Accommodation at The Lime Tree Estimated driving time/distance: 20 minutes, 10 kilometers Meal included: Nil Day 2 : KUCHING-SEMENGGOH NATURE RESERVE-BATANG AI (B/L/D) 08:00 hours Start the day with a visit of Semenggoh Nature Reserve to watch the semi-wild orang utans, which roam freely in the rainforest, return to the centre at feeding time (no guarantee of orang utan sightings). After this amazing experience, proceed to meet the natives of Borneo and spend an unforgettable night with them in the longhouse. The journey takes you 290 km into beautiful countryside, with scenic stops along the way. Upon arrival at the Batang Ai lake, board native longboats to head across the lake and up the river to reach an Iban longhouse. On arrival at the longhouse, you will be taken on a tour of the longhouse to meet the natives and their families. After dinner, join the Iban activities in the longhouse. Don't leave without tasting their rice wine "tuak". Upon arrival in Mulu, you will be met and transferred to Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa. 14:00 hours (depending on the flight arrival time) After lunch, you will take an approximately 45 minutes' walk along a wooden plank path through riverine and lowland limestone forest leading to Lang's Cave. Explore this beautiful cave with its stunning stalagmites and stalactites, followed by the Deer Cave with the largest cave passage in the world. This cave also houses an estimated 2 to 3 million bats, so be prepared for the stinging smell of guano. After the exploration of these two amazing caves, you will proceed to the bat observatory platform. If weather permits you will witness the bats emerging from the cave in spiralling black streams. Walk back to the park's headquarters the same way and return to your accommodation. After exploration of Wind Cave, take a 10 minutes' walk to reach the Clearwater Springs. After a short tea break, climb the 200 steps up to the cave entrance and explore Clearwater Cave. A simple picnic lunch will be served next to the Clearwater Springs, after which you can enjoy a swim in the beautiful stream outside the cave. Return to your accommodation. The rest of the day is free at your own leisure to enjoy the beautiful natural environment or to sign up for one of the many other activities (not included) offered by the national park, such as a canopy walk or a night walk.     governance, POSITION PAPER MALAYSIA’S AIRPORTS INDUSTRY STRUCTURE DECEMBER 2019 This Position Paper outlines the Malaysian Aviation Commission’s position on an optimal structure for Malaysia’s commercial airports sector. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The performance of the airports industry in Malaysia is influenced by the behaviour and decisions of the Government of Malaysia (GoM). This is due to the latter’s overlapping roles in the industry as policymaker, shareholder, and provider of capex funding. The structure and implementation of the Operating Agreement (OA) between the GoM and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), operator of more than 90% of airports in Malaysia, is emblematic of these overlapping roles. The OA underscores the fact that the airports are GoM’s assets. Meanwhile, Khazanah Nasional Berhad (KNB), a sovereign wealth fund, is a major shareholder in MAHB, which is also a publicly listed company. The GoM also determines the overall policy direction for the development of the airports industry. Therefore, there needs to be a more transparent and structured capex funding model for airports in Malaysia, as well as, to mitigate conflicts of interest which may arise from the GoM’s overlapping roles in relation to the Malaysian airports industry. The industry also faces issues arising from MAHB’s limited commercial behaviour which affects service quality to airlines and passengers. The recent failure of the Total Airports Management System is one of many examples of these. These issues and the lack of clarity in the airport funding model have adversely affected the competitiveness and attractiveness of the airports industry in particular, and the aviation sector in general.
