Olympiacos CFP V Rosenborg BK
Olympiacos CFP v Rosenborg BK Georgios Karaiskakis - Athens Tuesday, 13 September 2005 - 20:45 (CET) Group stage - Group F - Matchday 1 Match officials Referee Stefano Farina (ITA) Assistant referees Andrea Consolo (ITA), Massimo Biasutto (ITA) Fourth official Enrico Rocchi (ITA) UEFA delegate Barry Taylor (ENG) Match preview Olympiacos set greater goals Having gone tantalisingly close to reaching the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League last season, Olympiacos CFP hope to "show their true colours" this term and progress from the group stage for only the second time in ten attempts. 'Early goal' The Greek champions begin their Group F campaign at home to Rosenborg BK on Tuesday with coach Trond Sollied calling on his side to make an early impression ahead of likely tougher tests against Real Madrid CF and Olympique Lyonnais. "There are 18 points up for grabs in the group and we must take as many as we can from each match," said Sollied, a former Rosenborg coach and player whose last experience of Champions League football was at the helm of Club Brugge KV. "If we can get an early goal [on Tuesday] it will certainly boost our chances." False dawns Olympiacos are well used to false dawns in Europe, although they were unlucky not to advance with their tally of ten points in Group A last season. At half-time on Matchday 6 they led Liverpool FC 1-0, and were still on course for the first knockout round at 2-1 down with four minutes to play when Steven Gerrard struck a stunning winner to propel the English team towards the next stage (and eventual glory) and the Piraeus outfit into the UEFA Cup. -

001-016 Introduction
Introduction FC Barcelona celebrate victory at the Stade de France. The 2006 UEFA Champions League victors have no problems with the rulings on ‘locally-trained’ players introduced for the 2006/07 season. PHOTO: FOTO-NET Season 2006 – 2007 Contents Season President’s Message 3 2006 / 2007 1st Qualifying Round Results 4 2nd Qualifying Round Results 6 3rd Qualifying Round Results 8 Group Stage 10 Regulations 14 2 President’s Message The fifteenth season of UEFA Champions League football is a special one. A year ago, we were celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first-ever final in the old ‘European Cup’ and using that as a good excuse for some nostalgic reading of the history books. This season, the emphasis is well and truly on the future - the future of the game and the future of the people who play it. I’m referring to the new chapter in the regulations of this competition, where four places in each squad are earmarked for ‘locally-trained players’. You might not think that this is a major change. But, as time goes by, more places will be reserved for them and the 2006/07 campaign marks the first step in what I think is a very right direction. It was a subject we had discussed in great depth within our Executive Committee, within all sectors of the game and with people in political circles. And it is a decision which has my wholehearted support. Fortunately, I am by no means the only one who believes that talent needs to be developed and not just bought. -

Rosenborg BK V Olympiacos CFP PRESS KIT
Rosenborg BK v Olympiacos CFP PRESS KIT Lerkendal, Trondheim Wednesday, 23 November 2005 - 20:45 CET Group F - Matchday 5 Despite Olympique Lyonnais and Real Madrid CF having qualified for the knockout stages of the competition, the meeting between Rosenborg BK and Olympiacos CFP still has plenty of significance. The side finishing third in the group continues in European football in the UEFA Cup, and both clubs are still firmly in contention. Norwegian edge •Rosenborg will hope to keep their season going after missing out on a 14th consecutive domestic title last month. The Norwegian club are the favourites to reach the UEFA Cup, by virtue of their 3-1 win at Olympiacos on the opening day of this season's competition, and the fact the Greek side have yet to record a point following their first four games. •On Matchday 1, Rosenborg pulled off a surprise win against an Olympiacos team with a useful home record and who had taken the lead when Alejandro Lago put through his own net. Per Ciljan Skjelbred and Øyvind Storflor replied for the Norwegian side, either side of a Dimitrios Mavrogenidis own goal. Previous encounter •The clubs were drawn together in one previous UEFA Champions League season, in the 1997/98 tournament. On Matchday 2, the teams met in Norway, with Rosenborg recording a resounding 5-1 win. The Norewegian side then drew 2-2 in the return match, but their group tally of eleven points was not enough to see them progress. •Roar Strand, still in the Rosenborg squad, was one of the stars of the 5-1 win with two first-half goals, while striker Harald Brattbakk was also on target twice, and striking partner Sigurd Rushfeldt completed the scoring.
