CN has leased GP40-2LW's 9541, 9576, and 9590 to the HUDSON BAY RAILWAY, for summer grain service.

CN has sold 60 units from their auction sale in May, with 10 units remaining unsold. Here is the complete breakdown of the locomotive dispositions:

• NRE has purchased the following: CN GP9RM`s 4010, 4015, 4024, 4027, 4030, 4031, and 4034. CN SD40 5078 (renumbered NREX 5232) , 5233, DWP SD40's 5902, 5904, 5905; GTW SD40's 5912, 5922, 5925, and 5928; SAR C39-8 7483, 7488; SAR (RFRX) B23-7`s 4203, 4205, WC SD45's 6594, 7507, 7526, 7527, 7530, 7554, and NREX (ex-WC) SD45's 6416, 6417, 6418, 6419, and 6420, all ex-WC numbers 7514, 7551, 7638, 7498, and 7532.

• PROGRESS RAIL has purchased the following: CN GMD1's 1063, 1078, 1082, BCOL B36-7's 3607, 3609, SAR C39-8 7486, WC SD45's 6497, 6529, 7515, 7522, and 7531. The five WC SD45's will be scrapped at JABCO Industries, in Chicago Heights, IL.

• CYCLE SYSTEMS has purchased the following: WC SD45's 6588, 7501, 7502, 7506, 7512, 7519, and 7524. These units will likely all be scrapped as well.

In mid-June, CN announced it will acquire 25 locomotives from EMCC and 40 new fuel-efficient, high-horsepower locomotives from GE in 2007 and 2008, in addition to the 65 locomotives already on order for delivery this year. CN's latest order is for 40 ES44DC locomotives from GE Transportation Rail, a unit of General Electric Company, and 25 SD70M-2 locomotives from Electro-Motive , Inc. The GE units will be delivered between December 2007 and February 2008, with the GM's arriving in August 2008. CN previously ordered 50 SD70M-2s for delivery between August and October 2007, and 15 ES44DC units to come in November of this year. The SD70M-2s produce 4,300 horsepower, and the ES44DCs produce 4,400 horsepower and will permit CN to retire 145 of their older locomotives, and will likely begin re-gearing and de-rating older SD40-2's to SD38-2's for yard duty, to replace their aging GP9RM roster. The new locomotive orders are part of a major fuel conservation program by CN, which spent almost C$900 million on fuel in 2006. The 65 locomotives CN previously ordered for this year will be largely used to accommodate growth in traffic from the new Port of Prince Rupert Container Terminal, scheduled to start operations in October of this year. As anticipated, all of the 130 new locomotives CN has ordered for 2007 and 2008 will be equipped with DPU (distributed power capability), which allows for locomotives to be placed in the middle of a freight train and to be remotely controlled from the lead locomotive.

Ken Lonovitch caught CN DASH 8-40CM 2415 at the UP Yard Center, in Dolton, IL, on June 21st, 2007. The unit has obviously been repainted, as it was delivered to CN in the late 1980’s in the sergeant stripes scheme. It was involved in a derailment in BC over a decade ago and the stayed at the derailment seen for many months after. Sometime in the late 1990’s it was finally moved to a shop (possibly Pointe-St- Charles in Montreal) and was repainted in this current scheme. http://csxchicago.gotdns.com:6003/CN_Trains/SmallPicsRoll65/0004628-R1-006-1A.jpg

BCOL 4616 had just completed repaying H-P-H on the UNION PACIFIC last month, and Ken caught it at Yard Center, Dolton, Il, June 16, 2007. (Photo's by Ken Lanovich) http://csxchicago.gotdns.com:6003/CN_Trains/SmallPicsRoll64/0002203-R1-059-28.jpg

In June, CN repainted SD40-2(W) 5283 into the current CN livery at their Centralia, Illinois paint shop.

On June 26th, CN train M35951 had the following consist: CN C44-9W 2516, WC GP38-2 2001, and WC GP38-2 2004 far from home enroute to Prince George, BC on CN's Fraser Sub. Both of these WISCONSIN CENTRAL locomotives were coming off repairs in .

CN GP9RM 4028, built as CNR GP9 4526, 50 years ago, has been chosen for a life extension. CN 4028 is receiving a Transcona rebuilt, 16-567-E, equipped with 645 power assemblies. Work is being done at NRE Dixmoor, since Transcona no longer repairs locomotives. Transcona now only rebuilds locomotive parts, but does not repair locomotives.

