The purpose of this w3rNshop on"The Growth of Southeast Asian Universities: Expansion versus Consolidation" was to bring administrators and educators as well as government officials together to discuss the problems of rapid expansion of institutions of higher education, to discuss the selective higher education approach and the mass higher educe tion approach in the Southeast Asian economic and social contexts, and to explore a concept of "consolidation'' as an alternative in higher education development in Southeast A.3today. Participants from eight Southeast Asian countries, namely, Indonesia, the Khmer Republic, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines, as well as representatives of ASAIHL, the F ird Foundation, the Higher Education Advisory Council of Malaysia, IAU, IDRC, 11E, SEAMES, the National Education Commis. ion and University Development Commission of Thailand were present in Chiang Mai, Thailand for these deliberations. Inthis report of the proceedi ,gs of the workshop, the discussion of each session has riot been included as in previous reports of R I HED workshop proceedings. AMWAY TAPINGKAC DIRECTOR, RIHED On behalf of the Regional Institute cf Higher Education and Development, may I extend my wariner welcome and appreciation to you tor your presence atthe opening ceremony ofthe Regional Workshop on "The Growth of Southeast Asian Universities: Expansion versus Consolidation." This Institute, which is an intergovernmental organization in the Southeast Asian region, is charged with duties to stimulate and facilitate cooperation among universities and go, ;ems of the countries ;n Southeast Asia, and to enhance the contributit, of higher education to the social and economic development of the countries in the region and of the region as a whole. To achieve such objectives, RIHED, among many other activities and programmes, sponsors workshops and seminars, uoth on the national and the regional levels.In bringing. together adrninistrator,; and scholars involvedin the planning and operation of institutions of higher education and those in government nencias responsible for decisions affecting higher education development, itis hoped that serious and meaningful discussion on problum of development will take place, Furthermore, itis expected that insights into difficult problems may be gained and certain solutions found. ,n the past three years and a half of its existence, the Regional Institute of Higher Education and Development has sponsored regional workshops in Singapore and Malaysia, and has held national seminars in the Khmer Republic, Thailand, the Republic of ViAnam, and Malaysia. 'this workshop is the first R.gional workshop to be held in Thailand. Taking the iRgion as a wnolethe majority of institutions of higher education in Southeast Asia were founded after the Second World War, lo a large extent, th.s phenomenon of rapid expansion of higher eaucation was the result of political independence, of a need to meet high-level manrower for public offices and industr;as. This rapid development and expansion is also a result of rising expectw,ions in this changing world and the need forore education to enhance human understanding and sensitivity in a more complex world. We first present the rich linguistic and biological diversity of this region, which is of significant interest in typological and theoretical linguistics and language documentation. We then discuss certain central educational issues in relation to human resources, infrastructures, and institutional support, critical for high quality research and documentation. We argue that the issues are multidimensional and complex across all levels, posing sociocultural challenges in capacity-building programs. Finally, we reflect on the significance of the participation oflocal fieldworkers and communities and their contextual training. 1. Introduction In this paper, we reflect on linguistic fieldwork and language documentation in Eastern Indonesia. By “Eastern Indonesia,” we mean the region that stretches from Nusa Tenggara to Papua,1 including Nusa Tenggara Timur, Sulawesi, and Maluku. This region is linguistically one of the most diverse regions in the world interms of the number of unrelated languages and their structural properties, further discussed in the next section. Universities have an important role towards students in building professional competence through the fulfillment of periodic updated learning curricula. This study aims to gather information related to the number of universities, the number of relevant courses, the number of undergraduate and graduate programs, the application of courses that join with other sciences, teaching methodologies, publications in the internal journals of tertiary institutions, activities involving college students, organizations or student associations, website availability, publication of sustainability reports, and participation of environmental assessment at universities in Indonesia included in the QS World University Ranking 2019. This research is a qualitative research with a case study approach. The study population is all universities in Indonesia included in the QS World University Ranking 2019. The research results obtained were 44.44% of the universities included in the QS World Rankings University 2019 rank had integrated courses related to environmental accounting and reporting in the education curriculum at the level proportion of 1.24%. 33.33% of universities apply study programs that are still relevant to the aspects of sustainability and the environment in their educational curriculum. All universities have courses outside the concepts of environmental accounting and reporting that combine with other sciences. All universities apply teaching methods in the classroom. The University has an average of 5 publications per year of research related to environmental accounting and reporting. The university still has a sufficient number of activities of 5-7 activities involving students related to environmental sustainability.

This research was an observational case- control study conducted by Prof. dr. R. D. Kandou Hospital, Manado, from August to October 2016. In total, there were 220 patients included. The sampling used a simple random sampling method and the data obtained were analyzed by chi-squared test. According to the results, hypertension, smoking, and behavioral type were connected to cases of CHD. The correlation degree showed that the respondents suffering hypertension were 5.70 times more likely to suffer CHD, the smoking respondents were 2.25 times more likely to experience, and behavior type A respondents were 2.96 times more likely to suffer CHD. Hypertension, smoking, and behavioral type are linked with CHD, so there should be some promotion and preventive actions from the health governmental institution to society, especially aimed at adults, about the quality of life enhancement by healthy behavior and avoiding CHD risk factors.

    The Students’ Perceptions toward Ramkhamhaeng University Blended Distance Learning Narat Wattanapanit Ramkhamhaeng University [email protected] Abstract This qualitative research paper aimed to investigate graduate students’ perceptions regarding Ramkhamhaeng University’s blended learning practices which included face-to-face, eLearning, as well as other tools in the distance teaching and learning process. Focus group interviews were conducted with graduate students in regional campuses where distance learning was organized. Results revealed that most students prefer distance learning with blended tools. They perceived that blended learning led to social equalization, interactivity, flexibility, dynamic materials, interesting presentation, and motivation to the society and the students. Key word: blended learning, e-Learning, Thai culture, distance learning, face-to-face learning Introduction The Information Technology (IT) has a strategic impact upon organizations and the society [1]. Traditional long distance learning was performed through traditional media such as mail, radio, television broadcasting, and etc. Nowadays, class content can be delivered through the internet system which creates a new form of distance learning. It was estimated that at least 80 percent of business schools in the US now offers online program for students [2]. The internet has been adopted by people around the world. North America had the highest internet penetration rate as a percentage of population at 78.6% followed by Oceania/Australia at 67.6%, Europe at 63.2%, Latin America/Caribbean at 42.9%, Middle East 40.2%, Asia at 27.5% and Africa at 15.6% [3]. Although the penetration percentage in Asia was on the low side, Asia had the largest number of population who used the internet with 1,076.7m users or about 4 times more than North America (273.8m).
