Clarence will be contesting their second consecutive Grand Final following last seasons victory over North Hobart, while Lindisfarne return to the showpiece for the first time since 2010-11 in which they defeated the Roos. CT extends the best of luck to all competing players chasing success this weekend. In an exception feat, Kingborough will feature in the 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade and Boy’s U/17 Grand Finals. In 2nd Grade, they will do battle with Lindisfarne who finished the regular season in fourth position. In 3rd Grade, they will take on Brighton who are in just their first season in the Premier League, and in the Under 17 Boy’s, the Knights will again take on Clarence in a rematch of last seasons final. Those who walk away as premiers this weekend will be joining those who have already claimed silverware this season. North Hobart claimed both the 1st Grade Twenty20 and Women’s Twenty20 titles with the club also featuring in the inaugural Fox Cricket National Twenty20 Championships in Adelaide. South Hobart Sandy Bay added a fifth Kookaburra Cup premiership to their name defeating Lindisfarne in emphatic fashion at Blundstone Arena. The Women’s Kookaburra Cup was back for it’s second season, with Kingborough claiming victory defeating University also at Blundstone Arena. The 40 and Over Grand Final was also contested between Kingborough and University with the Knights running out winners. The Knights also tasted success in the Boy’s U/15 One-Day grand Final defeating the Bucks. The future is certainly bright at New Town with the Bucks claiming the Boy’s U/15 Twenty20 title for the second year running as well as securing victory in the Girls U/17 Twenty20 Grand Final. For the first time since 2011/12, a back-to-back Rodwell Medalist was crowned with Harry Allanby winning the coveted award. Allanby enjoyed success with both bat and ball for Clarence and will again lead his side to another grand final. The Fazackerley Medal was won by University’s exciting young top order batsmen Ashley Day for her flurry of runs with the willow. Congratulations also to the umpires appointed to the finals round and all those who have stood in finals throughout the season. The ongoing support cricket receives from the TCUSA is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all coaches, club administrators, volunteers, and parents for the contribution they have again made throughout the season, and to the CTPL Principle Partner Detail First and supporting partners Kookaburra Sport and Lion. CT also thanks the Hobart City Council, Clarence City Council, Glenorchy City Council, Kingborough Council, Brighton Council, University of Tasmania and The Hutchins School for their support through provision of grounds for our competition, and the outstanding curators and ground staff in the preparation of playing venues. The Demons got off to a quick start, however some classy bowling by captain Emma Thompson kept Clarence in the game. Coming off an impressive win in the semi-finals over University, the Roos would have been confident that their batting talent could chase down the required runs. Stefanie Daffara looked strong with the bat for the Demons (31) and while her opening partner Taylah Purton fell for 5, the incoming captain Hannah Short steadied the ship with an impressive 45 as Clarence struggled to take a wicket for ten overs. The breakthrough came when Emma Thompson (2/15) stepped up and led by example, bowling Short and triggering a quick succession of wickets. Melodie Armstrong managed a solid 20 before being run out by Katie Cole, while Belinda Page, Beth Langston, Ella Marsh and Kirstin Palfrey all to make an impact with the bat as the demons finished their 20 overs 6/121. Set a reasonably solid target to chase, Clarence looked in trouble early on losing opener B Grant (2) at the end of the of the third over. Maddison Brooks (15) joined captain Emma Thompson (40) at the crease to pile on the runs, as Thompson backed up her form with the ball to get her side back in the match and with a fighting chance of achieving the required run rate. Some great keeping by Taylah Purton off the bowling of Kirstin Palfrey (1/21) finally broke the partnership as Brooks was dismissed after facing 26 balls, and Thompson was soon to follow with Jayde Davis taking the big wicket. The run rate slowed from there for the Roos, the partnership of Olivia McDonald (20*) and Natalie Pearce (15) looking promising before Beth Langston (1/16) once again stepped up for the Demons, knocking over Pearce and stopping the run chase in it’s tracks. The middle order couldn’t push through the classy bowling of North Hobart as they fell 14 runs short of the required total for victory, their innings concluding 5/108. North Hobart captain Hannah Short was awarded Player of the Final for her 45 runs off 47 balls. 4 CTPL WOMENS GRAND FINAL 2018-19 NORTH HOBART CLARENCE R BF R BF S Daffara b O McDonald 31 24 *E Thompson b J Davis 40 44 +T Purton c O McDonald b M Murray 5 9 +B Grant run out (J Davis) 2 6 *H Short b E Thompson 45 47 M Brooks st T Purton b K Palfrey 15 26 B Page b T Brooks 9 12 O McDonald not out 20 27 M Armstrong run out (K Cole) 20 25 N Pearce b B Langston 15 11 B Langston b E Thompson 0 1 A Plath c H Short b E Marsh 3 5 E Marsh not out 1 1 K Cole not out 0 0 K Palfrey not out 1 1 M Murray B Doyle N Murray J Davis T Brooks K Byers K Wills Extras (nb 0, w 8, b 0, lb 1) 9 Extras (nb 1, w 11, b 1, lb 1) 13 Total 6/121 (cc) Total 5/108 (cc) Overs 20 Overs 20 FOW: 21, 45, 64, 116, 117, 120 FOW: 18, 56, 78, 103, 108 Bowling O M W R Bowling O M W R N Pearce 3 0 0 17 B Langston 4 0 1 16 M Murray 3 0 1 14 E Marsh 3 0 1 13 E Thompson 2 0 2 15 B Page 4 0 0 20 T Brooks 3 0 1 17 J Davis 4 1 1 17 O McDonald 4 0 1 22 K Palfrey 3 0 1 21 K Cole 3 0 0 22 K Byers 2 0 0 19 M Brooks 2 0 0 13 5 KOOKABURRA CUP (MEN’S) GRAND FINAL 2018-19 A man of the match performance by Simon Milenko guided South Hobart Sandy Bay (SHSB) to a comfortable 105-run win over Lindisfarne in the Kookaburra Cup Final. The Lightning started the day with a win with Matt Wilkie calling the toss and electing to bowl first. The opening bowling attack of Nathan Ellis and Tom Briscoe were economical early, restricting the Sharks to just 11 runs from the first 4 overs before Ellis got the breakthrough with the key wicket of Trent Keep for 1. This brought the Sharks captain Sean Willis to the crease and the pair looked good from the onset, hitting 27 runs from 7 overs at a run rate of 4 an over before Wilkie produced a gem of a ball to have Nichols caught behind for 17. This brought the ever reliable Simon Milenko to the crease who took the game by the scruff of the neck, dispatching the Lightning bowlers to all parts of Blundstone Arena. With Willis by his side, the pair added a further 65 runs before off-spinning sensation Jarrod Freeman claimed the crucial wicket of captain Willis for 35, caught by Briscoe.