CP has sold retired SD40-2’s 5603, and 5647 to PROGRESS RAIL. The units are moving to Birmingham, AL via Coutts, AB and BNSF.

On May 23rd, CP tested out their new FP9Au's 4106 and 4107 on a local freight, ex- Calgary. Further inspection has revealed these units have ground relay and wiring problems, and they have returned to PROGRESS RAIL in Winnipeg.. The units have had the CPR beaver crests applied to their noses in Calgary. The units were only in Winnipeg For about 10 days and arrived back in Alyth on July 21stt. Fresh from the shop shot taken a few months back. http://www.mountainrailway.com/Roster%20Archive/CP%204100/CP%204107.htm

CP GP9 1592 (retired May 11th) has been sold to BRANDT INDUSTRIES in Regina, and it may be stripped and rebuilt into a GENSET locomotive demonstrator. The geep arrived in Regina June 20 th in faded CP RAIL SYSTEM paint, with bent front and engineer's side handrails, a bent frame, no prime mover, and missing the rear number boards.

STLH SD40-2 5448 (a former NRE unit painted for years in gray primer), was sent to MANDAK METALS in Selkirk, Man, in May 2005 for scrap. It had been reported retired in CRO in 2005, but we were unaware it had been scrapped as well http://www.trainweb.org/galt-stn/cproster/locomotive/5400s/cp5448%20as%20stlh5448.htm

The "Empress of Agincourt" was originally designated as an RSD-15M, CP RAIL 8921 was an MLW demonstrator that carried the full colours of the railroad it was demonstrating on. It worked as CP 7007 in the Tuscan red and grey livery (from 1957-05-24 to 1957-12-02), then went to CN as CN 3899(from 1957-12-19 to 1958-03- 24), and finally tried out as PGE 624 (from 1958-04-01 to 1958-10-05). It was repainted and sold to CP, and renumbered CP 8921 (1959-09-14) where it later operated as a transfer out of Toronto hence "Empress of Agincourt". In the 1980's it was reassigned to Montreal where it was then rebuilt, and chop-nosed at the CP Angus Shop in 1988, and eventually tagged "The Duke of St-Luc" as it regularly operated as the lead unit on the transfer. It did venture across Canada a few times and did trips on the D&H to Binghamton and Buffalo. Retired in May, 1995, it was cannibalized a few months later to keep C424's in service, and finally donated to the ELGIN COUNTY RAILWAY MUSEUM in St. Thomas, ON in January 1997. I rode the trailing SD40-2 of the train that hauled her out of St- Luc yard for the last time. Rob Stern provided these images of freshly painted ex- CP RAIL RSD-17 8921 with a fresh coat of action red at the ELGIN COUNTY RAILWAY MUSEUM. http://ca.geocities.com/[email protected]/23-06-07_1124.jpg http://ca.geocities.com/[email protected]/23-06-07_1703.jpg And with full CP RAIL lettering ... like the "Phoenix" returning! http://www.ecrm5700.org/images/8921-a.JPG http://www.ecrm5700.org/images/8921-b.JPG http://www.ecrm5700.org/images/8921-c.JPG

In June, ICE purchased eight units from NRE Silvis shops, all ex-CP SD40-2's with new heaters, fridges, and heated windows installed and are now going to WSOR - Horicon for paint and DM&E - Huron for further modifications . The numbers are: 6210- ex 5423 6211- ex 5424 6212- ex 5534, (Actually is ex-5678 due to NRE's error in re-numbering) 6213- ex 5670 6214- ex 5682 6215- ex 5744 6216- ex 5774 6217- ex 5809.

The CPR "Empress" 4-6-4 Hudson #2816, operated a special excursion to Vancouver, BC from Calgary, AB on July 2nd and returned on July 13 th with a train made up of mostly British Rail Enthusiasts, (and God bless them ... there are many!) Here was the consist: CPR Hudson 2816, Aux. Tender, Tool Car, Power Car, Dominion Coach, Smokey Smith, H.D. Bowen, and Shoreview Point. The trip operated without a diesel.

A CP track geometry train was making its annual trek eastward over the MM&A and the NBSR. It was photographed crossing the Richelieu River on the MMA Sub at St-Jean and on the Sherbrooke sub in late June. http://railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=191518

On July 21st, CP held a 50+ anniversary open house to employees, their families and friends at the St-Luc Diesel Shop in Montreal. Two ex-CP RAIL locomotives, C424 4237 and M630 4563, were moved up from EXPORAIL in Delson and the freshly painted CP RAIL M630 was started up to the delight of fans! A freshly painted CP GP38-2, ES44AC and newer equipment from AMT was also on display. The West Island Live Steamers, HO scale CP modules and photo's and slide shows with images of St-Luc's rich history and a delicious free buffet completed the day. To mark the event CP handed out a beautiful Shop catalog and CP baseball caps to the retirees and visitors. This event was cancelled two months ago due to the CP strike which is now over.

