Day 1 : KUCHING (-/-/-)

Arrival in Kuching, the capital of Sarawak. Rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2 : KUCHING-SEMENGGOH NATURE RESERVE-BATANG AI (B/L/D)

08:00 hours Start the day with a visit of Semenggoh Nature Reserve to watch the semi-wild orang utans, which roam freely in the rainforest, return to the centre at feeding time (no guarantee of orang utan sightings). After this amazing experience, proceed to meet the natives of Borneo and spend an unforgettable night with them in the longhouse. The journey takes you 290 km into beautiful countryside, with scenic stops along the way. Upon arrival at the Batang Ai lake, board native longboats to head across the lake and up the river to reach an Iban longhouse. On arrival at the longhouse, you will be taken on a tour of the longhouse to meet the natives and their families. After dinner, join the Iban activities in the longhouse. Don't leave without tasting their rice wine "tuak".

Note: 1) Currently due to the under constructions of Pan Borneo Highway, the road journey from Kuching to Lemanak river and/or Batang Ai Lake might take longer than expected. 2) Basic accommodation in the communal hall of the longhouse with mosquito net, mattress, pillows and blanket provided.

Day 3 : BATANG AI-KUCHING (B/L/-)

The cockerels will sing loud and clear for you to wake up in the morning. After breakfast, join the Ibans in a blowpipe demonstration to show off their skill. Then return to your hotel in Kuching, with lunch en-route.

Day 4 : KUCHING-MULU NATIONAL PARK (B/L/-)

Transfer to airport for your flight to Mulu (airfare not included). Upon arrival in Mulu, you will be met and transferred to Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa. 14:00 hours (depending on the flight arrival time) After lunch, you will take an approximately 45 minutes' walk along a wooden plank path through riverine and lowland limestone forest leading to Lang's Cave. Explore this beautiful cave with its stunning stalagmites and stalactites, followed by the Deer Cave with the largest cave passage in the world. This cave also houses an estimated 2 to 3 million bats, so be prepared for the stinging smell of guano. After the exploration of these two amazing caves, you will proceed to the bat observatory platform. If weather permits you will witness the bats emerging from the cave in spiralling black streams. Walk back to the park's headquarters the same way and return to your accommodation.

Day 5 : MULU NATIONAL PARK (B/L/-)

This morning, after breakfast, take a boat ride (30 to 40 minutes) to reach Wind Cave, with a stopover at a Penan village. After exploration of Wind Cave, take a 10 minutes' walk to reach the Clearwater Springs. After a short tea break, climb the 200 steps up to the cave entrance and explore Clearwater Cave. A simple picnic lunch will be served next to the Clearwater Springs, after which you can enjoy a swim in the beautiful stream outside the cave. Return to your accommodation. The rest of the day is free at your own leisure to enjoy the beautiful natural environment or to sign up for one of the many other activities (not included) offered by the national park, such as a canopy walk or a night walk. If you were not lucky to see the bats the evening before or simply want to witness the natural spectacle one more time, you may also walk on your own to the bat observatory to try your luck again.

Day 7 : KINABALU PARK TOUR (B/L/-)

Depart northbound on a two-hour drive to Kinabalu Park, elevation 5,000 feet above sea level. Opportunities to see native villages, handicraft stalls, rubber plantations and fruit orchards along the route. Upon reaching the Park, join a trail walk and visit the Mountain Garden. Learn about the rich flora and fauna at the Park's Exhibit Centre. Lunch is included. Late afternoon, depart for Kota Kinabalu.
