He was immediately accepted by the Penske engineering group for his experience and success racing open wheel cars. In addition to his completion of Finish Line Racing, the advice received from Driver Coach Buddy Baker provided a strong foundation for Billy’s development as a valuable member of the Penske Racing organization. Billy’s growth and desire to work hard along with his Photo from Michigan International Speedway website driving ability gave him the much deserved task to do much of the testing and development work for the Car of Tomorrow. USAC Penske’s developmental program included Billy competing in the USAC Silver Crown and USAC Midget Series with Western Speed Racing. Billy piloted the Mobil 1 Silver Crown Car to strong finishes for Western Speed. Among the accomplishments with the team, most notably is the 2006 Turkey Night Grand Prix win in USAC Midget Series at Irwindale Speedway in California. ACRA ReMax Series Most notably, Billy showcased his talent during his ACRA series debut at Michigan International Speedway by qualifying 8th and having a remarkable 2nd place finish in the Kodak sponsored car. Billy also piloted the Penske Photo from Motorsport.com website South ACRA car to 15th for his debut at Nashville. Car of Tomorrow As the Developmental Driver for Penske Racing, Billy was an integral part of NASCAR’s Car of Tomorrow testing program. His ability to quickly understand the importance of the team’s needs for sound test driving and development projects proved his versatility. NINE RACING INC. In 2010 Billy’s career continued to prosper beginning with his opportunity to join the prominent Nine Racing Team whom started the careers of many drivers including NASCAR’s Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, and Kasey Kahne. Billy raced for the Nine Racing team at the O’Reilly’s Raceway Park for the Night Before the 500 and had a strong 6th place finish. Steve Lewis recognized Billy Wease’s talent and continued to have Billy work with the team throughout the season. Mentee & Mentor While working with the Nine Racing team, Billy embraced the mentorship from open-wheel standout Dave Steele and experienced Chief Mechanic Glenn Martin, whom worked with likes of J.J. Yeley and Ricky Stenhouse. Billy had gained a lot of experience working with the team at the shop and at many of the USAC National Midget races including the Milwaukee Mile. However in 2011 Billy’s role changed and he continued to grow and diversify his racing career when Steve Lewis signed him to renowned Nine Racing team as a Driver Coach. Billy’s experience, understanding, and communication played an integral role in leading his driver to a 2011 championship for the Nine Racing team. 2013 & 2014 SEASON The 2013 season started strong for Billy with a return to the famous Chili Bowl Nationals indoor midget race with a strong 9th place finish among 280+ drivers. The televised event for Chili Bowl brought forth opportunity and strong networking leads. The remainder of the 2013 season looked very promising for Billy as he finished 2nd in the Montpelier Midget Championship as well as competed in various USAC and sprint races. The 2014 season started with another strong showing at the Chili Bowl that locked in a ride for 2015 event. The racing season schedule will focus on Little 500 as well as pavement & dirt sprint and midget events throughout the country.