Re- Ex-CPR Baldwin #7069: http://www.steamwhistle.ca/enews/062807/ The proposed museum at the Toronto Roundhouse may be in trouble. The developers hired by the city of Toronto want to turn the roundhouse into a Leon's furniture store. Three stalls of the roundhouse would be retained for a smaller sized roundhouse museum and the owners of the ex CP Baldwin locomotive currently stored within the roundhouse have been told to move it or it will be scrapped. It was also reported that the locomotive is owned by two brothers the Listers, who are ex CPR locomotive engineers, who, by the way, can't afford to have the locomotive moved. Effective June 5th, ONTARIO NORTHLAND RAILWAY (ONR) introduced significant changes to its passenger train services offered between Cochrane and Moosonee, Ontario. The Little Bear and Polar Bear Express trains will be combined and only one passenger train will operate between the two communities. Also, a separate freight train service will be introduced. The government of Ontario on March 23 rd first announced the funding for the service. The new passenger train will be a flag stop train, hauling passengers and their personal equipment that will include, baggage, vehicles, canoes, ATV's, snowmobiles as well as express freight. has taken over the former GO facility at the Junction which ONTARIO SOUTHLAND RAILWAY will use for general purposes. Lack of a road (except for private CP crossing) prevents it being used for customers such as a transload. OSR is busy with all freight especially the new PDI Liquid Terminal (old Hart Chemical, later Huntsman) switching 4 days a week 2-3 hours at a time. Place is full. New siding has switch at north end and is soon to get tamped and go into use. This allows running around train and ability to switch PDI in either direction. Previously only possible to switch southbound. Possible 1 or 2 new sidings to go on east side of the main line for further PDI liquid storage. Tillsonburg line is slow and likely to remain so until salt starts to flow in the Fall. Future Transfer expanding on ST&E. Salford to get another track added account storage of units and box car removed from Tillsonburg. Salford shop work: TH&B 51 (NW2u) nearing ready for service, getting ditch lights etc. will operate on Tillsonburg line when ready and later may go to GJR for new yard job. 378 (GP7) to be painted and return to service before long. 175 (GP9) to get p/a replaced and return to service as spare at Clarkson. 503 (RS23) still out-of-service with a B/O main generator.

COMMUTER LINES AND

AMT (Agence Metropolitaine de Transport) June 2007 report :

AMT's orders new locomotives : AMT intends to place a joint order for locomotives with the NEW JERSEY TRANSIT as a means of cost cutting. This marks the first time AMT is partnering with a body outside Canada on an order. An advertisement appeared in a Montreal daily newspaper and called for proposals from firms to design, build, test and deliver dual-mode locomotives that can operate on diesel fuel or electricity. The Montreal commuter agency is looking at purchasing five locomotives while the New Jersey agency requires 26. The deadline for proposals was on July 20. The agency's locomotives are planned for a new $300- million, 51-kilometre commuter line that will run between downtown Montreal and Mascouche, with stations on the Montreal Island and in Repentigny. The line is expected to be in service by 2010.

VIA Rail Canada: The rumor mill was incorrect: CRO has learned that VIA FP9au 6300 has not been sold, and is not B/O as had been circulating last month on the internet. It may be for sale, but the covered wagon is still being utilized as a Shop Switcher at the VIA Vancouver Maintenance Center. VIA had also been contemplating utilizing the 6300 for a possible charter in the Vancouver area. Photo of VIA FP9Au 6300: http://www.cnrphotos.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=14474

On July 14th, VIA ran a Montreal Alouettes Football special from Montreal to Aldershot and return with six LRCC cars and two locomotives an F40PH and a P42DC. The train carried players staff and of course, the cheerleaders! The Montreal Alouettes won, defeating the Hamilton Tiger cats 29-20.

Will, Re-Modeling Olympic ES44AC's: Note that the first batch of ES44's (8700-8759) have a side ladder on the long hood on the conductors side. Also, these are fitted with the Steerable trucks. The rest of the CP order (8760-8859) don't have this ladder, and have Hi-Ad trucks. So in short, the model Tower 55 announced can't be used for the CP 8858-8859 Olympic units, unless you changes the details mentioned and swap out trucks.
