MACEDONIA th th 27 - 28 October 2013 www.bargainbirdingclub.com “Value for money bird watching trips for birders on a budget” Introduction: Macedonia is a geographical and historical region of Greece in the southern Balkans (not to be confused with the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia just over the border). Macedonia is the largest and second most populous Greek region and alongside Thrace, Thessaly and Epirus, is collectively referred to as ‘Northern Greece’ (hence the title of the book by Steve Mills ‘Birding in Northern Greece’, which covers this area in great detail.) The region incorporates most of the territories of ancient Macedon, a kingdom ruled by the Argeads whose most celebrated members were Alexander the Great and his father Philip II. We concentrated our birding on Lake Kerkini in the north of the region near the Bulgarian border, and Angelohori Lagoon, just south of Thessaloniki. Itinerary: Sunday 27th October 2013 Fly London Gatwick toThessaloniki with easyJet Pick up hire car and self-bird Angelohori Lagoon and saltpans o/n Holiday Inn, Thessaloniki Mon. 28th Oct. 2013: Drive to Kerkini to meet guide Guided birding around Lake Kerkini o/n Holiday Inn, Thessaloniki Tues. 29th Oct. 2013: Drive to Kerkini to meet guide Guided birding in foothills of Kerkini (Belles) Mountains o/n Holiday Inn, Thessaloniki Wed. 30th Oct. 2013: Early morning repeat visit to Angelohori Lagoon Drop off hire car Fly Thessaloniki to London Gatwick with easyJet “Value for money bird watching trips for birders on a budget” Sunday 27th October 2013 An early (06.55hrs) Easyjet flight from Gatwick saw us land at Thessaloniki at 12.10pm local time.

  • The Planthopper Genus Trypetimorpha: Systematics and Phylogenetic Relationships (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Tropiduchidae)
JOURNAL OF NATURAL HISTORY, 1993, 27, 609-629 The planthopper genus Trypetimorpha: systematics and phylogenetic relationships (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Tropiduchidae) J. HUANG and T. BOURGOINt* Pomological Institute of Shijiazhuang, Agricultural and Forestry Academy of Sciences of Hebei, 5-7 Street, 050061, Shijiazhuang, China t Mus#um National d'Histoire Naturelle, Laboratoire d'Entomologie, 45 rue Buffon, F-75005, Paris, France (Accepted 28 January 1993) The genus Trypetimorpha is revised with the eight currently recognized species described or re-described. Four new species are described and seven new synonymies are proposed. Within Trypetimorphini sensu Fennah (1982), evidences for the monophyly of each genus are selected, but Caffrommatissus is transferred to the Cixiopsini. Monophyly of Trypetimorphini, restricted to Trypetimorpha and Ommatissus, is discussed. A key is given for the following Trypetimorpha species: (1) T. fenestrata Costa ( = T. pilosa Horvfith, syn. n.); (2) T. biermani Dammerman (= T. biermani Muir, syn. n.; = T. china (Wu), syn. n.; = T. formosana Ishihara, syn. n.); (3) T. japonica Ishihara ( = T. koreana Kwon and Lee, syn. n.); (4) T. canopus Linnavuori; (5) T. occidentalis, sp. n. (= T. fenestrata Costa, sensu Horvfith); (6) T. aschei, sp. n., from New Guinea; (7) T. wilsoni, sp. n., from Australia; (8) T. sizhengi, sp. n., from China and Viet Nam. Study of the type specimens of T. fenestrata Costa shows that they are different from T. fenestrata sensu Horvfith as usually accepted, which one is redescribed here as T. occidentalis. KEYWORDS: Hemiptera, Fulgoromorpha, Tropiduchidae, Trypetimorpha, Ommatissus, Cafrommatissus, systematics, phylogeny. Downloaded by [University of Delaware] at 10:13 13 January 2016 Introduction This revision arose as the result of a study of the Chinese Fulgoromorpha of economic importance (Chou et al., 1985) and the opportunity for J.H.

While the most advanced technology has been used to photograph and reproduce this document, the quality of the reproduction is heavily dependent upon the quality of the material submitted. The following explanation of techniques is provided to help clarify markings or notations which may appear on this reproduction. 1. The sign or "target" for pages apparently lacking from the document photographed is "Missing Page(s)". If it was possible to obtain the missing page(s) or section, they are spliced into the film along with adjacent pages. This may have necessitated cutting through an image and duplicating adjacent pages to assure complete continuity. 2. When an image on the film is obliterated with a round black mark, it is an indication of either blurred copy because of movement during exposure, duplicate copy, or copyrighted materials that should not have been filmed. For blurred pages, a good image of the page can be found in the adjacent frame.

These include translation, lacunae, and idioms. Historical attempts at devising classifications of the world, or ‘ontologies’, are examined. In the light of differences between these attempts, together with the problems posed by translations, lacunae, and idioms, the idea of a universal Real Character is rejected in favour of a focused or tuned version, in which the language and culture of the recipient of a message are taken into account. The system of character composition is retained, but icons containing single characters may be replaced by others with supplementary elements which are necessary for Ian Maun University of Exeter, St. Luke’s Campus, EXETER EX1 2LU, United Kingdom Email: [email protected] Received 8 August, 2017; Revised 25 August, 2017; Accepted August 30, 2017 Copyright © 2017 Language Research Institute, Sejong University Journal of Universal Language is an Open Access Journal.
