  • Governors' Report 2013
Donemana Primary School Governors’ Report 2013 - 2014 Foreword It gives me great pleasure to present to you the 2013/2014 Board of Gover- nors’ report for Donemana Primary School. You will be able to clearly see from the Calendar of Events and reports just how busy and varied a school year it has been for all of the pupils in our school. As a teacher myself, I have found it very impressive to note the huge opportunities and examples of good practice that are clearly evident in school. In the short time that I have been involved with Donemana Primary School, I have been very impressed with the leadership provided by our Principal, Mrs Hay, and the hard work, motivation, commitment and teamwork shown by all members of staff within school. There is a very positive, warm atmosphere and ethos within Donemana Primary, which would be the envy of many schools. We are indebted and very fortunate to have such a gifted and committed teaching and support staff entrusted with the educational and personal devel- opment of our young people. It is well known that the most successful schools work in partnership with the parents of their children. I would encourage all of you to get as involved as you can be with the work of the school because education does work. As par- ents, we are our child’s first teacher and have a vital role to play. With your support, your child can achieve in education and improve their life chances. I would have no doubt that by working in partnership your child can be the best they can be.

2009 Air Quality Updating and Screening Assessment for Strabane District Council In fulfillment of Part III of the Environment (Northern Ireland) Order 2002 Local Air Quality Management November 2009 Local Alan Haire, Senior Environmental Authority Health Officer Officer Department Environmental Health Department Address Strabane District Council, 47 Derry Road, Strabane, Co Tyrone, BT828DY Telephone 02871381311 e-mail [email protected] Report SDC/AQ/USA/2009 Reference number Date November 2009 i Executive Summary The Air Quality Strategy for England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland provides a framework for air quality control through air quality management and air quality standards. These and other air quality standards and their objectives have been enacted through the Air Quality Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003 in Northern Ireland. The Environment (Northern Ireland) Order 2002 requires District Councils to undertake air quality reviews and assessments. In areas where the air quality objectives are not anticipated to be met by the specified dates, District Councils are required to establish Air Quality Management Areas as a means to improve air quality. In previous rounds of the review and assessment process Strabane District Council declared 3 air quality management areas affecting Strabane, Newtownstewart and Castlederg in relation to exceedences of the air quality objectives for particles (PM10). All three AQMA’s remain in force and have been supplemented by the declaration of 3 overlying smoke control areas in order to control domestic emissions from solid fuel combustion. This report provides an update as to the prevailing conditions within the Strabane District Council area and identifies any relevant changes to the air quality across the district.

The increase in the cost of living and the increased prices which the farmers was getting for his produce had been mainly instrumental in bringing about increased wages. The wages however are still very low. The usual daily wage current in 1913 were for men 2s to 3s 6d, for women 1s 6d to 3s. RESERVES CALLED UP IMMEDIATELY At the start of WW1 58,000 Irishmen were already enlisted in the British Regular Army or Navy – 21,000 serving regular soldiers, 18,000 reservists, 12,000 in the Special Reserve, 5,000 Naval ratings and 2,000 officers.
