Women's Kookaburra Cup Grand Final PROGRAM Detail First CTPL Women’s Kookaburra Cup Grand Final 2018/19 v Blundstone Arena 23 February 2019 Umpires: Craig Seabourne & David Matthews Kookaburra Cup Wrap Up In Round 1 action, University took on Lindisfarne with the hosts setting a staggering first wicket partnership of 400 runs. Openers Day (182 not out) and Moloney (145 not out) continued their solid partnership formed from the previous week, striking to all parts of the ground and whilst doing so setting an imposing 401 for Lindisfarne to get. Lindisfarne lost wickets early and could never recover, being all out for 61 off 24 overs. At Queenborough Oval, Kingborough were sent in by SHSB with the visitors scoring 26 runs before losing B. Hepburn (7) off the bowling of opener Hartley. Hartley continued to bowl well reaching figures of 3-14 off her 8 overs. Dodd was also the pick of the bowlers claiming 4-20 off her 8 overs. Kingborough survived the 40 overs and gave SHSB 129 runs to win. SHSB lost 3 early wickets but Green (38) and Assmann (11) steadied the ship to build a 40 run partnership before Assmann fell to Harrison who ended with figures of 3-7. SHSB’s tail end couldn’t survive with the home side being all out for 85. New Town travelled to Kangaroo Bay Oval to take on a Clarence outfit full of confidence from their T20 win in the opening round. New Town batted first, with Mannix-Geeves (25) and Phillips (34) building a solid 69 run partnership before Thompson bowled and ran them both out in quick succession. Mifsud (71) was in sublime touch with the bat, helping the visitors set a target of 220 for the hosts with Thompson the pick of the bowlers picking up 3 wickets. Thompson (105 no) again starred with the bat with help from Fazackerley (37) but the bowling of Mifsud proved the match winner claiming 4-23, helping the visitors win by 3 runs. In Round 2, in Pool A action, University travelled to Kangaroo Bay Oval to take on Clarence with the home side winning the toss and batting first. Thompson again starred with the bat notching up an unbeaten 105, with Clarence posting 7-200 from their 40 overs. Moloney and Scott starred with the ball collecting 2 wickets each. In response, University couldn’t get going with Thompson once again running rampant, claiming figures of 4-5. In the end, University came up 128 runs short. The second game in Pool A saw New Town home to Lindisfarne with the visitors winning the toss and electing to bat first. New Town bowled tight with Lawler (3-10) & Sullivan (3-9) both starring with the ball, restricting Lindisfarne to be all out for 67. In reply, New Town only lost 1 wicket, reaching the total in the 13 over with Phillips remaining 34 not out. In Pool B, Glenorchy were at home to Kingborough. The home side won the toss and sent the visitors into bat. The Kingborough openers started well, putting on a 114 run partnership with Divin (43) & B. Hepburn (49) hitting to all parts before losing 3 wickets in 15 runs. The visitors posted 194 runs before being all out in the 39th over. In reply, the home side lost Wardle (4) early before Burdon (26) and Eaton (11) steadied the ship. In the end, B.Hepburn starred again with the ball collecting figures of 3- 18 and restricting Glenorchy to 80. In the match of the round, North Hobart travelled to Queenborough to take on SHSB. The home side won the toss and sent the visitors in to bat. North Hobart started strong with the openers putting on 32 runs before Purton (9) fell to Hartley. Dodd then rocked the North Hobart middle order collecting 3 wickets leaving the visitors in trouble before Daffara (67) and Langston (33) steadied the ship getting them to 8-155 from the 40 overs. In response, SHSB looked in trouble early losing Green (3) and Dodd (4) before Hall (84no) and Hartley (42) guided the home side to the total within 31 overs. And in Round 3, the final round of the Premier League Women’s Kookaburra Cup was a dramatic one, with some incredible record smashing batting setting the stage for an exciting round of cricket. All eyes now turn to the Grand Final, February 23rd at Blundstone Arena. University retained their spot at the top of Group A, with a convincing win over New Town at University Oval. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, New Town struggled against a fiery University bowling attack, with opener Emily Mifsud (25) and middle order bat Frances Sullivan (22) the only players to post a decent score for the Bucks, to post a final total of all out for 149. Dharshia Srinivas, M Blazely and SK Moloney all starred for University taking two wickets a piece. University chased down the total in less than half of the overs available, Ashley Day smashing 82 from 57 deliveries, and Sasha K Moloney continuing her form with 47 from 29. Clarence claimed maximum points due to Lindisfarne having to forfeit due to unavailability of players, however were unable to pass Uni for a Grand Final berth. In Pool B Kingborough continued their unbeaten streak in the Kookaburra Cup, making a powerful statement about their finals intentions at Kingston Twin Ovals. North Hobart won the toss and chose to bat first, getting to a strong start as opener Stefanie G Daffara knocked a steadfast 38, with the remainder of the top and middle order posting minor scores. However, a bottom order collapse at the hands of some superb bowling by Nikki Carter (4/23) and Lauren J Hepburn 3/23) saw North Hobart all out for 158, unable to bat out their overs. Kingborough came out of the sheds swinging, Emily Divin smashing an unbeaten 70 from 86 to lead the charge. Strong performances from Brooke Hepburn (29) and Bonnie H Davies (23) allowed the home side to chase down the target with over ten overs to spare, guaranteeing them a Grand Final appearance. At KGV Oval, South Hobart/Sandy Bay took down Glenorchy on the back of some sensational batting by Corinne Hall and Beth Dodd, whose unbeaten partnership of 328 proved to be the batting performance of the season thus far. Hall’s 157 from 104 deliveries, and Dodd’s 125 off 99 was a record breaking performance and annihilated any hope of a Glenorchy victory as the Sharks cruised to a massive score of 2/362. Glenorchy faced an uphill battle from the outset, dominant bowling performances by Beth Dodd (3/10) and Linsey Da Costa (3/5) knocking over the home side for 66 off 18 overs.
