses of the Tur-Bus company, which works since 05:00 until 00:00, local time. They have a cost of 1.600 CLP (3 dollars unless the currency has suffer any change, it is recommended to check the currency first), and they departure every 20 minutes. We recommend this company because their buses are comfortable and highly equipped (Air-conditioned system, recliner, WC, etc.)

The bus stops in three terminal stations in Santiago, which are Pajarito terminal, San Borja terminal and terminal. All of them are next to a subway station, which are Subway station Pajarito, Subway station Las Rejas, Subway station Universidad de Santiago (Line 1 or red). In any of these stations, you can get to the GP Venue and/or Judge Hostel.

3. Moving araund in the city

It is time to travel! You will need to use the city’s public transport. Nowadays, Santiago has a transportation system called Transantiago, and its payment form consists on a magnetic card; this card can be used either for buses or metro.

The Bip! card can be acquired in any of the Bip! Centers available in any subway station, the card has a cost of 1.500 CLP. The cards do not come with an initial balance to use the subway, so you have to charge additional money the moment you purchase it. The minimum Fig 2. Bip! Card. amount of charge is 1.000 CLP. Transantiago (Santiago bus system) has the advantage that passengers can make up to three combinations, buses and subway, for a fixed price depending the time of the day.

In order to the use the public transportation system (bus and subway), you have to pay the ticket first, for this, you have to use your card and put it next to the card reader, which will detect and discount the total price of the ticket. When this occurs, the machine will make a Bip sounds and a green light will lighten, this means that the ticket was successfully paid and you can continue. If two Bips sounds are listened and a red light lightens, it means that your card does not have the sufficient amount to pay for the ticket and it needs Fig 3. Ticket booth. to be charged.

It is advisable to plan your travel. On rush hours (between 07:00 and 08:59 hrs, and from 18:00 to 19:59 hrs.), the system can be overload which can result in longer periods of waiting and travels. On weekends, the fluency of subway wagons and buses decreases which can result in longer travel time.

The bus service of Transantiago works the 24 hours of the day (in the night the services is less frecuent). The subway station service works from 06:00 to 23:00 hrs. Fig 4. Subway Card system.

8.4 Insert Coin Bar – Irarrazabal 1920, Ñuñoa.

At the moment I heard about this place,

I think “How it’s possible that I have not thought about before?. Yes, Insert Coin is one of not-•‐thinked ideas: a theme bar about videogames. It looks like a regular bar, but it have a gamer stetic, some couches and LCD TV with videogaming consoles. You can go to drink a cocktail and play FIFA 15 with your friends, or take a gore inspiration and play a Mortal Kombat Tournament, o come back to your childhood and play

Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros. Fig 27. Insert Coin Bar

After this description, you can ask: What’s different in comparison of hanging out with friends in my house?. The answer is the Insert Coin’s cocktail menu. You can drink a Sub-•‐Zero, improve your health with a HP, or you can drink a Donkey Kong, the favourite and house’s specialty. But undoubtedly, the most striking drink is ”Nukem”, consist in nuclear wastes in a flaming barrel (yes, it’s real). And if you’re hungry, you can grab some Sonic Rings or Chocobo Wings.

Sometimes, you can lose the sensation that you are in a bar, and you really feel in your living room with your friends, that sensation causes that time it’s passing and you don’t realize that. You come back automatically to your childhood. Maybe it’s a little bit alienating, maybe we have to grown up some times, or maybe not. But It's definitely a place worth experiencing.

9. Food and Beverages

Buying food and beverages in Santiago is very advisable, whether you are buying at a supermarket, liquor stores, butcheries, fast food restaurants, and etcetera. The only advice we have for you is: DO NOT buy food from the people at the streets. Although at times is pretty tempting because of being very cheap, they do not guarantee an appropriate hygiene, resulting in intoxications.

If you want to eat well, we recommend the following places:

9.1 Central Market

If you want to taste typical gastronomy from Chile in a National Monument, this is the place. Quoting its web page: “This place is known for offering the most typical and traditional dishes, seafood and river nearby local fruits, an offer related to the quality, freshness and seasonality of food. Here definitely converge people from different walks of life, showing the peculiar form of the Chilean mischief. Definitely a place worth visiting whether for everyday shopping, learning more about our culture, gastronomy, typical items, or just to walk around and share.” Fig 28. Central Market

Central Market offers a lot of different dishes related to fish, shellfish, and meat. It is an ideal place to know the local gastronomy and also being very cheap at times. Central Market is located at the metro station “Puente Cal y Canto” (Metro Line 2).

10. Useful Tips.

In general, Santiago is a safe city, mostly during daylight and in the neighbourhoods where you will be around. However, you should be around carefree by any reason, especially at night, when the chances of having a bad time raise in an unfortunate way. Because of that, here are some useful tips:

 Do not go around on your own, try to do it in groups.  Do not count money on the Street.  Try to always plan your route beforehand.  Metro stations close around 11:00pm, so it is advisable to make all your tours before that time. If you are still on the street after that hour, try to find a taxi.  If you are not thinking on taking any kind of bus from Transantiago, because you do not want to visit remote places (the ones which take long time walking to them), and you are going to take only the metro, then do not buy the Bip! Card. You will earn money, and metro stations sell both cards and tickets.  Print this guide, it might be useful if you forget any detail once you have arrived to Chile.  If you arrive after 10:00pm at the airport, the safest bet is to use a transfer service to get to the staff hotel, for it is much cheaper than taking a taxi.
