Women's Grand Final 2014/15 Clare Street Oval Sunday 22Nd February V Women’s Grand Final 2014/15 v Clare Street Oval Sunday 22nd February Girls U/17 Competition The CTPL Girl’s Competition was introduced in this season with the aim of providing a suita- ble pathway for girls to progress through to the Women’s Premier League. In its inaugural year; Glenorchy, Kingborough, New Town, North Hobart, SHSB and University all fielded teams. Played on synthetic wickets, the competition took place over seven weeks prior to Christmas with the top two teams progressing through to the Grand final that was played as a curtain raiser to a Women’s match at New Town Oval. Unfortunately, wet weather caused the abandonment of two rounds but each team was still able to participate in five matches and at the conclusion of the last round, three teams were tied on four wins. On quotient, Kingborough were unfortunate to miss the final with SHSB topping the ladder and New Town coming in second. In the final, SHSB batted first but were no match for New Town who were crowned premiers (pictured below). The competition will return next year and any girls interested in playing cricket are encour- aged to contact any of the eight premier league clubs or Cricket Tasmania Female Engage- ment Officer, Mia Blignaut at [email protected] or on 6282 0490. Openers Day (182 not out) and Moloney (145 not out) continued their solid partnership formed from the previous week, striking to all parts of the ground and whilst doing so setting an imposing 401 for Lindisfarne to get. Lindisfarne lost wickets early and could never recover, being all out for 61 off 24 overs. At Queenborough Oval, Kingborough were sent in by SHSB with the visitors scoring 26 runs before losing B. Hepburn (7) off the bowling of opener Hartley. Hartley continued to bowl well reaching figures of 3-14 off her 8 overs. Dodd was also the pick of the bowlers claiming 4-20 off her 8 overs. Kingborough survived the 40 overs and gave SHSB 129 runs to win. SHSB lost 3 early wickets but Green (38) and Assmann (11) steadied the ship to build a 40 run partnership before Assmann fell to Harrison who ended with figures of 3-7. SHSB’s tail end couldn’t survive with the home side being all out for 85. New Town travelled to Kangaroo Bay Oval to take on a Clarence outfit full of confidence from their T20 win in the opening round. New Town batted first, with Mannix-Geeves (25) and Phillips (34) building a solid 69 run partnership before Thompson bowled and ran them both out in quick succession.
