The brief comment on the consumer price observation and index calculation methodology in the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia

With the purpose of calculation of consumer price indexes in the Republic of Armenia, in Yerevan city and 10 marzes of the republic the monthly observation of consumer prices (tariffs) is conducted according to the determined methodology.

In order to calculate the RA CPI, the price observations are conducted in the following settlements:

The CPI basket for the calculation of Consumer price index includes 450 good-service (about 8000 product (service) representative).

The following order for the prices observation and indexes calculation is determined: .  the prices (tariffs) observation for each product (service) in the surveyed towns is implemented in the pre-selected 6-12 basic trade and service organizations,  basic objects of the price observation are grouped into 3 conventional groups and in the each group of the basic objects the price observation is conducted once per the given month(at 1, 10 or 20 of each month and the nearly days) excluding fresh fruits, vegetables, fuel (petrol, diesel fuel), the price observation of which in all basic objects is conducted 3 times per month (at 1, 10 and 20 of each month and the nearly days),  the selection of representatives product (service) for price observation is done taking into account the level of their saturation and consumption in the consumer market, actuality, representativeness and etc. specifying their technical characteristics, measurement unit and other necessary features,  the calculation of the summary consumer index is implemented based on price information database by marzes and the republic according to the "Classification Of Individual Consumption by Purpose" (COICOP) 12 sections (2 digit classification), 44 groups (3 digits classification), 94 classes (4 digits classification ) and 190 subclasses (5 digits classification),  The CPI calculation is done by Laspeyres modified formula.
