    JANUARY-MARCH 2013 European Partnership with Municipalities The project funded through EU PROGRES enabled medical examinations to the women from the most vulnerable groups in Lebane. When medical doctor appears at your door, and at the time you do not have money for basic needs, not even for medication, it clearly shows what a great impact is achieved. Biljana Nikolić Centre for Democratic Activities Lebane Andrew Headey from the Delegation of EU and Branko Budimir from the Serbian European Integration Office mark the completion of project equipping the Kindergarten in Ivanjica Towns and Municipalities from South and South West Serbia in the “Europe, That Is You” Campaign Representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, the Serbian European Integration Office and the European Partnership with Municipalities Programme - EU PROGRES informed mayors and presidents of municipalities in South and South West Serbia that the level of donations to be granted in the coming period depended on their capabilities, and that it was necessary therefore to upgrade the capacities of the administrations to offer the best response to EU integration challenges. Mayors and presidents of municipalities from 25 towns and municipalities gathered during a working lunch, on the occasion of launching the “Europe, That Is You“ campaign. > whole article EU PROGRES Activities to Go On Until March 2014 European Partnership with Municipalities Programme EU PROGES, implemented in 25 municipalities in South and Southwest Serbia with financial support from the European Union and the Government of Switzerland, will continue with implementation until March 2014 as announced at the tenth Programme Steering Committee Meeting.

    Social Inclusion Sector Public Call (01-2021) Support to LSGs in Implementaon of Social Protecon Services as Adequate Response to Covid-19 Consequences 1. Background The “Enhancing Good Governance and Social Inclusion at Local Level in Serbia” Programme (Swiss PRO) will improve local capacies primarily in 99 local self-governments in Šumadija and Western Serbia, and South and 1 Eastern Serbia regions to apply good governance (GG) principles in local policies and regulaons and thus increase social cohesion. The Government of Switzerland has allocated USD 6.9 million for the Programme, with the United Naons Office for Project Services (UNOPS) responsible for its implementaon, in cooperaon with the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalies (SCTM). The Programme has to fulfil two main goals: 1. To contribute to the enhancement of organisaons and officials’ knowledge and skills 2. To posively change the scope and quality of public services rendered to cizens, especially to those from vulnerable groups. Both goals will lead to improved regulaons, instuonal, technical and human capacies for the enhancement of e-services. In addion, capacity building will be provided to local civil society organisaons (CSOs) as well as instuons dealing with social inclusion and gender equality. Overall, this will contribute to the improved rule of law at the local level, increased accountability, transparency and efficiency and effecveness of the local governments (LSGs), and ulmately improvement of quality of life of cizens, especially vulnerable cizens. The Programme will coordinate its acvies with the key line-naonal-level instuons while observing the naonal strategies, laws and relevant development documents, which will contribute to sustainability, ensure naonal ownership and develop naonal capacies.

Biologica Nyssana, 7 (1), September 2016: 19-29. The results of a study using epiphytic lichens as bioindicators, on teritory of three different urban areas in the Southern Serbia (Leskovac, Vlasotince, Lebane) are reported. The analysis of samples from 142 investigated points indicates presence of 53 lichens taxa. The aim of the study is to present the difference in air quality over a certain time interval. Using the Index of Atmospheric Purity- IAP values, it has been found that there are different air pollution zones: „normal“ zone, „struggle“ zone and „lichen desert“ zone. The comparison of the results obtained in 2002 and 2013 in Vlasotince indicates the presence of „normal“ zone in 2002 but, in 2013, the „normal zone“ area was completely replaced with the „struggle“ zone. In Leskovac, unlike the previous studies, a slightly narrowing “lichen desert" zone is noticed.

    SERBIA 2014 INTERNATIONAL RELIGIOUS FREEDOM REPORT Executive Summary The constitution forbids establishment of a state religion, guarantees equality of all religious groups, and prohibits incitement of religious hatred. Many laws provide special treatment for the seven “traditional” religious groups. Some nontraditional religious groups stated the implementation of laws by state authorities was discriminatory. The Serbian Orthodox Church, in particular, continued to receive preferential treatment from the government, while many minority religious groups encountered difficulty registering. The government continued restitution of religious properties seized in 1945 or later, returning land in Novi Sad, Subotica, Sremska Mitrovica, and elsewhere. Minority religious groups reported incidents of hate speech, negative media reporting, and physical violence. Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) continued to criticize the authorities for slow or inadequate response to incidents of vandalism of places of worship and cemeteries of minority religious groups. Extremist youth groups and internet forums continued to promote anti-Semitism. U.S. embassy representatives met with members of the government to advocate changes to the discriminatory portions of the law on registration of religious groups. Embassy representatives met with representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Jewish community, Protestant organizations, leaders of the Muslim communities, and a wide range of religious minority groups to discuss the concerns of “nontraditional” and minority religious groups and to encourage interfaith dialogue. Embassy officials reached out to representatives of the divided Islamic community to encourage a resolution of its differences. Section I. Religious Demography The U.S. government estimates the population at 7.2 million (July 2014 estimate). Approximately 85 percent of the population is Serbian Orthodox, 5 percent Roman Catholic, 3 percent Muslim, and 1 percent Protestant.
